Preparing for surgery, ACDF
I have a surgery coming up soon, its called anterior cervical discectomy and fusion to 'fix' a slipped disk causing a spinal cord injury and compressed nerves. I've found it very difficult to accept the need for surgery, because the surgery will just stop me getting worse. I need to accept that I’m going to go through this traumatic procedure and come out of it about the same as when I went in. But now, I’m positive about my recovery and that whatever happens will not be more than what I can cope with. So I’d like to share some tips on how I turned around my approach, and don't forget a plan for your pets.

Emergency Groom, Mini Schnauzer vs plant

Ramone battled it out with plant and came off second best. Covered in sticky seed pods he was in need of a super groom. I've looked on the internet and can't find what the plant is, if anyone knows drop me a comment below.

Disability, medical or social problem?
มุมมอง 1822 ปีที่แล้ว
Adaptive Go is all about using whatever tools and technology you can so that you can adapt to live a free and full life. Medicine can help you be faster and stronger and works for some and has its place, but it can’t fix everything. The social model of disability is about removing barriers that make life harder for disabled people. It creates more independence, choice and control. Technology, u...

Tips for coping with an invisible disability
มุมมอง 3182 ปีที่แล้ว
Disability can be obvious, especially if someone is using a disability support. An invisible disability is where it isn’t obvious. It means it’s possible to hide in a crowd, but because people can’t see it, they assume you’re fine. In this vid, I’ll give you some ideas about how to manage and communicate your disability if its invisible. The 2013 New Zealand Disability Survey Source: www.health...

Mini Schnauzer jump training
มุมมอง 1.5K2 ปีที่แล้ว
My Mini Schnauzer, Ramone, was not too happy about jumping on a train carriage so I'm working on his jumping confidence. As a Service Dog its important that he can jump on command and jump onto unstable platforms. So we're practicing those skills today and also having some fun jumping across rocks.
2021 Sit Ski season review
มุมมอง 4282 ปีที่แล้ว
A little inspiration - Its summer now in New Zealand so I thought I put together a wrap up of my 2021 sit ski season. It was an incredible season once again, as I was lucky enough to be able to sit ski mostly unaffected by Covid and catchup up with other sit skiers. I spent time adapting to the dual sit ski rig for the first time and travelled to some of my favourite ski resorts here in New Zea...

I must say that I really like your videos that you upload Stephanie. They are informative re ski set-up and your observations and feedback is great. Can I ask…What sort of runs do you tend to ski? I’m finding it difficult to progress from blue to red in a dual-ski. I traverse quite slow and then speed up in the transition through the turn. Then tend to skid more and fall uphill if I wipe out! So, basically lack control on steeper slopes. Many thanks

This chair is no use to anybody above a paraplegic spinal injury. The amount of force needed to bring it to a stop is beyond the ability of most tetraplegics and obviously impossible for quad. Other than taking away the ability to use my upper body (which all paraplegics need to use, Even just to remain upper body fit.), what use does this chair have for the average user. Can I attach a disabled shopping trolley to it for example? You've invented a sit on segway that you charge an absolute fortune for! congrats.

    • @brians48now

I don't like this chair at all. It wouldn't fit my needs even a little but that's also why there are so many different chairs and scooters in the market. This chair wouldn't work for you and that can be seen early on in the video so why even bother to watch and then post a negative comment?

hi good review and update thanks. I'm trying to decide between an older model like this instead of the new 965 and so. Does it has hrv status into account? Also in the map section, can you look for tracks around? I saw this option in the new models and I think it's quite useful. When you got to a location the watch can give tracks with some specific km and so... thanks.

Yes, very good - can't say enough how drawers can be so much easier than cupboards - the doors do get in the way! It's interesting to hear you say about how with a spinal injury 'normal, mundane tasks' become extremely exhausting - I still try to stand as much as I can, but I know it's to my detriment - trying to cook takes all afternoon & is like mountain climbing... We're just about to redesign one end of the kitchen to make it more accessible for me to use & I'm wondering how expensive the movable counter-top is with the sink in? And what other options there could be for a static, as we will have 2 in our kitchen? You certainly have done the perfect job with your oven, we're going to do that & I'm going to have another pull out work top near 'my' sink. I'm also thinking I don't need as deep a bench top as usual, because that restricts my reach above. For some it may well be worth looking at "new' ways of cooking - like with multi cookers, which are cheaper to run than an oven, easier & safer to use and can free up time - as everything takes me about 5Xs as long to do as it used to. Lovely kitchen, Laura, hope you are loving your kitchen?!

I'm looking for info also! Great ideas! My husband is wheelchair bound and we are both left handed, which I'm thinking watching you open drawers. Wondering if the oven door ever swings back on itself. I'd like to see if anyone could do a swing up door, so the door would be overhead to prevent possible burning. This is such a great video! Blessings!!!

That was and easy decision! I'm still riding 8 years later! Although I did have to quit e-mountain biking 2 years ago, because I could no longer walk back to safety if I had bike problems, I'm still riding thanks to e-bike technology!
