Case neck tension on annealed VS not annealed brass case - Neck tension gauges
มุมมอง 1.8K9 หลายเดือนก่อน
Demonstrating the consistency / inconsistency of neck tension on annealed vs non-annealed brass once it’s fully prepped. You may have a 0.002 expander ball or expander mandrel, and expect 0.002 neck tension as a result. How do you m know that’s accurate and consistently so if you are not measuring it?

Testing / Comparing Different Primer Pocket Reamers. Which one works best?
มุมมอง 6K2 ปีที่แล้ว
Someone has asked me to create a video comparing the Burstfire Primer Pocket Reamer, against other popular, and highly recommended products out there. FYI: This is comparing reamers, not swagers. A reamer is still the most cost effective crimp removing solution, versus spending 2-5x more in cost for a swaging solution.

    I love the continual search for improvement. From the small case wheel, to the 50 BMG kit, the aluminum drive wheels, the short case ramp, the adjustable tilt legs, to the variable torch holder…it’s just a constant stream of features and improvements. By far this continues to be the most full featured, best priced, best supported annealing product on the market. You never cease to amaze me!

      Hi. This is a 50 BMG kit, allowing you to anneal larger cases like the CheyTac and 50BMG. The largest case Burstfire annealers can accept prior to this were 338 lapua mag. Which means Burstfire will now work with all cases from 17/22 hornet and up to 50 BMG.

    • @burstfiregunsdotcom
      @burstfiregunsdotcom 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi, one of the case prep center motor spins at a 45% reduced speed by design. This is to allow the use of tools such as the flash hole Uniformer in a prep center. Most prep centers spins at a greater speed making it difficult to align the point of the tool to the small pocket. Especially when most of the rod are not perfectly straight and wobbles a bit when spun. It is still fast enough where it can still effectively perform all prep center functions. The reduced speed station is station 4, the one all the way to the left. If this is not your issue, please reach out via our website for further assistance. A video will help. Thank you.

    I am picking mine up next week. Does the manual indicate which speed I should set the dial to for a specific brass calibre so that I get proper annealing? I think the big expensive annealers are going to be upset with this cost effective product.

    • @burstfiregunsdotcom
      @burstfiregunsdotcom 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Larry, the page 8 and 9 on the owners manual have instructions on how to set up your torch and anneal. Anneal time will be different with each case and caliber, due to different metal composition, thickness, etc. depends on the level of consistency you want to achieve, each Calibers, and even different headstamps of the same caliber may require different settings. Don’t hesitate to reach out via email or chat for further assistance 👍 Here’s the download link: drive.google.com/uc?export=download&id=1Udufwx0et3AvjG2Y65S2c1h9v-L2__Oh

    So that's annealed before sizing? The variation in tension by 1/1000" would stay the same if resized without annealing but then annealed would the consistency of the neck tension improve? I've got a bucket of brass that was all ready to prime and load waiting for my new Burstfire to arrive. Should i anneal and then resize again?

    • @burstfiregunsdotcom
      @burstfiregunsdotcom 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi. Yes, always anneal before sizing, to ensure consistent sizing results. Yes, in this video we demonstrated brass that has been work hardened, and the inconsistency in the neck tension of annealed vs not annealed cases on two different headstamps. The batch that was “properly” annealed had consistent and accurate neck tension. The 0.002 expander mandrel was used, and that’s the result you should expect. The others not annealed went through the same dies and process, but results were inconsistent. As for the batch that has already been prepped, depending on the condition and brand of the cases, I may or may not, personally. If I were using only once fired Peterson or Lapua, I may skip it. More than once fired without annealing would re-process. Any other headstamp I personally would anneal and resize because I simplify don’t have confidence they are consistent and will produce the result/performance I, personally, would expect from my loads. Hope this helps!

    I like this machine, and the short case ramp is a easy improvement. A touch of Genius. I have issues with 357 mag with it. The rim of the case will be behind the wheel, and the tip of the ramp will engage the case while its still locked in, before it can drop free. Maybe a shortened short case ramp? I dunno, not a engineer. I'll be happy to test for ya, loading lots of 256 winchester magnum, annealing lots of 357 brass. EDIT: I did try the big slot wheel, a 2nd case will jam between the end of the ramp and the lip of the slot in the wheel.

      Hi, thanks for the feedback! We also replied to your email to assist! It sounds like the feed ramp is placed too high and in the way. Just need to adjust it slightly downwards. A good tip is to set the tip of the feed ramp touching around the primer pocket area. We have not had any issues with 357 mag. Send us a email with video would be best. Happy to send a personalize video demonstrating proper set up. Of if there is an issue, let us assist in addressing it and fix. Thanks again! We will wait to hear back from you via email 👍

    I just ordered a set of your primer pocket reamers and uniformers, using a go/no go gauge I have to separate my 223 brass for only fit but depth to get a uniform fit for primers, .110” seems to be on the money, looking forward to try your products. The Lyman uniformer takes several passes to get my desired depth. Question, will these tools hold up to heavy use? Thanks, great video. Oh, I had already ordered a set of Brownells but I wanted a set to use on my prep center.

    • @burstfiregunsdotcom
      @burstfiregunsdotcom 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey Luther, first of all, thanks for your support and business. We greatly appreciate it! As for if they stand up to heavy use, you bet it does! As reloaders ourselves, we were frustrated with every vendor out there sourcing these prep tool bit from China, most made undersized, difficult to use, and don’t last very long. We set our goal in creating dimensional correct tools, that will stay sharp under heavy use, and most importantly, made in house! Most on market will last about 1k. We have over 50k cases on our reamer and still sharp and going strong. You be the judge how long yours will last since everyone’s definition of “dull” is different. They are covered under lifetime warranty. If it ever gets dull, send it back to us and we’ll send you a new set.

    Hello, My friend purchased your annealer and it is excellent… bravo!… great product. I have an EP2 which I am happy with but I really appreciate your hopper feed. One thing baffles me though… why incorporate a case prep into it?? Most people in the market for an annealer will already have a case prep unit. My friend will literally never use the case prep part of this annealer. Would it not be better to separate the case prep and sell it as another product?… you could expand to a 3 product line Annealer only Case prep only Annealer+ case prep Cheers

      Hi. Thanks for your inquiry! Our goal has always been the same. To give customers their money’s worth. The best value without sacrificing quality. I would say many, if not most of our customers use both prep center and annealer, and see the value in having both while only paying for the price of one. We have also spoken to countless customers that tells us they ended up returning their recently purchased prep center, or selling their prep center on used market. The unit is $290. Think of the prep center as a FREE add-on. Use it not, it’s free 😉. No plans to offer them separately at this time.

    You need to mention what happens if you over anneal. Some machines only allow ten seconds max. I went for color on some 300 win mag. My setting was at 20. Color looked great. Brass had weak necks. Ruined one hundred cases. My fault. Lesson learned. A guide on settings would be nice.

    🎉 I ran around 350 or so 6BR cases in one sitting after receiving mine. I must say this is quite simply the best way you could have possibly solved this concern from your customers! I did notice that for some reason it did tend to move around some after I had done around the first 200-250 cases I had to use a long screwdriver to push it back into position. And I did have a few cases that when they dropped into place they fell completely out of the annealer into my drop pan, so I had to make sure I was paying attention for that so I could add them back to the feeder.

    • @burstfiregunsdotcom
      @burstfiregunsdotcom ปีที่แล้ว

      Have not heard or personally experienced cases tipping over with 6BR or other similar length cases. But here’s a simple solution. What many don’t realize is the front feet on the bottom of the machine is tilt adjustable. A quick turn or two will solve that problem of yours 😉. We have heard of some cases of customers tipping over 300 win mags. In all cases; we try to replicate it in the shop using both the customer’s machine AND their brass (+ ours as well). Not once were we able to replicate the issue in the shop. All of them do swear their table is leveled 🤷‍♂️. The adjustable feet solved the few customers problems. If any one ever needs a thicker / bigger wheel we do have them upon request.

      They are rubber o rings, but will be replaced with silicone in the near future. They rotate perfectly, but it is important both the o ring and brass is free of lube. Some customers don’t realize their cleaning media are pre conditioned with polish. If that’s the case, simply anneal before cleaning.
