First Winter Snow of 2025 on the Farm with the Accidental Farmer, Episode 42
First Winter Snow of 2025 as most of the animals experience their first measurable amount of snow combined with frigid temps.
The Nigerian Dward goats in snow are a bit reluctant but quite the opposite of the Sheep who could not be bothered with a few inches of snow as they roam the corrals like it is summertime.
Freezing temps with the barn animals and chickens but all seem fine

how can you be this old and so. willing to throw away all your money. you have animals but don't even know why. 1 year raising goats and sheep. wool? are they a wool producing breed or milking. breed or meat. don't raise an animal unless you know it's purpose and your purpose for raising it. if they are meat producing then raise them and get them to market weight efficienctly and slaughter them. you bought a tractor but most small farms don't need that. just waste of money. stop learning how to farm on TH-cam farming isn't a new knowledge, there's a wealth of knowledge but it's not coming from hipster TH-camrs making homestead and farming channels. it's like farmers retiring and going to the city trying to be investment bankers. I feel empathy for you, but you should just get out now before you lose everything

@@michaelstevens708 thank you for your comment. As for learning on TH-cam, I have to say I have gotten some ideas from them. As for throwing away money, I don’t believe it’s true as I am in a point in my career that I have the means to do mostly what I want Some people like yourself might think it’s foolish but others think it’s a gamble and for me it’s a new experience Many live their lives, wishing they should’ve done things and taking chances for me on the other side will take the chance. What good is living life if you don’t have a story to tell when you’re done. As for the money being spent and possibly with no return, I’m OK with it Thank you for watching. I hope you enjoy.

As someone who has built a fairly large garden over the past 15 years, I can certainly relate to how much time, effort and money are dedicated to such an endeavor and can only imagine what it takes to do this on the scale of several acres of farm land. Hi Ron! Just found your channel. Great content, looks like a wonderful challenge. I wish I had the skills and confidence you have for my little budding farm. My name is Jill and I live in Leominster. Wondering if you get your sheep shorn professionally? If so I may be able to buy some wool come shearing time. I just started quail (they're 8 weeks now). Have 6 chickens now but am hoping to double both the chickens and quail come this spring. In addition to gardening I take care of my 89 year old mother. Oh and I have a full time job in Marlboro, LOL! Am looking to change the name of my channel, was originally to talk about taking care of the elderly, now I talk more about homesteading. I am 74, bought 5 acres of wooded land. I had about 3 acres cleared, built a house, a pole barn, a storage shed and set up my farm. First a vegetable garden then some rabbits. Rabbits are incredibly easy to take care of, provide a small income and give me meat. Next I set up 3 goat paddocks. One big one for the does, a small one for a buck and a wether and a small paddock for the kids. I use portable fencing and turn the goats loose a few days a week to clear underbrush. I also have an eggmobile that I move every 3 days and a portable fence so the chickens can free range. I have no smelly paddocks, i welcome poop because i use it for the garden and my feed cost are cut by allowing the goats to graze and the chickens to scrounge for bugs. My rabbits benefit from the garden and provide excellent fertilizer with their poop. Get your animals to work for you, not against you. Look up Joel Salatin and his farming methods. Good luck

I have a small homestead in the country. I had to learn when you try to just jump in and do everything all at once its way harder then taking a year to learn each thing and acclimating yourself to have to do these things everyday. After a year its way more easy because it becomes routine, then you can add something else the next year. Ive been on my homestead for 3 years. Year one i wanted all the things. By the end of the first year i was burnt out and pretty unhappy. Year two i focused on animal husbandry and building my infrastructure (by hand) . This year i allowed myself to have a small garden. In the summer i dont do much building or repairs unless its unsafe for the animals or they can escape. I make a list of building and repairs that i want to get done for the fall/winter. In the fall and winter i only work on project when the weather is decent. After feb i stop working on project and start seed starting. Everything i add to our homestead i make sure its not going to overwhelm me. I also automated my chicken and turkeys feeders so i dont have to lug heavy feed out every day. I fill up there container twice a month. Now the pigs i havent figured out how to ration feed them but im moving in the direction of a automatic deer feeder. I can leave for 4 days and all the animals would ve automatically feed and watered but not more then that. Also i got in good with my neighbor and he comes and feeds the pigs when we're out of town. I try to remember to pace myself and not take on to much at once. It will get better ☺️
