Thank you for this great demonstration!
How cute. I had to watch carefully to see the couple moving.❤
Thank you for sharing your knowledge and skills. Your videos are appreciated. Do you have a video on how to assembly the correct order for the strike parts on the front of the movement to be installed. Thanks
Glad to help! Do you mean setting the rack and snail to work correctly?
I was going to take mine in for service. All I needed to do was level it! Thank you!
Glad to help out!
Can you tell me what size weights you have? I have the same identical clock. I believe it takes three. Do you have (2) 275g and (1) 320g for the music? Or (3) 320g's? And does it matter what kind of pendulum I put on it? I lost my weights and pendulum in my move.
For a 1 day clock, 320g is generally recommended. For an 8 day clock, 1500g is the general recommendation. There are some exceptions to those, but those will work for the vast majority. Occasionally an 8 day will use a 1600g for the music, but other than that, pretty much all cuckoos use identical weights. All cuckoos use at least two weights (one for the time and one for the cuckoos). If it has music/dancers/water wheel/etc., it will have a third weight to run that.
very helpful! what repair is likely needed if the pendulum hanger comes off the wire?
@@ardeliardeliardeli the hanger should be able to be reinstalled on the wire if the wire is not broken.
I just got a clock from a visit to the Black Forest. Is there a way to loop the chains around so that my dogs don't bump around or get tangled in them? Thanks.
@@KelliMeck-fx6rf you can hook the rings on the hooks to lift them a little bit, but this does also create a new loop that could be snagged.
I did this and now my hour hand wont’t move. Even manually. It won’t cuckoo either. This did not work for me. Now it wont work at all.
@@sudzy7603 the hour hand shouldn’t be able to move manually - it should only move as you move the minute hand. If the hour hand does move when you push on it, it will most likely come loose from the shaft and you’ll have to push it back on (I have another video on that if you need it). Will the minute hand move either direction?
Yes the minute hand moves in both directions.
@@sudzy7603 it could be that the minute hand is slipping between the bushing and the nut (or washer if it has one). Be sure that the nut is as tight as you can get it by hand and then about an eighth of a turn more with pliers.
Great information! My cuckoo clock does this exact thing. Keep up the great videos. It’s always a pleasure seeing your new posts!
@@ibeflea thanks for watching! Feel free to reach out if you aren’t able to find someone to overhaul it for you.
Thx
Great vid.
Your videos are very helpful. Thank you!

Do you know how to order any part of citizen popp quartz clock in India?
Sorry, I don't. In the US, Citizen has reps who work with jewelers to do repairs. Not sure if they have a presence in India though.
I bought a cuckoo clock like a week ago I didn't use a screw I used a nail And It didn't fall
I have the exact same clock. Do you know the manufacturer, or the value? Thanks.
I don't know the manufacturer of this one, but typically a cuckoo like this would go for a few hundred dollars used and in working condition. If it's an 8-day with music, that's generally on the higher end, and a 1-day without music would be on the lower end. If you do some searching on eBay, you can get a feel for what they typically go for.
Did you date the clock? I have the same movement, and have proven 'before 1901', but not maker or anything closer...
I tried but wasn't able to get a more precise date. If you're able to figure out anything about yours, I'd love to hear what you find!
Cookoo clocks are not practical, dust and spider webs are drawn up into clock and fouls up the works!
Hi, we have a similar clock . In transporting to our new home the weights and pendulum were removed. I feel that I have the pendulum hung correctly on the bar but cannot see how I attach the weights onto the wheels. Could you offer advice please. Thank you
The wheel should have a loop that hangs from it (the wheel should be riding on the cable, not hanging by the loop), and the weight should have a hook that goes on that loop. Make sure the cable is wrapped properly around the wheel so it doesn't get pinched between the wheel and the loop. Also make sure the cable isn't unfurled inside the movement - that can happen in transit if the pulley wasn't secured in place.
Many thanks. I figired it out in the end. Ticking beautifully now! X@LoceneClockworks
So basically he's pulling on the weight to give it more power to get it beyond whatever is jamming or rubbing.. stealing the power. First thing to do is to set it up so you can watch it operate from the back, then when it gets stuck just poke around with a little stick or something until you discover what is causing the problem. Thanks for the helpful video.
That was absolutely excellent instruction Thank you
I would think using pure acetone would be the way to go for cleaning movements if you need to solvent clean them, it dries cleanly and won't harm metals. Will of course require reoiling of the springs as acetone is very much a degreaser and will pretty much dissolve anything oil (including many plastics).
When I was little, back in the late 60's, I loved both birds and clocks. When I saw cuckoo clocks in the Sears Christmas catalogue, I begged my parents for one. I know they were reluctant to get something that would spring to life and squawk every half hour, but I persisted, and Santa brought me one. Fast forward to last spring, when I finally found someone who could clean it and get it working again, as it had been silent and motionless for decades. He did this, but the lower whistle doesn't sound, and the bird does not bob. Watching your video, I think I know what to do to fix this! I'll let you know if I succeed. Thank you for the video. ❤🐦
Awesome! We'd love to hear what you find out!
@@LoceneClockworks I chickened out. I know the lower bellows does not move much, and I didn't have the nerve to dig around in there to see if I could fix it. I'll wait until it needs cleaned and oiled, and maybe that guy can make Charley a 2 syllable bobbing bird clock once again.
@ if you want to send us a video and some pictures, we can take a look and maybe respond with another video like this. LoceneClockworks@gmail.com
@@LoceneClockworks Okay, I'll do that. Thanks!
Also, I should stay. I followed the instructions in this video and it still won’t start.
@@DebraBundrum I’ve got a few other videos on troubleshooting, but a nutshell, listen to the tick - it should be like a metronome, not a heartbeat. Also look under the clock to make sure the wire the pendulum hangs on is not running anywhere. If it’s neither of those, it may just need to be serviced.
I have this very cuckoo clock. It was my father’s and it’s been packed up for two years. I just put it on the wall. I don’t know how to make it start.

That is the coolest thing I’ve ever seen!!!😀
I read the James Herriot books to my children when they were growing up… it was part of our bedtime routine. One of their favorite stories was, “Only One Woof”.☺️
@@GirlPaintsArt we are anxiously awaiting the season premiere coming up!
@ Yes!!
I have a German made grandfather clock and a Black Forest cuckoo clock that I, proudly, restored myself😊. I also have a collection of several small clocks sitting around my house and a display in a cabinet in my living room that I collected when I used to own an antique shop. Obviously, I have a thing for clocks.❤ I came here in search of how to oil my pendulum on my cuckoo clock that recently stopped swinging, as a clock repairman recently oiled to get it swinging again, but it has stopped once again and I can’t remember where he put the oil. I watched several of your videos and found one about oil and hope I don’t use too much oil. I enjoyed your videos, by the way. I hope you have a Merry Christmas!
Best of luck! Cuckoos tend to get really dirty too, so if you'll get out as much gunk as possible, that will help a lot. We go through a lot of toothpicks, brushes, pipe cleaners, paper towels, and things like that.
I see this ALL THE TIME. It's always disheartening when a customer tells me it was recently serviced by another person/shop, and I have to explain what you basically just said, then charge them to fix the problem or replace it. It's such a shame there are so many hacks out there charging for this kind of work. Good video!!
Great video, !!! Very informative, expecting my first clock soon. thank you for the info!!!
So glad to hear it was helpful!
The pull strength of a 3 year old? Hard to say these days...

@@ashtinx5843 that’s a great suggestion! There are a few scenarios that can happen - what specifically is going on?
My guy, you saved my sanity. Thank you!
Thank you my clock is going off at the 15 min marks.
The back spring or coils.
Does this need to have anything connected to this.

I have this exact clock Hanging in my living room and working well. Do you have an approximate value?
@@dennycubfan cuckoos that are used and working typically go for $100-$500, roughly. You can try searching eBay or online auction houses to see how much that specific type is going for.
Oh yeah
Thanks for this video! My in-laws had a 70’s vintage Schmeckenbecher cuckoo clock that we recently cleaned and got running again. The cuckoos were 2 hours behind and with the help of your video got I got the cuckoos to match the time again! Now, their clock also has dancers that spin just after the cuckoo. The seem to spin and dance a random number of times between 1 and 5. Any suggestions on fixing that? How many times are they supposed to dance?
@@dannyh9010 The dancers should spin steadily as long as the music plays. Sounds like they may be skipping or slipping.
This was so helpful! Thank you!!
These little tips matter. Sometimes we just dont think?❤
Ours keeps losing the correct time as well. The bolt is pretty tight. Need to find a smaller wrench to move it.
