Korn - BLIND (guitar cover and tone recreation)
Guitar cover of Korn - BLIND
7 STRING TUNING - A D G C F A D
Been a fan of Korn since I was around 13 years old and I finally went to see them live last month (August 2024) in London. They didn't disappoint and it inspired me to try and recreate the guitar tones for the mighty song Blind.
I used a great program called Moises to remove Munky and Head's guitar parts and added my own. I tried to get as close as I could to their original guitar tones using the gear that I have at home. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out!
All the gear I used is listed below and the pedal settings are there too.
I hope you enjoy watching, listening or playing along with this one my friends 🤘🏻

What a breakdown ! New subsciber here ! Cheers !
Very, very close. To the extent that without an A/B, I wouldn't have been able to spot any differences. I think Mike's tone has slightly more high-end gain in the distorted parts, and you've got a bit more low-end in general. Great work, though!
@@DeadReckoner thanks so much! You’re absolutely right. I think the high end side comes from that room sound and having all the instruments playing together in that amazing room 👍🏻
@Fitzgerd you've easily earned a sub from me :) I'll have more music stuff on my channel when work allows...

@@daughtersofdivorce6803 😁🤘🏻 I rewatched the morning view sessions many times while researching this. One of the best live performances of theirs 🙌🏻
Your point about the Blues VS Modern High Gain is very interesting. If you watch the rig rundown videos from around 12 years ago his amps are set to the Modern High Gain setting for the distortion channel. I wonder if it is because he started using the Music Mans around that time and it just sounded better with those?
@@bballgod237 that’s one of the things that tripped me up for a while. Everything I read or watched, he was always on the modern mode but anytime I recorded with that, the mid range just wasn’t there. There were some old forum posts I found of people saying morning view sounded like the blues mode so I decided to give that a go and boom, there was a good chunk of the sound! Now live he may always have used the modern mode but for the studio recording of morning view, it’s definitely the blues mode (apart from circles 😁)
@ Such a typical guitarist thing to do too….live = more gain lol Your videos are great man keep it up! I am in the same boat as you and started listening to Incubus way back in middle school (I think you and I are same age) and am obsessed with Mike’s tone. I currently have a Helix setup. I made a really awesome preset a few months ago that sounds damn close to his tone. Would love for you to check it out if you a Helix?
@ 😂 in his defence, for older stuff before morning view, it’s definitely the modern mode so he was probably weighing up what’s more important I guess. Interestingly, I have a hunch that the morning view sessions is using the blues mode. Sounds way more mid rangy than other live stuff but I could be totally wrong there 🤷🏻♂️ I don’t have helix native sadly!

@@ja5304 thanks so much!
Great work! Very nostalgic album to me, haven't listened to it in a while but you captured the vibes perfectly. Altogether I hear a tad more highs in the original and some more fizz on those distorted tones. And the guitars feel too close but that's basically what you say with that room sound. What works well for that imo is "seventh heaven" reverb's ambient modes - they are not the kind of super obvious reverbs but just add a bit of space and depth to sounds. There's also a free plugin called magic7, based on the same reverb. Would be interesting, if that helps with these tones. But cool stuff there and great video altogether!
@@rectangulardots thanks so much! Yeah those extra highs and fizz were the thing that was driving me the most crazy. On wish you were here and blood on the ground, you can hear it the most I feel. Thanks for the reverb recommendation, I’ll look into that 👍🏻
@@Fitzgerd Yeah but I don't think it's a big deal. I was just particularly listening for differences, still really great work!
@ really appreciate that, thank you! I honestly love the feedback, as it’s exactly what I think too. I eventually had to let it go and just put the video out otherwise I’d be tweaking forever and it still wouldn’t be 100% the same, it’s just not possible with the setup I have 👍🏻
@@Fitzgerd Sure that makes sense. Even with the same equipment in the exact same room and everything, one would still have a hard time getting it exactly the same, so it's impressive that you came so close.

Hey Nick, thank you for taking the time to figure out all the intricacies of Mike's MV tones and to compile it all into this very detailed video. You're a legend! This is my ultimate goal, to replicate the MV sound minus the reverberation of the big room in the mansion unfortunately haha. Like you said, the only thing we can't replicate is the sound of that big room and the mixing and mastering that produced the end result of the 2001 album. Nonetheless, wow!!! You have the tone pretty much 99.9% there, it's astonishing. I applaud you for this video, I will be saving it and coming back to watch it again and again as I work on recreating these MV tones as I slowly work towards saving and purchasing most of this gear, the amp is going to be the hardest to find i think. I'll be sure to download the IR packs as well, thanks for that man. You have so much knowledge mate, all self taught I take it? A true Einziger connoisseur. You're not only helping other fellow guitarists, you're also broadening the audience and getting more people into Incubus. Respect to you my friend.
@@AshtonBobowski as always Ash, thanks so much for your kind words! Appreciate it mate. I had lessons as a kid and into my 20s but all the recording etc has been my own exploration and mucking around. I still have a ton to learn 😅 Thanks for watching mate!

Nick , I asked you this before . Love how you went through the basics of mikes pedals . But , from the only 3 pedals you chose , where does the distortion, or overdrive sound come from when Mike is playing ???…
@@Erick-f7n it’s from his Tremoverb amps. One is set on the vintage high gain mode so lower gain and the other amp is set on channel 2 (the overdrive channel) on blues mode (apart from Circles, that I’m pretty sure was the modern high gain setting on the amp)
