Anything with rust is a NO for me! Rust just gets worse fast over time.

If you look closely at "every" spot where paint starts peeling on these botched Chevy paint jobs there is a small lime green pit at the center that is actually in the metal and must be sanded all the way down to. Looks like GM was sabotaged by a disgruntled worker or act of terror by China. Either way GM are cowards that failed when standing behind their product. Bam!

Entire fleet of White Chevy Vans with botched paint jobs. I have learned a 4000 psi pressure washer is the only way to expose and remove all weak paint and never purchase another Chevrolet ( worthless will not stand behind their product) Ever.

I never got to drive a truck with a KTA 600 19 liter, but I did drive a number of 15 liter Cats. I love the old Cat motors, but would love to drive a 19 liter Cummins too. I love those old trucks! These new auto shifting clean burning trucks are just flat boring!

Mines not smoking but does go through a little oil. I'll have to open up that valve cover and take a look. Engine has 240,000+ and I've never had the valve covers off.

Nice job on altering the truck. Can't go wrong with an FLD, it's just always been a stable platform. An FYI - back in the early 2000's Freightliner was actively making an effort to transform and re-purpose the sea of guaranteed buyback FLD sleepers into day cabs in a multitude of configurations and wheelbases. They're still out there working to this day.

I'm dealing with the same problem with my 02 silverado. Pressure washed the majority of the flakes off. My truck looks like a pinto horse now.

2006 5.3 monte carlo ss - G.m. sells a carbon busting chemical by the pint --- sorry dont remember name - been 40 k ago & did this procedure at 110k engine had the typical fouled plugs and excessive oil useage - reserch yousel for plugs that foul , remove battery cable -- remove typical fouled plugs --- be amazed how bad they look , use a funnel & hose that fit in plug hole follow directions for amount and time to let chemical set -, maybe 15 mins ? must be very harsh stuff , LEAVE THE PLUGS OUT ---- after setting turn engine over to purge the nasty liquid - i recommend a peice of cardboard placed abover engin to keep the chemical off paint & wash off as soon as completed - use your judgement , rear plugs are Bitch - but doable . no recuring issues going on 40 k --- i burn low octane fuel too . maybe replace all plugs & wires if over 100 k . worked for me .

I did as you had shown and put the valve cover back on using the old gasket but it's leaking oil now and I'm thinking I probably over tightened the bolts.

For you people seeing that milky looking oil on the covers. Keep in mind the issue with theses valve covers is the oil drainages AND the cover design creates condensation.

My 11 Silverado is doing this same thing but it started and got about 3'x3' on the hood in less than a wk. I was driving and it just started flying off on the interstate. I think it is something to do with the Summit white, that's the only color I have seen peel this bad.

I did this fix on my 05. It was a easy job. Quit smoking by the end of next day. Smoke was decreased by 70% at first start up

My and my brother’s 2005 Chevy vans have this same problem. He had his all respected. I’m still waiting for all the paint to fall off. 😂
