Another piece from the same concert in 2020; the tranquil prelude to La Catedral, one of the most iconic classical guitar pieces of all time, written by the Paraguayan composer Agustín Barrios Mangoré. This timeless little piece transports to the grandeur and serenity of a cathedral, for a sense of awe, wonder, and reflection. I used to really love this piece, but completely forgot about it for many many years, until the first covid-lockdown came along and I finally dug it up again, reinterpreting it for this online concert. Since it wasn’t quite a cathedral-like setting on this occasion, it ended up a more quiet and ‘close’ version than normal perhaps, but which I quite liked in the end, and hopefully transferred ok through the screens of the audience far away.
