Enjoyed following you along with the good and the bad, thanks for sharing your journey
Cheers Chris
Thanks for the final share .. and congrats on the build and your series, which I really enjoyed
Cheers, Thanks man
Beautiful car! Can’t believe you sold it, how much did you get if you don’t mind sharing?
Hi Paul. I don't think it's up to me to post on social media what the new owners paid. If they choose to post it that's fine. sorry mate
@@rustandpaint all good I appreciate your honesty. I love the colour combination you went with. I also have one, coupe 72 gts, there is so much more I want to do to it but don’t have the time.
@@paulcamilleri182 You can definitely sink some hours into them. Time is a problem, every 5 minute job takes 4 hours, lol. I found if I picked one thing that I wanted to get done and did an 1 hour or even 30 mins a day on it before or after work or when ever I could, it was amazing what you get done in a week or 2. The more I got done the keener i got.
I really enjoyed this series, thank you for sharing. Will wait for the next build. No doubt the quality will be equal or better, given the skills learnt with the Monaro. Nice work!
I'm going to try to do a very low budget build but still end up with a pretty nice car at the end.
Enjoyed watching the build mate 👍🏽The New owners will love it such a quality resto done. Look forward to the next one
Thanks mate
Enjoyed this build journey for sure, Cheers for sharing it with us, bloody great work!
@brushitoff503 Cheers Mate
Good luck with the ute resto I will be watching, new owners have a you beaut HQ Cheers Robbo.
@roadsign1402 Thanks Mate.
Beautiful, after a lot of work. The new owners will love it.
Choice, I kept fiddling with mine. Good Hardy machine. Thank you
That is nuts. imagine what rum does to your stomach. will be using this method next chance. Lucky for acreage I won't worry the neighbors. Great tip thank you.

Is Brendan local to Brisbane area? Have a hq that needs electrical work
@owh57 Hi mate, he doesn't do it anymore. He is too busy with other work.
Bloody beautiful mate, you should be proud she looks excellent
Thanks Mate. I'm pretty happy with it.
@rustandpaint You should be mate! I'm doing up a 68 Hk premier atm can not wait till she is finished....
@@spitzndtruth1484 I look forward to seeing your build, nice cars the HK Premier.
@rustandpaint So do I lol she's of to fabricators on the 25th! Going to paint her Nardo grey.... pro street set up. They are fantastic looking cars...you should see me around I am a sunny coast lad! 😎
@spitzndtruth1484 I'm west Brisbane, but I do get around.
Gidday mate where did you get the stainless steel strip which you put on the side
Hi Russell I made them out of 12mm x 2mm stainless flat bar. in one of the videos there is a bit on how I did it.
Thanks for the great tips, I have just purchased the roller/slide kit from Rare Spares. All 3 slides & pivots went on perfect however I don't know what the rollers in the kit are for? When I refit the window the new plastic slides push into the metal window slides however when you wind the window up it winds crooked & the slides pop out from the metal slides. Did you have this issues & am I missing something with the rollers?
In some photos it looks like Azure blue, in others not. What colour is it? Also I think it is fitting that you have a white roof, apparently for Monaros it was a Queensland only option according to the Monaros Bible.
Hi Mark, The colour is out of a colour swatch book. As far as i know it's not a car colour. It's called Atlas Blue, unfortunately it rarely photographs' the correct colour. I didn't know that bout the roof colour. I had only seen vinyl on the Monaro's. I went with the white for something different and to help keep the heat down so the AC wouldn't have to work as hard.
Paint job come up real nice
Cheers mate
I just put my wipers back on and I feel your pain. The drivers side took 3.5 hours and my arms looked like i'd been fighting cats.
it's awesome fun ,not. 😆 🤣
Great work bud

If you connect a airline to the spark plug hole you can use pressure to hold the valve up to stop it dropping down
I was told that after i had finished the job. My luck the compressor would give up the ghost mid job. lol

Joys of restoring a car bro
Where did you get the chrome brake booster from? Mine needs repainting but a chrome one looks nice.
I purchased it from eBay It was in 2018 , it works well It is a dual Diaphragm , I've heard good and bad about them. It's been ok so far, touch wood. it wasn't very expense, around the couple of hundred dollar mark
Respect Darryn, I had no idea.
Cheers Mike, Thanks for watching
Where’d the 350 crate engine come from? How much$$.
Eagle Auto Part, . it was $4200 long block $6200 full turn key which is what I purchased. 350/290hp. Son-in-law has one in his boat which was sweet so i put the same in the coupe, Im not sure they do the 350/290 anymore. They do a 355/390 for about $9500. i brought mine pre covid
That is NICE car.the legendary HQ different colour to whats out there in these models..always been a HQ fan and have my own Quey tonner and ute. i was just wondering. the paint job is great.what would a black line either satin or gloss look like to break up thr blue body and white hood where they meet on the pillar.just a thought.
Cheers Dallas , I have added polished stainless steel trim/ moulding to the join to finish it off. I'm still up in the air about it and if I fully like it or not. I have a bit more video to upload when I get time. Hopefully over the next week or so.
Love the videos mate, i will invest in a hq soon...will refer to these videos when i run into trouble
Cheer Jayden. I look forward to seeing your build.
@@rustandpaint Cant quite afford a Monaro, but looking at a VK Calais 333, fingers crossed. Start of the collection, one day i'll try get a Monaro or Torana that's the dream.
@jaydennharrisonn I ended up with the Monaro because I brought it when they were cheap. I couldn't buy one at the prices they are today. Build what you can afford, and whatever you like, the main thing is that you get enjoyment out of making it your own. The VK is a great car and look great, especially the calais.
What a classic! 👌
Cheers Man
Strip came out nice. Beautiful rebuilt, enjoyed the series and your commentary
Thanks Man, Appreciated
I think your brake booster is too small, I don’t think it would equal good breaking performance. Anyway, it is a very nice restoration and it’s a great colour combination. Love the videos.
Cheers mate, The booster is a dual diaphragm booster it it works well. My concern with it is how long it will last.
You have done an amazing job with the Monaro and it is beautiful well done
Thanks very much Michael.
Hi Darryn, Nice HQ! I hope you got all the gremlins out of it now. The stainless looks great! Well worth the hassle. Just a thought, see if you can get some high pressure fuel hose clamps for the auto cooler lines for extra bite on them as I've never been a fan of the normal hose clamps on cooler lines as they just seem to chew out the rubber hose and cause leaks after a while. Especially if there are no flares on the end of the lines that can be the case on these old cars.
Thanks Andrew, I just found broken body mount rubbers today. To long in the cupboard. I will check out the high pressure fuel hose clamps, Thanks for the heads up. Cheers Darryn
What a nice car. Congrats on a job well done.
Cheers Ben 🍻
thanks for the video
No worries, thanks for watching it.
excellent work man cheers.
Cheers Mate
I can relate! It’s taken me approximately 6 years to do the mechanicals on my Chrysler due to a low wage and I feel now that I’m done until something breaks or needs replacement? I often ask myself, why do I do this 😂 But she’s a great ol cruiser. Love the small block V8. Love the colour combo on yours mate! Looks real nice. Good luck 🤘
Cheers Mate, There is definitely something addictive about car restoration. Yes once you're cruising you soon forget about how hard or what a pain things have been. Seems there is always something waiting to break. I've just found that most of my body mount rubbers have cracked and broken. More fun a head. Your Chrysler is very nice mate, you have the 318 looking very clean tidy! Also a nice colour combo.
@@rustandpaint thank you kind sir. The problem is that I like a lot of classic cars and if I was a rich person I would have many 😂
@@Tk-ou9ec I think that's part of the disease. 😆
I restored a HZ premier took 5 years and still fixing stuff
Jim the HZ Premier is my favourite, I had a 79 Prem Wagon in 82-85 beautiful car! It seems to be a never ending affair with them, They like you spending money and having your hands all over them. LOL
Still cheaper than a woman😁@@rustandpaint
@20secs Cussing straight up👎🏻
Darryn I can sell you a genuine bignut GM Master cylinder to suit HQ.. reconditioned with new pistons/springs
Thanks for the offer, but I'm not in the market at the moment. Is it disc front and back or disc drum?
It’s disc front drum rear that’s what bignut cylinders are… all good mate👍
@Farmoils Thanks. I have disc all round. I put a WB Stateman diff in it. If I hear of anyone needing one, I will shoot you a message.
I owned a HQ GTS MONARO 2DR when i was 19 back in 84
A bit of hindsight would have been nice! That's a pretty nice car for a young fella back then.
It’s humbling to know im not the only one going through master cylinders. I’ve been going through the same thing, Protex master straight out the box leaking out the master cylinder, I’ve bought three so far.
I really think if you can find an original MC and have a stainless sleeve put in it you are better off. If this one goes, I will try to do that or try a Wilwood MC or something similar. You need to be able to stop without worrying if it is going to fail. The Protex and the one I purchased look identical. may be the same just a different box
@@rustandpaint costs and benefits of the wilwoods put me off, for every good comment on them there’s normally multiple negative. I’m currently filming a vy booster/master conversion as just like you I’ve had multiple problems with the aftermarket master cylinders.
@V8JakeC I brought the Wilwood HQ conversion kit when it was on special. it was around $120 off. They work well, but I'm not sure what I was expecting. the original PBR worked as well. I know a few who have the Wilwood MC, and they seem to be ok. I'm not keen on going through the Flexdrive route again, doing all that brake bleeding again. That's the only reason mentioned using the other brands. As you know, what a pain it is!
shouldn;t the engine be on warranty ? IIRC it was crate and that shouldn't happen , should it?
It had a 12months 120k warranty but it sat for over 2years in the shed before is put it in.
@@rustandpaint bugga
@@99gibby99 yeah, it was. lucky it was a simple inexpensive fix.
Loving the content. My wife and I built a hz kingswood and replaced almost everything with new or reconditioned parts.but then for the next 12 months it seemed every time we drove it we found one more thing that needed fixing.
I'm a HZ fan, my favourite Holden. It's funny how it's all great while they are sitting still in the shed, But once they start moving, How things change. LOL
Ahh the HQQQ Monaro. One of the most beautifully Australian designed machines to grace any Australian road. Certainly looks tuff MR.
Thanks Mate. They do have a nice shape about them.
omg i s love that car ty for saving her and ty for the videos ...now i have itchy feet to look for another one so thanks for that mate lol

Great perseverance, you have alot of patience, the results look like its worth it 👌
Cheers, Darryl, It has been worth it. I'm very happy with the result.
Enjoyed watching the long long long process. A lesser man would have given up. Well done.
Cheers Mate. it has had it moments. 😆 🤣 😂
Awesome, thank you!
Thanks, man!
Glad you didn't go too over the top with this, looks awesome! Coming from a Ford freak who owns a HQ ute himself. HQ and HK coupes are just awesome looking Holdens. Good video mate and glad you finally got it sorted, enjoy every bit of owning a fantastic car of that era!
