To be fair the game is unplayable if you’re on higher ping than your opponent. It was unprofessional to leave but they were doomed on 170 ping

high ping in gunfights feels particularly bad and borderline unplayable in this game, overwatch and almost every other game feels so much better on 180+ ping but you cant even control wraith cards on 180. Might just be poorly optimised net code bc its still early development

The real problem here was the system for rating servers makes zero sense. If you are going to rate how willing you are to play on a server you NEED to know where the team you are playing against is located. ie NA might be willing to play a UK server if your opponents are Russian, but not if your opponents are from the UK. (Especially if it's NA West) The tournament organizer should've manually gone through and decided on what were the servers for any and all match-ups instead of trying to automate it poorly. NA not understanding Geography is an odd joke considering both the UK and Spain are roughly the same distance from New York. The real reason there's a big latency difference is that most transatlantic undersea cables are connected to the UK. Which isn't common knowledge if you live in NA because why would you ever need to know that. 3:33 You can even see the EU team thought Spain would be better for NA. 4:32 Seagull is mocking the guy for saying they were saving time? It's 29K souls to 17K, the game is well and truly over. 6:18 Edu is misrepresenting this based on what KP types in discord 8:10 Leaving is bad sportsmanship? I mean there are plenty of games where you don't play out the match once it's unwinnable. Aoe2 as an example, if you don't forfeit once you're obviously losing is bad sportsmanship. So the NA team pointed out that playing in a Spanish server was a waste of time because of how big the latency difference was before it started, got ignored. Then forfeited and quit when it became clear to everyone that they were right and the game was virtually over... AND then Edu spent 10 minutes lecturing them about how they are supposed to make the tournament organizer look good by playing it out??? How does that make sense. The tournament organizer might want things to look like they went smoothly for their credibility in a new and growing scene. But the players also are trying to make a name for themselves in a new and growing scene. And getting absolutely stomped hurts their personal brands and reputation as good players.

I'm an old head gamer, MLG raised my ass, but I'll never understand some of these pro players and especially the aspiring wannabe-pro players who litter ranked in any game. They have zero sense of sportsmanship, they don't know how to communicate, and will cry till sunset for the slightest handicap. I'm convinced they are incapable of having fun. I'm even hesitant to even refer to them as gamers as this point, they're not here to play in any sense of the word. They're here to gamble on their dopamine addiction and will ragequit the moment their receptors aren't firing.

Not sure I get the people shitting on the team for leaving (I presume) to send a message about the unfair server setup. If you have a pro football game and the ref whacks every player on one team in the ankle with a hammer at the start I wouldn’t expect that team to play out the game.

If this vid was meant to be educational, which I assume it was due to the title, it could use a lot of work. So many people talking over each other, I have no idea who is who or what is what and frankly almost no useful information got conveyed. I guess at least one person here was supposed to be a player from the tournament but that’s about all I could make out.

Leaving mid game is bad sportsmanship no matter what, you can give your complaints to the TO after the game is done, then everyone sights would of been set on the poor and outright bad handling of the tournament, by doing this you just made a clown of yourself and put the attention on people mocking you and your region instead. One good thing came off this at the very least, this "Flick" manchild is probably never going to touch any tournament in the very bright future of this game lmao.

If there is one thing to learn from this its that running a tournament with teams playing each other from across the world doesn't work. I don't know how the organizers thought this was a good idea. This is why most online esports tournaments are region specific.

Maybe you make a ping script for the players and ask them to send in the results and choose the server from the results of that choosing from 1 to 5 means there is no absolute 0 meaning the preferences are from 20-100% making the average and delta pretty useless.

The tournament was poorly managed. Simple as that. Moving forward NA should just play in NA and EU should stay in EU. The only thing I didn't think was mature coming from hydranation was calling the TO trash. Leaving a lost game not due to skill, but horrible server location doesn't bother me. Who wants to watch that anyways. It's not even entertaining when that happens.

I agree that it should not have been a problem for the team, and that is the TO’s fault because the team told them this. It is also the nature of making things awesome to reflect and ask oneself what could WE have done better in case this happens again? Do we want to give them another chance to fix it? To be fair the TO should have questioned the choices of 5 across all terrible servers for NA. If your going to act like a sanctioning body, then do so. Changing rules mid tournament, then getting mad because a team leaves pretty dumb ngl.

This is what happens when you hand off tournament organizing aspects to the players. The organizers should have been better prepared and taken matters to into their own hands. Poorly handled in my opinion.
