Adding Multiplayer to Ratchet & Clank 1 | Devlog
This is my first devlog about modding Ratchet & Clank to add online multiplayer. I show how far I've come, what challenges I had to overcome to get here and where we go in the future.
The mod is available for installation right how, however you should note that it's still lacking a lot of features, so the game modes available are limited at the time. You can find install instructions at:

Why not grab the online features from future games
Because that's not how this works, you can't just "take" the online features from other games, even if they use the same-ish engine.

Can this work for pcsx2??
It's significantly harder to make it work with the PS2 version. The original version of the game has a level loading system that dynamically loads level and game object code from disc and into game memory. On PS3, for security reasons, dynamically loading code isn't allowed. All the code must be loaded in when the game starts, and it is never allowed to be changed without a game update. Because of this, the PS3 version works very differently when it comes to code. This also happens to work to our benefit and makes modding the game much easier. Ratchet HD on RPCS3 typically runs better than Ratchet on PCSX2 on most PCs as well. But I agree the HD version is a downgrade from the original in many ways.
Nearly a quarter of a century later and this game still beats 99% of games made today

What a legend! Quick question, is it possible to take for example Rachet Deadlocked (I had the Spanish version, called Ratchet Gladiator) since it has already co-op multiplayer module existing, kinda re-using it in the R&C 1?
Good question! I haven't looked into it, but intuitively it wouldn't work out. The engine itself evolved a lot from RaC1 to Deadlocked, so even if you had the source code for the games, it would likely be a lot of work to do that. These features are so baked into many different parts of the code that there's no cleanly separable module that you can just port from one game to the other. Ultimately, it's easier to just recreate it from scratch.

What do you mean "vanishes"? There's a link to a Discord community in the description as well as a link to a web page explaining how you can install the multiplayer mod right now for emulator and PS3.

I also loved the lines with the vendor. "Hey there fuzzball" it made the vendor feel more unique and interactive. Even had some world building id have loved to have met him like we did the helpdesk lady. A shame the future games got rid of this
I just started searching about Ratchet mods, awesome job I would love to see more work on this. Especially being able to play the entire game playable. Good job :)
Thanks! Hopefully we'll get to a place where we can do full game co-op playthroughs, but for now we're focusing on other enjoyable multiplayer experiences.
@@bordplate. Also, I know this is alot harder, but imagine merging the og games together, like Fallout TTW, I love those styles of games as a coop game. Probably never happen but it would be cool

Some of it's already live right now, there's some info in the video description. It's still pretty bare bones, but it's possible to connect today if you wanted to.

Sorry for the stupid stupid question, but how it is possible to mod a game, I mean the code source is avaiable because someone leaked? or is not necessary?
Not a stupid question at all! We don't have the source code, and it has not leaked anywhere as far as we know. But any program runs code on your computer in the form of machine code. We can read and try to understand parts of this machine code and make changes to the program. It's much more difficult than just changing the original source code, but through reverse engineering we can find the right places in the machine code and change it so that it does what we want to instead. So in this case, I've changed the machine code for Ratchet & Clank so that I can add a lot of my own code.

This sound great but I seriously gotta ask, doesn't it make more sense to get Ratchet and Clank Deadlock running on two seperate instances screens since the game already has splitscreen coop?
Maybe, but I didn't want to do that. Also there is a project that aims to do that.
irrelevant to this, idk how popular it is to mod the HD remaster trilogy, but are there any mods that fix the issues that were present in the ps3 version alone? like missing poligons, eyelids clipping, and helmet size in rac 2 and 3?
I'm also a programmer can I help?
