I think Balatro well deserved it, it fundamentally nails the soul of what videogames are all about, it's a throwback to a simpler era, Pacman and Space Invaders, when the goal of games was just to be quick instant fun, not Hollywood productions digitally recreated. I think it's important to always keep one such game in the nominations to keep developers grounded in what gaming really fundamentally is at it's core.

I love rogue likes and multiple times have tried to get into Balatro But as a poker player I can't for the life of me separate the pokerness of the cards, this alone I believe is why I can't enjoy the game, oh well I guess I have some more time to try and beat Elden Ring

I have zero interest in poker, like I didn't even know what a flush was... I got this game a couple days ago because I heard it had a similar feel to Inscryption (Act1) which is one of my favorite games. Oh buy have I sunk some time into this game. 10/10

@8:14 100%! Everytime I make twice or three times the boss blind in the ante before, I always end up facing "the wall" or "very big blind" after. Everytime I have a greaaat joker synergy going, I end up getting the boss blind that deactivated a random joker every hand. 100% the game analyzes decks and moves, and acts accordingly. I now always try to switch my strategy mid game (start with a straight, full house or flush deck and end up with a four of a kind or straight flush Strat for the endgame)
