Elite collegiate women race walk -- slow-motion study
The rules of race walking do not allow the athlete to repeatedly have both feet off the ground long enough for it to be perceptible to the unaided human eye. That is a threshold around 50 thousandths of a second of lost contact. The frames in this video are 33 milliseconds apart which means that if there are two consecutive frames showing both feet off the ground during several steps in a row, the athlete is in danger of being given a red card. Three red cards from three different officials would lead to them fouling out and being removed from the competition.
For comparison, a runner is off the ground with both feet for more than 140 milliseconds every step they run.

Hyperextension in the race walk action -- two lessons
มุมมอง 6684 หลายเดือนก่อน
1. Judges should take care not to mistake hyperextension of the knee (the angle at the back of the knee exceeds 180 degrees) for failure to comply with the rules. In these examples, both athletes land with a generally straight leg but the knee angle continues to change as the leg passes under the body. Observing an athlete taking three or more steps per second can give the illusion that the leg...
Super shoe distortion on landing during a race walk
มุมมอง 3644 หลายเดือนก่อน
This clip of a race walker's foot is taken at 120 frames per secon. It shows a single ground contact with a thick soled shoe including a foamed Pebax midsole and moderator plate. The sole distortion may add to a judge's visual perception of lifting since the foot does not decelerate as rapidly in this type of shoe as in thinner soled shoes with traditional EVA midsoles. There is no one 'best ra...
