The Role of the Sub-Committee Chair

Jamie sits on Sovereign Network Group’s Executive Board where he has responsibility for establishing a community foundation worth £100m. He also has responsibility for communications and political engagement, impact reporting and a new centre of excellence for research & innovation.
Jamie has nearly 20 years’ experience working at a senior level in housing at local, national and regional levels, including commencing the Stirling Prize winning Goldsmith Street development and being responsible for housing for the current and previous Mayors of London.
He has non-executive experience at the London Pension Fund Authority, The Housing Forum and Watford Community Housing - where he chaired the Business Development Committee and Clarendon Living - the commercial subsidiary. Jamie has recently been appointed to the board of Tower Hamlets Community Homes. Jamie is a proud father of two mischievous children and is a passionate Norwich City fan.
The session was hosted by Peter Brown who is part of the Dynamic Boards NED Community. Peter is a Trustee for a charity that operates a school and a care home, Chairs another charity and has also recently become a Committee Member for a housing association.
We followed the discussion with breakout sessions to allow members time to discuss the following questions:
1. How should a Board ensure that there is adequate line of sight between itself and its Committees?
2. Committees are expected to monitor as well as to advise the Board. How should the Board Chair and the Committee Chairs navigate this?
3. How should Chairs work together outside of their Committees so that they can best support the organisation?
