lazyvim: adding rg for better searching
Lately, I've found that my lazyvim acted badly when I typed 'c' in the main screen (to configure the editor's settings). The error included a box stating `Unable to stat file /Users/kelley/.config/nvim/find` which confused me because (of course) I don't have such a file. So I did a websearch and found that the problem was that I don't have `rg` installed. This video shows how I discovered this problem, and how I fixed it on my macOS machine,. (That's a lot of words to describe a 1-minute video ...)

Neovim code action
มุมมอง 2614 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
I show how to use a "code action" to add a command to tell the linter to stop complaining about an overly long line of R code. Code action is mapped to ` ` ca` in my neovim (lazyvim) setup.

Making presentation slides in typst
มุมมอง 129หลายเดือนก่อน
I have started using typst for simple memos and reports, and this video shows my initial exploration with using typst also for presentations. It is very fast, and easy to use. If you are familiar with using LaTeX (or TeX) for equations, it won't take you long to make the (slight) switch to typst notation. The bottom line? I will likely use typst to make presentations in the future.
Using typst to write simple memos

I am new to the typst type-setting system, and am enjoying it so far. In this video, I show a bit about how I set it up with neovim on a macOS machine. Typst is a markdown-type system that seems like a good alternative to latex.
A test of the speedyweather.jl Julia package

I learned of this package just this morning, and I have just now got the chance to try working with it. In this video, I'll show the webpage for the package, and show how to run of the examples contained therein. Note that the documentation (at this moment) says "nlayers" for something that seems to be called "nlev" now. I point that out. Not to gush too much, but speedyweather seems very excit...
lazyvim demo: sessions & markdown checklists
มุมมอง 413 หลายเดือนก่อน
This video shows me editing in lazyvim, highlighting two features I just noticed: 1. sessions. These are very helpful; why did I not know of this before??? 2. markdown previews of checklists. This is an elegant feature that doesn't really matter much, except that its elegance can brighten your day.
Using R to overview NetCDF files

In this video, I talk a bit about why oceanographers (and many other scientists) use NetCDF file. Then I show how to use an app from the nctools system,' to get an overview of such files. And, finally, I show how to get an overview using an R script I wrote (available at the gist quoted below). The advantage of this script is that you won't need to download the 'nctools' package. gist.github.co...

how to toggle neovim's autoformat on save
มุมมอง 1195 หลายเดือนก่อน
In neovim (at least in lazyvim, as I have it set up) when I type :w to write a file, it autoformats it. I've just learned how to turn that behaviour of for a file: type SPACE-u-f. That's what I show here, with some R code. If you want to turn off autoformatting on save as a default, put the following into your ~/.config/nvim/lua/config/autocmds.lua file: vim.api.nvim_create_autocmd({ "FileType"...

Nice video! Good to know that \pause is supported. Have you tried chomosuke/typst-preview.nvim? It seems cool, not sure if it is useful =)
Thank you for learning out loud, Dan! Not really on the topic of typst, but I'm curious what you use memos for!
Partly, it's a learning exercise so I don't have to scour the web to find templates for any given purpose. I teach, and so at the start I had a template for assignments for my classes, another for lecture plans, etc. Then I started boiling them down into one -- that's what 'memo' is. Lately, I've been using it for any document that is under a few pages in length, e.g. assignments, notes on student work, reports on exams, etc. For the other main (non-research) task, I use the preview/touying:0.5.3 template. For longer-form work, I still fall back on latex, because that's what journals want, and that's how my other long-form work (a textbook, 300+ page course notes, etc) is framed.
You’re actually looking at a digital elevation model derived from a LiDAR point cloud. LiDAR (vectors) were possibly used to produce that raster (tiff/geotiff). The individual points from the laser were processed by either creating a TIN or simply binning the vectors, to create a mesh. Either way, you’re left with a raster file that has a separate band outside RGB that has elevation data per pixel.
Can I predefine a horizontal code at the top point and solve the mooring line profile? which command or test case shall I use or refer to?
I don't know what you mean by 'horizontal code'. If you have a question about the mooring package, please consider making an issue on the github site www.github.com/dankelley/mooring/issues
Thanks for sharing! I found tmux walkthrough really helpful.
Actually, the 'data' tab of profvis is very useful! That's how I figured out the problem. See github.com/dankelley/mooring/issues/63
Great Video! How would I approach removing outliers from the CTD profile data due to errors with the sensors. I already used the ctdTrim() and ctdDecimate() functions?
Thank you for documenting your NB journey. I'm in the same boat, learning NB (and Obsidian) at the same time, and attempting to keep both applications data directories in the same place, so I can create quick notes in NB, but manipulate them is Obsidian. Fun!
Great date!
An excellent addition to this already great software!
It's really great. May I ask you how u have download this latest version of RStudio ?
