idk from what i can tell and after practicing it a bit, you should for most part be able to see the target as you kick. when you bend down and tripod you can look down between your legs to see the target as you shoot your heel at it

the ebi geri flows into countless other attacks, kicks, elbows, spins, roll throughs, punches, knees etc. it is not very simple thing to even begin to counter the ebi geri. the tripod platform that the ebi geri is launched from is extremely stable. it can flow into back heel or scorpion kicks, roundhouses and more. the body disappear far from the opponent view and line- the only thing thr opponent sees is the foot coming from insane angles

This is the first time I've ever seen Taido sparring and it looks very interesting to watch. I can't imagine the amount of conditioning needed to have the stamina to keep doing these movements. You guys must do a lot of jogging and jump rope.

I only studied Taido for a year but I loved it. I, unfortunately was not athletic enough to really accel, yet one of my teachers was a good 150# overweight and she moved like a cat! As flashy as it is, its well thought out, effective and practical.

some tips even tho im not a master I usually use taido and karate in street fight so I have real life experience: i like to be flashy even in street fights so what you want to do now is you need to focus more in training speed and balance before showing off flashy skills.Taido is really hard to use in real fights due to the turning and balance being a bit risk in real fights but if you can speed up kicks and being able to deliver force while adding speed, taido can be a real deal in fight. So focus in speed first and when you think you are fast enough then try flashy moves like flips or things like that. Also train to be a bit more flexable since it will help alot and train getting up faster because that is the core of taido.

Surprised capoeira wasn't mentioned as a martial art that has the Nengi since capoeira and taido are so similar. It's called tesoura in capoeira.

I have to wonder why the only takedown permitted in taido is a technique regarded by judo organizations as too dangerous for sport competitions.
