    I'm from the UK, so this history was helpful, thank you. I find the world a bundle of contradiction. It says in the bible there is no man or woman, slave or master, nor gentile or Jew, for all are one in Chrsit Jesus. If this was really the focus, and really understood, I believe every aspect of our lives would transform as our minds do also. Slavery still exists, and many systems which have been normalised rob people of their will, freedom, and personal right to choose. This makes my skin feel like it has to be cut from the inside out. I don't understand why freedom isn't valued - or why it is implied as if people are free today when their behaviours and lives are governed by systems that act as masters insteaf of people. I am grateful for this sharing, and wish you are as well as you can be whenever and wherever you are. Thank you for doing what you do; I feel quite deeply through these videos and appreciate that people make such content.

  • @jenna2431
    @jenna2431 ปีที่แล้ว

    One must define "spirituality", though. Is that some feeling of awe or reverence about something or someone? That's an emotion, aka hormones. And just FYI, humans are known to pump more dopamine and oxytocin in groups, especially those with coherent behaviors such as singing (which is why MLMs and political rallies and grocery stores use songs), because those were the tribal hormones that keep the executive function quiet and enables buy-in to leadership's programs without contest. Or is spirituality the self-reflective processes of thinking about regret over the past, making plans for the future? The inquiry into the unknowns of "What happens when I die, like I see other people doing?" That's cognitive function and threat detection. So what is this alleged spirituality? That's the essential first question to figure out.

    BEHOLD, PONDER, UNDERSTAND: The Gospel of Thomas is not in the canonical Bible. However, it may be an extremely early Gospel. It claims to be authored by Jesus himself (Perhaps, just after the resurrection. See Acts 1:3 and the Thomas Prologue). Thomas also purports to have been scribed by Jesus' brother Jude Thomas, who probably also wrote Jude, the second last book in the New Testament. This would mean that Thomas is unique being not only written by Jesus the author and finisher of our faith but is also an early apostolic writing having been scribed by Thomas. This Gospel also appears to be the foundational scripture underpinning the other apostolic writings found within what is often called the New Testament. For those interested in a more in-depth examination regarding how this "Testimony of Jesus", which is the spirit of prophecy, inspired the apostolic writers to pen their own letters and Gospels of the New Testament... for these diligent ones and even for myself, it may be helpful to type a search for - "the original gospel authored by Jesus Christ" takethescroll. Blessings on your search for truth.

    Hello everyone, While these comments are directed mostly to my congregation who may watch this video, they are also important for those of you who aren't member to watch as well as they correct an error I made in my sermon yesterday. It might seem minor, but it really puts the translators of the Revised Standard Version of the Bible in a bad light and I don’t want to do that. I mentioned that the word “homosexual” did not appear in any English translation of the Bible until 1952 when the RSV translators, led by Luther Allan Weigle, mistranslated the two Greek words malakoi and aresenokoitai as “homosexual” in 1 Coritnhians 6:9. When Mr. Weigle learned of the mistake (through an exchange of letters with a seminary student) he agreed and admitted the mistake. However, he and the translators had just signed a contract that no changes would be made to the text for ten years, so legally, their hands were tied. During that time, other translations were being prepared including the New American Standard Bible, The Living Bible, and the New International Version, and the translators and editors of those versions all used the RSV as the basis for their translations and kept the word “homosexual” in their text. It has since created all of the problems surrounding one mistranslated word. And its important to note that the Revised Standard Version has since been changed to readthe following: “Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither the immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor sexual perverts…” Admittedly, a rather broad interpretation, but certainly better than “homosexual.” There have been numerous translations of the Bible since then and some don’t use the word “homosexual” while some do. Others use other words which may or may not hint at the word “homosexual.” It looks as though the Pandora’s box of confusion over the word has been opened for good and the evils of ignorance, bigotry, and hate have all been let out. But just as the last thing let out into the world after Pandora opened that box was Hope, we can have Hope that by educating people about this error we can defeat the forces that want to continue to oppress our LGBTQI family and friends. But let me conclude by sharing with you my favorite translation of this verse from my favorite version of the Bible called “The Message” translated by the late scholar Eugene H. Peterson: 1 Corinthians 6:9 “Don’t you realize that this is not the way to live? Unjust people who don’t care about God will not be joining in his kingdom. Those who use and abuse each other, use and abuse sex, use and abuse the earth and everything in it, don’t qualify as citizens in God’s kingdom.” Whatever your notion of god or the concept of “god’s kingdom” is (I prefer the term Beloved Community,” I think this translation makes the more appropriate and important point that *anyone* who uses and abuses others in any manner, anyone who uses and abuses sex (as, for example, a way to control and hurt people,) anyone who uses and abuses the earth and its resources are not part of that Beloved Community. That’s our work, though. To try to help them and welcome them in. I hope this clears up the error I made and gives you more information about this really important topic, especially during Pride Month. And thanks for watching! Peace and Light, Rev. Paul

    Thank you for your work and your video. It is rare to find people who will treat these open minded and scholarly. IMHO I believe these verses function perfectly if we make them into component parts of our psyche. re. Carl Jung, Joseph Campbell. They become psychological teachings encapsulated in their local analogs. Man and woman in many teachings from antiquity are analogous to mind and soul. (We know them as conscious and sub-conscious) They are using a hierarchy of terms to describe that process. It could be father son. King and his Kingdom. All hierarchical analogs that can only fit in conscious and subconscious. Not all teachings use husband and wife. They mix it up. In this "interactive psyche, (maybe that's why they call it a living verse?) process we see that we are supposed to self heal by having poor souls. Hebrew for Buddha's, seek emptiness. But we know our demons reside in our unresolved pasts. We go there and presto, this teaching is instantly, psychologically, interactive. They couldn't describe it like this. They didn't know what a brain was but knew what feelings were, how we got them and that we needed to extract ourselves from them. Then flow better in The Tao. Or live in the good Graces of God. They knew C.G Jung's idea later of a collective human psyche was there. The quality of our lives unfold based on the quality of our STORED judgements. What we named and they became. They act out and we gotta fix them. (They make it sound so mysterious on the outside) I think they may have observed hurt people. It would be prevalent. We're animals. Humanity is still hurt and growing bigger. They tried to head that off, but knew the general population would never look inward to forgive their rapist. Or, fill in the blank. Empty out jars, etc would be analogs for that. We look to be emotionally pure as when born, and they try to get us there. Enter the Kingdom of Heaven within as a Child. (Prior to our hurt and judgement) Blessed is the poor in spirit. (Empty of stored judgement) Make the wine bottle new before putting in new wine. We are the Bottle. The old wine is the old way we feel. We can't put a new life in till we resolve the old, etc. Spiritual rebirth means letting go the things we cling to. I believe that is what they were encoding with analogs. One can see the outer, strange sounding verbiage is part of the carrier shell. They seem to be analogs from their culture and time. Wheels turn based on hub or what pulls it. - Buddha and Lao Tzu. Nested teaching? What we hold cycles based on what we hold in the center. Tree grows back if chopped down unless pulling the root. Our life cycles based on what grows in our garden. Unless you resolve the issue. Prometheus liver eaten out and grows back. Pain and repeat - Greek Mythology - Liver was thought to be seat of emotions. His punishment was to suffer this fate due to his wrong doing. Sisyphus - Roll the stone over and over, never get it done. Greek Myth. The same inner teaching is still till there, just in a guilt free package. What you carry inside, keeps coming around, growing back or? The effect of the process on the human psyche is what I look for now. It blows my mind when one turns it inside and used those items as analogous to something. Strip your clothes off and stand on them in the field to see the child of God? We cover our shame, fear and need to strip it off. Spiritually naked gets us to the same place as being empty or poor in spirit. It seems demonstrable, but I have also come to realize, few like this idea. It takes a scholars outlook. Open, Not committed.

    Is accumulating knowledge useful in addition to meditating? I also love learning languages, is that also helpful?

    • @revpauld4447
      @revpauld4447 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Accumulating knowledge is, of course, not only useful but necessary to live. We need to learn those things in life that help us in our relationships, in our jobs and careers, in our spiritual lives, etc. And, yes, learning languages can be helpful. Learning and accumulating knowledge brings us inner satisfaction as well. The danger lies in allowing learning to be ego-driven. What we do with the knowledge we gain and how we use it is as important as gaining it. Knowledge without wisdom can be a dangerous thing. The ignorance that the Buddha spoke of is ignorance of our true nature, our Buddha-nature. All the knowledge that we gain really amounts to nothing if we remain ignorant of that.
