Oh my god! Its not a domestic! Chrysler (hence Jeep) is owned by Fiat. Those Cherokees are Alfa Romeos. And the Italians have never EVER built a reliable car. They just don't.
@RobertWill-uq3iv I think they are now owned by Stellantis, probably even worse than Fiat! Sad, really. Jeep used to be good.
Was you 4wd light with exclamation point flashing or just on?
@lisaromeo7284 If my memory serves me correctly, the light originally flashed intermittently. Then, it eventually stayed on full time.
@deslauriersadventures we have a lot of snow, went to put it in 4wd and the light came on, flashing with the exclamation point. Traction control comes on (even if I have it off). Won't engage into 4wd, lose power, and acts like I don't have front wheel drive. Eventually the lights go away, but not right away. Very frustrating. TH-cam videos say check wiring, the main switch to engage 4wd, wheel bearing, wheel bearing sensor.
all domestic cars aren't great unless you are a "car guy" and knows your way around the inside out of the car.
That was crap.
Just bought the set for my 09 Honda civic that I drive to a 40min job. Hopefully they workout.
@jcleonardo538 I'm confident that they will. I put them on my parents' Honda CR-V, and they love them.
Is your throttle valve cable out of adjustment? Seems to be shifting early.
Definitely garrantied to piss you off
As I suspected, 99% sure that the PTU actuator failed because of the internal motor that moves the forks to engage 4H and 4L... The dealer will aways replace the whole PTU set. If you weren't covered by warranty, other options would be available.
@Pombinhoecia my Cherokee is only a latitude, so there isn't a 4L option. How it was explained to me is that the Jeep is in front wheel drive, and when the front tires lose traction, the ptu transfers power to the rear, making it 4wd. I do have snow, mud, and sport selections for the 4wd, but again, no 4L. I come from the transfer case days where you had an actual stick that you moved to engage 4wd. 2H, 4H, neutral, then 4L. I think you're right, though, about the fork. I've never split a ptu in half to see how it works.
@@deslauriersadventures yes, even single speed PTU has actuator and that fork to engage 4H when the terrain demands for it
@Pombinhoecia that makes sense. I read that some jeeps with bad PTU's have actually rolled away while in park. Maybe that fork has something to do with it?
@@deslauriersadventures nope, these are cases of splines wearing off and losing grip.
Hey mate, rod here from Australia. I have a 21 model grand cherokee.. got the same light on dash, aswel as the traction control & Fca lights on dash.. dealer can't get me in till next month.. car hasn't been running the same since. When it happened I was away on holidays so had no choice to keep driving it.. just wondering if you keep driving it will it damage other components, I'm not worried as the cars still well within warranty.
Most likely you PTU actuator has failed. If you are not covered by warranty, find a good car shop with some background on these jeeps. Replace the actuator is not the worse part, the problem is the labor to take the PTU apart though
How much to fix it
@feat.shanika It was a recall item, so there was no cost to me. 👍
You talked to.much and didn't said was the problem was.
@ConfusedOrca-ih8uy That's true, I do talk too much. Also, in this video, I didn't know what the issue was. I do cover it in a separate video. 👍
Our 2021 with 36000 miles has the warning light and is currently at the dealership. Bad PTU , none in the supply chain, on back order with no ETA for the part. No loaner, and I am without a car. Not happy! If the dealership doesn't produce a car by the end of the weekend this is going to get real ugly, real quick. 1st and last Jeep I'll ever buy.
@jamess3532 I had to wait 3 weeks for the PTU to show up at the dealership, then another week to get it scheduled for installation. I'm with you, though! I was a HUGE, Jeep guy before, but I'm not happy with this one. I hope everything works out with you!
@@deslauriersadventures Did you continue to drive the Jeep while waiting on the part?
@jamess3532 Yes. The dealership gave the green light to drive it while waiting for parts.
@@deslauriersadventuresshit I had that light on since I bought the car 8-9 months ago and haven’t gotten it looked at and put another 14k miles on it 😭.
How do you think with TRQ and Power stop?
That engine sounds great. I’d swap in a manual 6 speed transmission if it was mine.
@@charlesrodriguez7984 swapping in a manual would be an awesome project!
@@deslauriersadventuresdefinitely
@@deslauriersadventuresmaybe when im older I’ll probably buy one for myself. I’d definitely have to teach myself manual since I’ve only driven automatic cars.
I have one with 101k mi. The 3.2l seems to have alot of oil blow-by. Just did the oil cooler and spark plugs on her and the whole upper manifold was coated in oil. Thought there was a problem with the pvc valve so I replaced it and cleaned the manifold. Drove about 50 mi took it apart and still coated in oil. I guess it’s just a pentastar thing 🤷♂️
Same thing happened to me. Had to make a 500 mile trip so I pulled the fuse to the PTU power transfer unit (fuse 10)so the dinging wouldn't drive me crazy. I Googled the problem and the fuse idea came from someone who also dealt with this problem. Dealership says the PTU module is bad. One is on order and under warranty...thankfully! $1400 item.
I have a 96 MGM, and 2nd gear doesn’t seem to work, I’m thinking of changing the solenoid, I’m hoping it solves my issue
It's an inexpensive place to start. How does the transmission fluid look and smell?
Awesome video I might get one and this gave me an idea of its abilities thank you! I would recommend some falken at4 wild peaks and you should be a fair bit better off
Got a Toyota lift with that on it at work. Doesn't do a thing.
Never seen that feature before, nice feature and a good video!
Speaking as a professional mechanic of some 40 years experience, whose last job was repairing forklifts...... .....how long did it take you to figure that out? Don't you think that understanding the function of ALL of the controls should have been your FIRST PRIORITY?!? 🤨🙄😑🤦
Shit you know how it goes during forklift training 😂
It took 80 years to figure it out..... it's definitely not covered in any forklift training course that I've taken part in.
@@deslauriersadventures the training course is generic training. Someone should have gone over all the functions of your specific lift during driving training. The first time I drove a piggy back the warehouse supervisor had to go over the differences in the controlls before they let me drive it.
😀
I wish more guys would use it rather than drag their forks over the deck of my trailer.
A lot of my shipments come via owner operator tractor trailers. Having said that, I make an effort not to drag items on the deck and pay especially close attention to how close I am to the side so my mast won't hit the sides. A lot of drivers take pride in their setup, so I try to respect that. Thank you for your services! Drivers, in my opinion, are underappreciated.
@@deslauriersadventures Why are drivers underappreciated?
Very long video
My man thinks he is the Christopher Columbus of fork lifts he discovered the auto fork level button.. We need to name a new Holiday to him lol..... Just kidding this feature is very handy
Super handy, I use this at work all the time! Problem is nothing we drive on is level, the building or the parking lot😂 So it works wonders as a way to get a point of reference in the dark while unloading a flat bed or stacking sheetrock way the hell over your head 👍
I valet'd one of these when they first came out in 1984. I was a senior in HS. It was a surreal experience.
Looks like you cut more than 1 wire
I added extensions to both sides of the 1 wire I cut. That's probably why it looks that way.
had a c4 but my problem was i bought one with the 4+3 nash unit in it....that tranny was a HUNK OF SHIT....but the rest of the car was pretty nice
i love your videos very nice
ai am told by a battery guy that when a battery is at 12 volts that it is empty but below that it is getting damaged.
Get yourself a battery tester. You can see the health of your battery. Draining the battery that low can cause serious damage and void any warranty you may have. GL
How boring
Hi my friend please where is the put located ? Is it in transmission or in the 4wd thanks
I can still drive it right
I did. Probably wouldn't drive it for a super long time, though. Some of the symptoms of a bad PTU are not just the 4wd/awd not working, but the Jeep can actually go into neutral and roll away. That's what I've read anyway.
I had one of these. The Captain Video dash looked great at night, sometimes hard to read in bright sunlight. As I remember, you hafta switch between oil pressure/temp gauges, and/or fuel/voltmeter; but not all four at the same time. As they all do , it eventually faded and the readouts croak. After some getting used to, I kinda liked the dash, but would prefer analog gauges.
Did you get it fix my jeep light turn on svc 4wd
Yes. It ended up being the PTU.
@@deslauriersadventureshow much was the PTU? We have a 2019 Trailhawk just hit 39000 miles and the svc 4wd light just started to come on and off…
@LIOverdrive Mine was covered by warranty. I would recommend having the dealership diagnose it, and then they would tell you if it's covered by warranty/recall.
We’re out of warranty. I’ll probably end up doing it myself after they diagnose…
@LIOverdrive hopefully it's a recall unit. From what I understand, it's a fairly big project.
Trq are ok to good enough i used them before and for the price are good. But i put the power stops z36 on my Durango just over 3 years ago and I stop harder than normal people. Right now my Rotors look like I just put them on and my pads have almost 70% left. But im thinking i have to take them apart to re grease the caliper pins. Before i have any issues. I paid $220 for the front rotors and pads for the 01 r/t durango 5.9. It's the best brake investment iv ever made. Trqs are still pretty good for the price.
My 5.3 06 gmc revs way faster than that
super fast transmission
how are they holding up after almost a year of installation a lot of rust? or loss in braking power?
F150s are quicker now lol
Lol, almost everything is quicker. Still feels good driving it. 👌
My stock 85 ran consistent mid 5's and best around 5.2 to 60, stock. At terminal island and also carlsbad (before they closed down) i was running 13.90's stock. Exhaust, Chip, air foil and gears i was running 13.20's pretty consistently. (wish i put an underdrive pulley those made a big difference back then) I ported my own manifold and plenum, little bigger throttle body, by pass coolant line to throttle body, just minor things ran consistent 13.0's. Still have it to this day. Im just sad they make all these kits to drop in LS1,2,3 and LT engines to all models but the early C4's. I saw one setup that was predone.
I use to own an 86 vette it was a great car!
Sloooooow
There will always be a new faster car arriving, 2 tenths faster, 3 mph faster than the old model it replaces. What really matters is how the car makes you feel, is it special, sense of occasion, how it looks, the noise, the feedback when driving. Yes, there are faster cars but hell they are boring to look at, no emotion, dull, sound crap. Driving a C4 is an experience, driving others cars have all the fun engineered out of them. I'd rather be driving an old Vette doing 70mph, than driving a modern car doing 140mph.
You've said it perfectly! Thank you!
Cool!
That's pretty good for its time.
