Turning America into walkable cities one step at a time.
Turning America into walkable cities one step at a time.
Witness the Rapid Transformation in Miami’s 5 Most Gentrified Neighborhoods
We explore the most gentrified neighborhoods in Miami. Some of these before and after photos via Google street view are astonishing.
Gentrification occurs when there is a substantial gap between the current value of a place, and its potential value. More capital is invested into the neighborhood and the type of people who live there change over time.
A positive aspect of gentrification is that neighborhoods become much more dense with improved infrastructure like bike lanes and public parks. Who doesn’t love a walkable city?
A negative aspect of gentrification is the potential displacement of current residents due to rising property taxes and house prices. Where is all the affordable housing?
I feel like most people just think of South Beach when they hear Miami. I know I had that perception before visiting back in 2019.
But it definitely has a lot more going on - there are over 25 different neighborhoods in Miami proper. all with their own distinct flavor.
Miami has been all over the news with several different corporations moving their headquarters to the city. But it’s always been a haven for “snowbirds” from the Northeast.
Gentrification has accelerated in Miami in large part thanks to Miami21.
This new form-based zoning code's purpose was to direct the city toward transit-oriented, pedestrian-friendly growth, and away from disjointed, car-centered development.

Top 10 Streets That Should Permanently Ban Cars & Become Fully Pedestrianized

Although the United States has a few good examples of fully pedestrianized streets already like Church Street in Burlington, VT State Street in Madison, Wi 16th street Mall in Denver, CO We should have soooo many more. Why the Upper West Side is the best neighborhood in New York City
มุมมอง 36Kปีที่แล้ว
New York City, especially Manhattan, is very walkable and you can easily live without a car. Basically the only 15 minute city in the United States. But a neighborhood in New York City that has remained relatively unchanged since WW2 is the Upper West Side. With Timeless arc...
America’s Best Bike Rides via Protected Bike Lane

As more cyclists take to the streets, bike lane infrastructure is an important part of a city's transportation. They provide a safer way to travel for cyclists in cities. These are things we cyclists have to think about. As mu...

The actual Clifton is much cooler than the "Clifton" that appears in this video.
I must comment that that target is indeed not “clutch” but rather “never stocked”
Nice video! I love it how you managed to make a video about a city without actually filming there, and it looks good :)
Cities evolve, people get screwed, oh well, whatever.
In other words, they moved out the non tax paying residents. They all moved to Southern Maryland and that is the new ghetto.
Not to forget Union college in Schenectady
Try Alexandria VA
DC has become one of the most expensive metro areas in which to live. I lived there for a decade in the pre-gentrified mid-70s to the starting-to-gentrify in the mid-80s and already people were upset about the rising rents. Anything West of Connecticut Avenue was going to be at least twice as expensive as its eastern counterparts. The places where I lived--DuPont Circle, Logan Circle, Mount Pleasant and Adams Morgan are now untouchable. I loved the city, but it's a financial sacrifice to live there.
You can get any type of food in Boston and the seafood is far better in Boston than Barcelona. If you want Spanish food Barcelona for sure but overall for variety yeah not close. Pizza is awful in Barcelona and Italian food as well
I have a love hate relationship with the new miami
I pay for my 125 cc scoter 30 EUR insurance per year (Aprillia sr gt) and for my car 1200 EUR per year. Each of them,
Upper West Side, also known as the Upper Left Side, the intellectual heart of NYC and, frankly, the USA. There's no place like home!
I live in New York-- it is super glamorous until you have to take the subway.... that's why I only have my driver take me in my Bentley.... I would never subway its dangerous after the Adams administration <3
do not visit riverside park.... we dont need more tourists... its locals only please.... you can stay in central park south please <3
I live in upper east side and my belongings are stored on the upper west side.... so.... please stay away <3 we only want luxury <3
411 West End Ave. was home for my childhood. the Natural History Museum a regular playground. Zebras the local market smaller than it is today. I totally agree with you. There are great hotels as well I always stay nthere when I go back.
It’s a great neighborhood. The park, plenty of restaurants, Broadway not far away, the Macy’s parade comes through there, it’s great.
A massive 100 mile largely road separated bike/ walking loop is being built in Cincy called crown. In addition to that, there is an ordinance enacted that require all repairs to roads to include the rules outlined in “complete streets” give it a look. I think Cincinnati will be a rising star in urban development and opportunity. I’m moving back next year, I miss it a lot.
Fredneck😂
Watching from the Netherlands, I wonder if one still sees evidence of the presence of the Dutch? After all, the Dutch established New Amsterdam in 1626, and it later became New York. Albany was known as Beverwijck. Until the mid-20th. century, many people still spoke a variation of Dutch throughout this area.
Hello from Albany! The Dutch stamp is very much still upon the area! When I was a child we spent a year on our state’s local history and a great deal of the time was spent on Dutch influence. Additionally many water bodies, towns and the occasional school mascot still have Dutch names.
@@eggdung Thank you for the response. Does one see much "Dutch" architecture?
@marcelmoulin3335 Not much remains from that time. The Dutch influence can be seen in place names (e.g. Rensselaer, “kill” often found in place names denoting a stream or creek). Family names still have a Dutch feel as well.
Are you going to do any more videos? I realized it's been a year since this was posted.
Cincinnati is held back by its complete lack of rapid transit, especially from the suburbs into the city
Have you done any research on locations that are specifically best for folks who are visually impaired? Thank you!
Never been, but hoping to go someday. Is central park crawling with homeless people? Seems like it would be.
City is growing but some peoples pay remain the same even with the increase in food, rent, gas and insurance prices
Warning warning warning. Walking anywhere in albany could get you killed or robbed or accosted by drug addicts. Please look at the crime statistic. We are in the top 10 lol, at least we got a score for something. If you are harmed you will get no help from police as they have been castrated by the Mayor,!!!!!!!!!!
Albany NY is ruled over by NYS government workers. Crime is high in this region. So government worker commute in and then immediately go back home. Why should i know? Im one of them and im literally sitting on my lunch break typing this out. There's some but not much to do in Albany and the surrounding areas. Meaning once you have done it all, you think that there is nothing to do and be bored. Clinton park halfmoon suburbs are the suburbs to be apparently and that's where i grew up and still live. Again not much to do, but plenty food restaurants and grocery stores. With Interstate 87 running in the middle, it's just a giant service area. For the most part, the area is affluent for two reasons....nys government workers and Saratoga race track. There's also global foundries in Malta that moved in a couple years ago.
I also forgot to mention that NY is a HIGH taxed state.
It's pronounced Ar Vad Uh -- the second A in Arvada rhymes with cat.

sbojkcuf yenomkkccuuff !!!!!!!!
Check out Wheeling West Virginia someday.
Try Cumberland and Hagerstown Md someday.
I’m an Albany native and living in Troy for the past 20 years. I have been living car-free for the past 14 years. I walk and cycle most places and the CDTA (transit system) has amped up its game to include bike/ebike rentals and electric cars and you can get to most places in the Capital Region 1 to 2 buses. I still attend church in Albany and ride the bus there every Sunday. It’s affordable and from my neighborhood in South Troy it’s a quick hop to the Empire Trail to Albany and west to Schenectady and the Erie Canal ride that will take you to Buffalo. Geographically we are within reach of the Adirondacks and the Catskills and so many great historic places, museums, music/theater venues, etc.
Don't forget Chelsea, Revere and Everett, there is a lot of new developments
I used to live in Carrollton from 1988 to 2014 and Frederick Heights from 1985 to 1988 Amber Meadows from 2014 to 2016 and Carrollton from 2016 to 2021 and Little Brook Apartments from 2021 to currently I am still single in Frederick Maryland and I have always lived in Frederick Maryland.
And you have seen me in Frederick Maryland for almost 40 years now since May 22nd 1985 at 9:55 Am my first minute in Frederick Maryland.
The courthouse you showed was not built in 1862!😂
Affordable to WHOM??? Residents are concerned about law. This vid really gives MUCH fluff, and is poorly not so accurate -- just opinion.
It looks like it sucks to live there. The apartments around the national stadium look like college dorms next to a college stadium. They're kids living 5 people to a one bedroom studio apartment. They made DC look like an idiot college town. It' looks like MTV rock the vote. It used to be cool when black people lived there making gogo music banging on buckets and trash cans. Now it's the Ikea Furniture Capital of the world. It doesn't make sense. When thinking of DC you used to think of antiques and food like the fish market in old town alexandria across the river. Now it's goofy. Now Napoleon dynamite took over and it has a goofy political vibe like a high school vote for pedro election. There used to be a higher sense of education. Not like harvard business schools, or harvard law school because those are kind of asshole educations. Smithsonian, and PBS was high art and high education. DC used to have the wholesomeness of PBS. There used to be a dignity that goes beyond money or laws. There was a natural sense of what the right thing to do is, and doing a good job.
a $500 dollar a day lifestyle in nyc!!
Anyone complaining about Gentrification could have bought before 2016 pretty cheaply. We bought on H Street making under 50K total. CNBC making it showing folks under 50 also buying in Shaw.
Many smaller cities keep the street cars/ subways OUT of the universities because they do not want people from the inner city to have easy access to the university and the adjoining neighborhoods.
I lived on 106 and Amsterdam Ave in the 80s and love having access to local and express trains and a plethora of shops and restaurants. BUT I also lived in Brooklyn Heights years ago and boy has that area blossomed!! The Promenade is now an afterthought with the opening of Brooklyn Bridge Park. Just amazing what they've done to that neighborhood and what they are continuing to add! If there was any neighborhood I would call home for the rest of my life it would be Brooklyn Heights. However as I got older I've come to love Bay Ridge Brooklyn. Ironically it was an area I absolutely avoided like the plague and now as I've gotten older, I love it! 😊❤ Thank you NYC.
Great video! underrated
Lols, gross
hahahaha i think you caught footage of me walking along H street!
3:45 and 4:38 nooo why do they allow this?!
What’s so interesting about a lot of this redevelopment…it’s that it’s simply development. A lot of these places were simply empty land…..after having been destroyed in the 1960s
The revitalization was needed but a lot of the architecture is just plain ugly. Boston does a much better job of medium density housing with out sacrificing design
Great video. But it fails to mention some of the major gentrification that took place on the North Side several decades ago. The west side of Old Town is now a very nice area to live in, but was once quite dangerous due to nearby Cabrini-Green. And before the 1960's, Lincoln Park was a run-down Puerto Rican neighborhood, and it gradually gentrified into the posh neighborhood it is today.
