Kenopsia is a dark ambient concept album based on dreams and the difficulty to sleep.

    "Autumn" honestly fit very well with the bus ride I was taking while listening to this. Very gray day in the American Midwest. "Dog" feels like a haunted copy of Stardew Valley. "Fireplace", ironically, felt very cold. In "Pines", each fully-pronounced keystroke on the piano felt like a footstep. The reverberations at the end felt like a very mild version of the Hell Sirens from EATEOT. "Sundown" seems to have three main forces: the piano, the synth, and the white noise. The actual sundown is the piano, whereas the white noise is the forest and the synth is the night encroaching on the cabin. There is an underlying stress to this piece. "Lunar" has the underlying stress from before, but is a lot calmer than "Sundown". (It is possible, though, that the stress of me misplacing my umbrella during my bus ride affected my listening experience.)

    I'm rewatching Twin Peaks lately and this is giving me BIG "there's always music in the air" woods vibes. Let's face it, ambient is a difficult genre. You're either boring and generic (90% of the genre) or you're VERY good at it, so that people can actually remember your stuff. Somehow you managed to make pads not sound generic and most importantly you really managed to get that "woods" feeling. I really like this! Edit: I have no idea who you are, my youtube always gives me a lot of random music with very few views but I'm definitely gonna hear your stuff from now on.

    "empty space" definitely feels like the opening track for an album like this. It has a haunting, somewhat cold atmosphere to it and it pronounces itself quite well. "longing for the night to end" is a bit warmer, but also much fuzzier. I could draw a comparison to the end of "J1- Stage 4 Post-Awareness Confusions" from EATEOT. I think that really sums up what I imagine this track representing apart from the obvious- confusion. "equinox" starts off with a somewhat distant loop that continues throughout the entire track. The sound likes to bounce between the ears; I'm not sure if this is just a quirk of my earbuds, if I'm just built like that, or if it was intentional. Either way, it has a nice effect. Some static cuts in and out a couple minutes into the track- given the name of the track, it could be wind in some nearby trees. Additionally, some distant siren-like sounds can be heard. Six and a half minutes into the track, things get a bit muted and fuzzy, representing the end of that particular illusion. "after dusk" starts off a bit clearer than the end of "equinox". While I can tell it's looping if I pay close enough attention, it doesn't feel like it's looping. It's a winding path, more than anything, and nighttime is generally a bad time to be on such a path. I almost feel like this is the track that accompanies when I'm awake late at night and still walking around my house. "eyes in the wall" continues naturally from "after dusk", and continues the sentiment I described at the end of that description. These two songs seem like paranoia fuel. Quite likely that this song is about a nightmare. Given the background ambience, it's probably one that induces sickness. The second half of the track, with its more muted repetition of the foreground ambience, allowing the sick stuff to take the stage, feels quite a bit sad. "under the stars" transitions cleanly from "eyes in the wall", and seems a bit simple for the first minute or so. Things get a bit spacey at times, but the piano in the foreground remains. A nagging drone slowly overtakes it, though. "a sudden silence", is not, in fact, silence. It's quite eerie, however, just like actual silence. The final couple seconds feel like tinnitus. "limbo" has some howling wind at the start; imagined screams of the damned, perhaps? The track is primarily static and drone at the start, making it indiscernible. A third of the way through the track, you can hear some muffled speech which outlasts the earlier static. Quite possibly nonsense, of course. There's absolutely some night terrors present in this track. Two thirds of the way through, a dog barks. But was it real? "what lies in the corner" opens with some strings in a rhythm not unlike a clock. The clock is definitely broken, and on repeat. Synths pervade pretty quickly, punctuating some of the fears present in whomever is having these dreams. Something is present that shouldn't be there, and it's making the POV acutely aware of all of the noise around them, even if said noise doesn't exist. "the floor is breathing" is cold and oppressive. I could hear ticking in my left ear for much of this track- in fact, it sounds like card-shuffling for Google solitaire. The ticking becomes more ubiquitous with time. In my right ear, a piano, as before. Felt like I was starting to go insane from this one track. But of course, this single-experience contrast that induces insanity is the point.

    A1 is a pretty decent opening, sets the mood fairly well. Sunrise. A2 appears to use A1 as a leitmotif, and the moans in the background add to the feeling of grim anticipation that pervades every nursing home. Adult relatives dropping off groceries, residents talking with each other, etc. Mid-to-late morning. A3's focus on the piano adds a harrowing feel to the child's voice in the background. Little kids are visiting the resident- don't scare the little ones. Early afternoon. A4 will jumpscare you if you're not prepared. Sounds of the radio(or possibly a television) are the backbone of this track, allowing one to see the dread present in every octogenarian who keeps up with the times. Late afternoon. B1 feels relatively hollow after A4. The drums in the background add to the viewer's unease as some mild screeching beckons them to follow, the same way Death beckons. Early evening. B2's title reminds me of Pink Floyd's "The Wall"- more specifically, the line from the song "Hey You": "And the worms ate into his brain". The track itself, however, is quite unlike Pink Floyd, and is, of course, more similar to the Caretaker. The use of several discordant drones and some instruments displays confusion and desolation. Late evening. B3 is dampened, reminiscent of a relative who hasn't long to live. My twice-paternal great grandmother was happy to see me but a week before Christmas of 2018- she was always happy to see me. I could tell something was off when she didn't immediately recognize my face(more specifically, as something distinct from that of my cousin's), though. Midnight. The cover gaining more glitchy static as the album goes on is a nice touch adding to the feeling of decay.

      Thanks for listening! Glad it managed to tell the story I wanted to tell, and glad you thought it was good :D As for some things you pointed out, A4 actually has some television broadcasts from when Brazilian terrorists attacked the National Congress. Was both a turning point to the patient watching it as well as a way for me to criticize that gnarly event. And about B2s title, you were absolutely right, it is a reference to PFs "Hey You". Both a reference to my favorite band as well as a metaphor for the aisle the nurse was currently working at that time of day. Thank you so much for listening, have an excellent day :3

    • @allformer
      @allformer 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I somewhat agree with you and I think you have a good point. I too prefer the old, one-level-only backrooms endless maze. Games like The Complex make it clear that just wandering around can be scary. However, I think monsters, if used well, can be scary too. Imo, Kane's Backrooms show that, even though Backrooms games try to mimic it and end up not being as scary. Originally, I was going to have only the slow downed jazz and ambience as the vid, to try and fit this theme. But as I went on, it became harder to transmit the liminal feel and it just ended up as a 3 min loop of a song. So I decided to put the ending as a fun nod to Kane, as well as trying to challenge myself to make an ARG. Plus, I also like the wikidot and the SCP-esque feel it has

    The album poses a very interesting question: what would society say in its final moments? A1, A2, and A3 are, collectively, the foreword of the album, setting the tone for the rest of it. Melancholy pervades A1(which incorporates a minor key and the dies irae) and A3(which emphasizes its percussion), while somewhat distant brass jazz adds to the feeling of loss in A2. A4 starts a bit more cleanly. It is noticeably longer and calmer than what came before. The air of hopelessness has already taken hold. A5, however, chimes in. You would expect that something straight from the artist would contain some semblance of hope- but you would be sorely disappointed. A5 is a beautiful turning point- nothing is upbeat after this track. B1 and B2 both have grinding openings. Both of them become less painful to hear after some time, however, the calm only exists because not much else remains. B3, another long track, is an interesting case. We are in the final moments before the end. What do people do? They talk to each other. Conversation- unintelligible to, at the very least, a native English speaker- is omnipresent. The final minute of the track is a lot more active- almost taunting you for not being able to hear what's being said. B4 finishes what B3 started- the conversation remains, but it's easier to hear(but not listen to) it due to the music being quieter. Society is gone now. All that remains are what the people think. B5 sounds lifeless, with a lone voice crying out into the darkness. There is very little music- in fact, it cuts out before the voice. My analysis on this one isn't as thorough as my analysis of SIFATISM- I'll likely give another listen later.

    This was amazing. It simply hits too hard-the intrusive thoughts, the doubt, the depression, the dissonance, everything - I listened to it all, all three hours, in one go, and i can't quite put into words how close home it hit, but it was an utterly unique experience. While listening, I wrote a poem, so I guess here it is. Hope you enjoy. "Dancing in Dissonance" When my very existence Is fraught with despair, Is met with resistance, And onlookers' glare When my rights to a life They debate in a court, They sow conflict and strife, Basic facts they distort, And though I fail to heal, And my life is not free, There's still somewhere I feel As though I am still me. And so, I will waltz, As if I never knew Those whose prophets are false And whose gods are untrue, Those whose lies fail to reach me, Whose malice and hate, Whose comments so curtly Attempt to irate… They don't work! I am dancing! I hear nought but the song! So compelling, entrancing, In which I sing along, I glide down like a bird Through eternal abyss Where existence is blurred Into dark, void-borne bliss And though I fail to heal, And my life is not free, There's still somewhere I feel As though I am still me. And the dissonant sounds Embraced, understood, Like no human in life Neither wanted nor could, As my thoughts claw their way Through my flesh and my skin And they tear out my bones And replace what's within, i sink lower, submerge in the deep-seated pain as red shadows surround me and drive me insane there was never a way there was never a chance i could live without fear, i could live as myself, i could live. i could live? i'm still breathing? A melody slowly emerges Softly in, Softly out, I repeat. Yes, things won't be the same, But my fate is not sealed, And my flickering flame, While still fragile, has healed. Is there somewhere still left Where I can still be, Is there somewhere I'll feel As though I am still me? I look up and around At the sunrise-red sky, As the rose-red surrounds, In relief, now, I cry. There are lows, there are highs But I'll live, I'll survive, Though my hopes may be lies, I will stay here, alive.
