Bauhaus - Bel Lugosi's Dead - the original version used for the Video 4.2.1979
September 7th + 8th 1979, a chaotic 2 days for me. Friday the 7th we arrived at the Marquee in London for the first time, a support slot for Gloria Mundi. There was the usual treatment from headliners and in house technicians and to top it all we managed to get 'fined' for playing over the 30 minute set ......... Bela Lugosi's Dead hit the 15 minute mark which cost us £33 ! I woke up early on Saturday the 8th and for some mad reason I decided to drive to Small Wonder to pick up 50 Bela 12 inch's. These were the first records that we had and perfect for selling at the Paddock gig that night. I got back from London in good time for my job at the Saints match against Harlequins. I was responsible for organising the turnstiles and collecting the cash. Then I went straight to Harpole for the gig which was sold out. We made £402 and sold £139 worth of signed records. Things were happening fast !!

    And to think that exactly "five fucking years ago" on ( Friday September 13th 2019 ) I found out that Bauhaus were "reuniting" after a "36 year hiatus". What a LUCKY Friday the 13th that was for me!!!... Jesus, Peter looking so fucking GORGEOUS here throughout the video ( specially at the end wearing those white tights ) making this current "Friday the 13th" a fucking TREAT for me reminiscing about the Bauhaus "early days". ***Friday September 13th 2024***

    this is excellent, thank you for posting. All that opening percussion, brilliant, evocative of bat wings, tapping branches, creaking doors and floorboards...and I only just realised, underscored by a bossa beat, partly obscured by other sounds. Inspired classic

    Only went to the Paddocks once. A little too young, so missed a few cool things, this included. The place was a Beefeater restaurant last I saw. That's a nice little piece of beautifully banal Northampton life in the description. Nice to have some happening fast. Though most life is happening slow.

      Yes, what a load of rubbish. “I vote labour to keep the tories out.” This band and several others had a tremendous impact on me as a youth and to hear him basically renege on everything he apparently never stood for stinks. It was just a pose, no real intention to make any real difference, just a way to justify shit music and fashion. Problem is the world is on the edge of absolute catastrophe and we need to get our act together and stop this insanity from taking us down with it, not trying to make a few quid regurgitating what you never believed in the first place. Fucking rubbish. Personally I lost interest after the miners strike, I was starting to see that we were being led down the garden path by these outfits, but I thought they were at least sincere in their ideas, even if I was leaving them behind. Today I think of myself as a Marxist. It is all about class, the exploitation of one by the other, a system that either we put down or it takes us with it.

    • @fretboardfodder1037
      @fretboardfodder1037 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@stevepace-first8617 Yeh, and he's up on stage doing those crass songs, and he's admitted he doesn't even believe in them. By the way, Penny Rimbaud owns the dial house now, he doesn't rent it, and it's worth upwards of about £1.5 million. Not bad going for an anarcho punk band. It's all a pose like you said. Remember when Ignorant said the Shepherds Bush Empire gig would be last ever time he would perform crass songs? Then he realised it's a good earner.

    This is from the Cambridge gig at the Corn Exchange on June 27th 1981. I was there, and can spot a few of my friends clearly in the audienve. A lot of us ventured from Norwich to Cambridge for the gig.
