is not not possible to replace motor without removing the whole assembly?
Unfortunately, no. But luckily, it’s a pretty straightforward process
@@Simplethingscomplicated alright thanks.. i'm going to give it a shot this weekend this video was helpful hopefully its same for a 2013 model
Enjoyed watching this I just subscribed THANKS!
Glad you did! I appreciate the support.
hey the motors sound like they're spinning but the wipers arent moving, are the teeth on either the wiper arms or the teeth on the whole assembly deal there that spins. does that sound like a proper diagnoses? and do i just pull the whole assembly out and take out that nold on the bottom side on each side?
Thanks man, great video! I’m in the same boat. Have a Jetta 207,000 miles and still running great have had so few problems with it so it’s hard to let go and now I’m living in dry Southern California where it almost never rains so I’m almost debating even doing it but if I want to try and sell it it might be good. Thanks for the video
I have a 2011 Jetta TDI. Wipers stopped working. I replaced the linkage and the motor and I can see the linkage moving without the wipers but as soon as I put the wipers on, the wipers don't move. I hear the motor working. What could be the problem?
I’m having the same problem
@@charlie25brownmine turned out to be a defective new motor
Your not Derek from vice grip
Absolutely enjoy watching your videos.
You sure will age a nice truck we your done working on it.
Based on the subject matter, your videos are the best on TH-cam,
I would love to have that car. It would be fun for autocross
Excellent video. Thanks. I just completed the job on my 11 Jetta. Follow along, pause, do, repeat. Best part was oh no where do the wipers go back on where they were before on off position ??? My window not washed either and easy to align with the dirt mark on window. Saved !! Repairpal estimate to do the job was 888-1113$. Motor remanufactured was 160$ and little over an hour. Wipers came off using my official wiper tool but they’re a bit tough with minimal leverage on the turning bar so made an extension with deep socket and extension. Also good advice to cycle the motor before putting on the wipers. I was a little afraid of something being off from out of box motor and having wipers end up in the engine bay or in the yard. Thanks again. Also comments side comments were good like Milwaukee etc.
I just did the same repair on a 2006 2500HD with a regular cab 8ft bed. Otherwise, damage is identical. Used a dorman front bolt in tank support and an ebay repro rear tank support. Did a ton of rust cleanup on the whole frame. The bulging between the frame and the rear crossmember/spare tire bracket wouldn't be nearly as bad if they just put bolts in the holes for the 1-ton helper spring bracket that would otherwise be installed. I had to hand form an emissions canister bracket from some old stainless sheet because that thing was as thin as a piece of paper in the spots that still existed. Glad to see there are more people out there fighting the good fight.
Brilliant, using a flare tool to remove wiper arm. Well done!
Vgg want to be lost interest in the First two Minutes I'll keep watching vgg.
It's pretty trivial to swap in a 5 speed. I did it BITD on my 84' T-Bird with the god awful CFI 5.0. The only thing that wasn't plug and play was the shifter hole. Non 5 speed cars do not have the hole in the tunnel and it has to be cut in. Everything else bolted right up. I robbed all the 5 speed swap parts from a Turbo Coupe. That sounds like the timing is WAAAYYYY off. That's spark knock.
On the 87-88 turbo coupes they have the hole in the tunnel. No cutting required! Due to the fact of the floor shift in the automatic. I may or may not have all the parts ordered/pulled for the swap. You are correct with the spark knock. Going to do timing belt and get the injectors cleaned up with plug wires, cap and rotor.
I'd like to see someone swap a modern 2.3 four cylinder ecoboost in one of these turbo t-birds. Ten speed automatic and 4.10 rear gear sounds interesting to drive.
Maybe if I’d find another one. This one I’d like to keep it stock. Besides the 5 speed.
Definitely keep it stock
Plan to! But there may be a 5 speed in it’s near future
I had one of those back in the day mine was white with red interior with a 5 speed trans it was super fun
Man! I love the red leather interior on these cars! It’d be cool to find one
Closest vehicle I drove that was just like that but was older was an 84 cougar I like the body style it was really nice just ours was junked because the body looked okay but the frame rails or a non-existent I don't know how the car was staying together
They are really sweet cars. Hope I can get this one back on the road.
The Thunderbirds are very good car to save my youngest sister's boyfriend had one and he had it repaired couldn't pay the bills left it at the garage never picked it back up it was a shame hazardous Gray
I’m sure someone else enjoyed it afterwards haha
I love your little guy working with you! Cherish them while they’re little, before you know it, they’ll be on their own.
It’s an amazing feeling. But yes, unfortunately they grow too quick. But that won’t stop me from making the most of the limited time I have to teach him.
That’s exactly how my son learned about cars and HVAC repairs, just tagging along with the old man. I actually have a picture of him changing the water pump on my wife’s GMC Yukon at 8 yrs old and again at 16 years old. Keep up the great content.
Keep it stock, rebuild the motor and transmission. Like your idea of making it a 5 speed.
I’m really leaning towards a 5 speed. Just have to find all the parts. Engine might be good the way it is! The next video about this car will explain a few things
Looks good. My 2004 Silverado needs a bumper, this inspired me to give it a go and make my own.
Awesome! Glad I could help. The hardest part is getting started.
❤ these cars .
It’s growing on me too
Stop copying Derek from vice grip garage
That motor has a knock in it in the bottom end
Not quite
100% keep it and fix it. It's a very cool car from it's time, I had a 88 in the mid 90's and it was still like driving a bond car with all of the gadgetry inside. a 5 speed swap would be ideal, it was a much more fun car in a 5 speed.
I’m keeping my eye out!
That's a very clean Thunderbird. I think you should keep it stock and keep it as a daily driver.
I will more than likely! Just wanna put a 5 speed in it.
A video full of bing bing bing......
The 70's and 80's classic cars are making a MAJOR comeback because people no longer have the money to buy new cars and this cars are cheap and parts are still available. One of the older 20somethings that I work with that has been tinkering with a 84 T-bird redoing it slowly. When he gets done with it he's going to sell his newer car and put the money in the bank.
They definitely are making a comeback! The nice thing about the thunderbirds is that it’s a fox body platform so you are right in saying you can still get parts for them.
@@Simplethingscomplicated yep just about everything fox body fits it.
@@Simplethingscomplicated if you don't mind me asking what brand of diaper are you using, Huggies is not working for me?
@@triggerguy8405switch to pamper swaddlers. You pull the flaps out on those Bad boys no leaks even after big number 2s and all day of number 1s. The rest of the brands are inadequate
I'm not going to sit here and watch 48 minutes of this nonsense. It's simple..... Your fuel pump is shot, all of your vacuum lines are rotted, chances are that ABS unit is probably seized. Probably needs a new key cylinder. Brake lines, fuel line, struts, shocks, probably a new ride height sensor. The electrical problem he was probably trying to track down was either key cylinder related, or the ground wire on the fuel sending unit rotting out on the back side. Good luck with that intercooler. If you don't get that boot seated around the top of the turbo, you are going to regret it. And you probably won't be able to see it when the vehicle is running. But there's also a vacuum line underneath there, but as soon as you touch the gas, if it's rotted, it'll suck the vacuum line closed. And create a loss of power. Now as far as that turbo goes. You can put an adjustable waist gate on there. Make sure you pull the overboost buzzer out from underneath the dash out. And, watch out for that shift cable, they have a tendency to break. In which case.... I got the last one in the country, as far as I can tell. And once that goes, you won't be able to take and pull parts out of the b&m catalog to fix it. All the parts in that transmission are obsolete. So, good luck.
I would love to chat with you more about these cars. Email me at simplethingscomplicated@gmail.com
@@Simplethingscomplicated ... I'm sure you have questions. I have some answers. The car in this picture here, is the third one of those vehicles that I built over the years. The one in the picture, belonged to my son. I had two others, an automatic, and a manual. Plus, a turbo cobra mustang. I was put out to early retirement after, 28 years in the repair industry. I can very easily talk about that car, and my experiences underneath the hood with that car. And with many others just like it. Go ahead, what's on your mind?
Well that sound was spark knock. I undid the spout and moved distributor and was able to get rid of the noise but it’ll come back if I plug spout in. It won’t idle great under 1500 RPM and doesn’t seem to have power under load. I was able to drive it around the block but it had a terrible time going up hills. Shifted through all the gears. Put new lifters in because the caps on some of the old ones cracked. Have decent oil pressure now. Trying to diagnose the no power issue. I don’t think it’s building boost
5:20 that is your eec4 control. That's where you plug in your code scanner.
Those are cool cars. I'd keep it stock. They drove real nice when they were new. It sounds like the lifters aren't pumping up. Part of that noise could be the turbo since you mentioned that was a problem. It's hard to tell, microphones do funny things to engine noises. Keep the kids involved and it will be a lifetime hobby for all of you.
Well I’ve had some development since this video! But I agree they are cool cars and I’d love to get this one back on the road. Definitely a keeper
BE YOURSELF NOT DEREK! BE ORIGINAL!
I am myself! Thank you
Nice. Where did you get fuel tank. The one I looked at didn't come with orings or grommets

I thing you need A cameraman
Yes, that would be convenient. But not on the wallet!
thats absolutely terrifying how much additives you used.
The more the merrier!
What the Hell do old people smell like. I will give the car a thumbs up
Most older folks’ homes have a unique smell!
Hopefully while in the car, the little ones will pester daddy to do burnouts.
I’m hoping so! My son already loves coming out and helping. Has a little stool and is always asking what he can do to help.
As soon as the brats got in the way I quit watching.
I’m sorry that you feel that way. But my children are my world and this is my channel. Hope you find what you’re looking for.
Another VGG wannabe 🤦
Hey! When you wanna go ahead and put yourself out there, let me know! I’m not trying to be like anybody. Just trying to make a difference in my life. How about yourself?
It sounds like its pinking timing needs checking way to far addvanced maybe
Maybe so! I’m leaning towards an engine rebuild.
I’ve honestly never seen a five speed v-8 version of the that year t-bird I think it would be a great combo
I think it would be too! I might build another one after I get this one running. I’d like to have 1 turbo 5 speed and 1 5.0 5 speed
did you check trans fluid lol
Maybe…after the fact 😅 rookie mistake.
@@Simplethingscomplicated if it was low then thats why it wont move in gear
Dude… please drop the vice grip garage act. You could have a decent channel but the blatant vgg ripoff is so off putting. You seem like you could make some great content
Thank you for your input. If you read an above comment you’ll see I already addressed this. But there is no “act” who you see is who I am. Believe it or not, there are similar personalities out there. But for you I will try and be better. I appreciate you taking the time to watch and leave a comment. I hope you have a great day.
Yeah it's kind of creepy...
He's not that badp
A word of advice - shoot footage of your work under the car.
Thanks for the tip! I will definitely be doing that.
A lot better than plenty of trucks half it's age...
This is true. I love older Chevy trucks. Easy to work on, and parts are decently affordable!
The temp under idle seem high.
Yes I agree. After this video I checked coolant and added some. Think it had some air in system.
@@Simplethingscomplicated Oh, is that one of those systems that has to be bled? I had a 1984 Renault Fuego that was always overheating, because the electric fan would not kick in. ZIt turned out there was an air bubble right at the sensor that should have turn it on. I bled the system and everything was fine.
@bessarion1771 well it’s a good thing you figured that out! This car here is full of surprises. That’s what happens when things sit so long. Well get the kinks worked out!
