The sermon on the mount to me sounds like it is all law. Jesus ministered under Moses law 👏🏼 not to say Jesus wasn't full of grace and truth. But grace as a message did not take effect until the cross. And then our beloved Paul gives us the full grace of God in a new birth 🙏🏼 without Paul the body of Christ would know they are in Christ. Paul gives us the in Christ gospel he calls my gospel. Believer's struggle trying to make a gospel out of the 66 books of the bible.

The sermon on the mount is Jesus showing the way of salvation. Here is the standard of righteousness, “ Be perfect as your Father in heaven is perfect “. The righteousness we need to stand face to face with God is the righteousness of God Himself! We don’t have it! The righteousness of the Pharisees wasn’t enough! But one is blessed if they recognize that! They know that they are poor in spirit, they mourn over their sins, they hunger for the righteousness that they lack. Etc. Then they ask, seek and knock. The only true God draws then to Christ Jesus and there they find a righteousness that is by faith. Not an earned righteousness, a freely given righteousness by faith in Jesus. Like Abraham who had righteousness credited to him because he believed! When faith comes new birth comes by the Holy Spirit and He helps us to do what pleases our Heavenly Father. We were powerless before but now we have power to say “No” to worldly lusts and live a life pleasing to God through our Lord Jesus Christ.
