    Best remedy for SAD is vitamin D take it all year round. Caused by lack of vitamin D. We upped our vitamin D intake and is much much better!! Better than a lamp wayyy better imho.

    Funnily enough, I stopped suffering with the winter blues when I started growing at the allotment. I started looking forward to the slower pace of winter after the frantic growing, weeding and harvesting periods of spring and summer. Although I've never had proper SAD I have to confess.

    May I suggest you take 10000iu D3+K2, B12 and 500mg Magnesium . I get mine from British Supplements as they don't have in bulking agents or fillers in them. I am 75 and feel great after taking these. It can take 4 to 6 weeks before you feel the benefit. Of course you may already take these? As you have had so many days in gloom and doom you definitively need these.

I now live in Crocketford near Dumfries, and have never experienced problems with excess rust on the vehicles, I am not sure where you are but if you are but I would be happy to recommend some good trades people to you if appropriate. as for the rain and wind you just get used to it, oh and Beer is definitely cheaper than down south 😀

    The overall big physical issue is lack of vit d... all of which your steps will he'll. But the body needs to be 'refilled with vit d via large doses, then a maintenance dose is fine. I has Seasonally Affective Disorder fir years, until vitd worked where other methods didn't. Good luck x

    hello, and thank you for talking about seasonal affective disorder. I’ve suffered with it for a long time and it took me awhile to work out how to deal with it. I did not consider sleep times as important so it’s great that you mentioned it. In the last two years, I tried to extend my summer by going away in October in order that I can get a little bit of extra sun before we hit deep winter this does help a lot. I also have an allotment and I go out to it as much as I can during the winter months in order to have a little bit of what I classify as therapy. I also exercise and I’m trying to get back to it more regularly in order that I can do better. I have to work on my sleep and I also have to work on remembering to take my multivitamin every night. Something else I do that you did not mention, is, I actually bought some sunlight bulbs for the whole house. So rather than relying on one therapy lamp, you can buy bulbs that fit into a normal light socket, and what I make sure of is that i I turn them all on in the morning in order that I can get that bright light.

      Thank you for sharing your experience with seasonal depression, it's great to talk about it as lots of people struggle at this time of year. It sounds like you've got some good strategies to deal with it, we'll look into these sunlight bulbs. Hope you are doing well and getting plenty of time on the allotment!

      @StellasVegetablegardens 7 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @ thank you so much for asking. I am doing okay I am keeping myself busy and just like you I make sure that I get out to see the day and when the Sun comes through the window and make sure that I’m sat right by the window, looking at it and enjoying it, all, those kind of things help me to stay steady. I think the worst time is January I don’t know why it is it might be because we’ve been longer in the dark days by then and therefore it becomes more of a challenge. I am lucky that next year I will hopefully be going away to a more sunny environment at the end of January, which will mean that I have something to look forward to which can also help to lift the spirits, and looking forward to another of your lovely videos as they do lift the spirit as well

    I have experience growing Thornless Blackberries and Boysenberries in Australia and Southern New Zealand. Yes you need some sort of trellis or similar. But for example some timber posts at each end, and in the middle, with just some wires or coarse wire netting, which we call "sheep fence" for example. Ensure the posts are securely in the ground as once vines are grown and have leaves on them, , the wind force will be substantial. But make the bottom wire or wirenetting be clear above the ground by a foot to 18 inches. Each year train the new growth that rushes up from the ground in the new growing season, up one side, or the other, in alternate years. This is because you want to guide the NEW growth that is going to be NEXT YEAR's fruiting canes, don't get confused and mix up with older canes. After exiisting canes have finished giving fruit, cut that cane back to a few inches above the ground. As you can see, it is important to NOT accidentally prune off the new canes by mistake, or you will have no fruit NEXT season. Don't expect much fruit in the first season, but once the roots are established a new cane can grow up as thick as a thumb nearly and grow 7 or more metres in length and with side branches also, in the second year, with the benefit of those established roots. That will then fruit all along that cane, the following year. I water mine heavily but in Scotland that's unlikely to be necessary (except for newly planted plants initially).

    Try using "Aqua steel rust converter " on your car chassis clean any loose thick rust off first but dont go too mad as it needs the rust to convert it back into solid metal you just paint it on with a brush I usually wait while a dry day in Autumn to get underneath I made some ramps out of 6" x 2" timber do the front first then reverse up them to do the rear I quite enjoy the job and it really does work once you start each year is easier as all you need to do is just clean the muck off before re-applying , I prefer talking to the nature & wildlife all around me trees and animals make good friends 😀

    New subscriber catching up on your videos! Re the rhododendron roots, if you don’t want to use chemicals or a digger - just cut the stems back to ground level and keep cutting all new shoots as they appear. It may take a year or so, but eventually the roots will give up and die. The problem is then the roots are still there and may be in your way! If you want to plant something else there, you really have no choice but to dig the roots out. (Edit. Just want to add I was guided here by The Scottish Isle)

    Lovely! We moved in the area about 2 years ago. Our garden is smaller than yours, but much bigger than regular UK gardens, and certainly an improvement since we were living in a flat before. We grow some of our food as well (but no animals), and we have a little tree nursery. If you ever need any hazel saplings for your property, do let me know. I'll probably bring a couple of bunches to the Wigtown market, at the end of November, if you're in the area. I look forward to watching more of your videos. Not even been close to self sufficient, will take you at least 3 years as you need to plant all your soft fruit and it won't yield much in the first year then you need to plant your fruit trees and nut trees, they take about 2 years to give a decent return and then you need a goat for milk and very healthy milk it is as well, chickens for eggs and if you have a shed than fatten a couple of weaner pigs for the deep freeze I know all this and how long it takes as already done it and still doing it and it is well worth the time and effort. So stick too it and where exactly in Scotland are you based. If I know I can guide you to various places you can shop at.
