    School nursing is extremely stressful! You are constantly fighting with admin who believe that they are in charge of the nurse. No boo! Nurses are in charge of nursing. Stay in your lane! There are many unstable type 1 diabetic children that I had close to zero training dealing with. You're responsible for ensuring that the ENTIRE school is in compliance with their shots and physicals, field trips, etc. It's alot of work for one person😢

    I accepted a new grad fellowship for the OR but my dream is labor and delivery ( they wouldn't accept new grads at the hospital I applied to), did you find it challenging to transition from OR to L&D and did you already have bedside experience?

    I left bedside to do CM. I'm ready to go back. Not only do you have to deal with administration throwing you under the bus, patients are mostly unhappy about being discharged from their hotel, ahem, hospital so they threaten CM all the time with bodily harm (last week, someone threatened to put a bullet in my coworker's head, and this is Texas where EVERYONE has a gun). CM are literally the face of the bad guy (my hospital actually posts photos and contact info in each room). And you would be appalled at how many people try to PERMANENTLY dump sick elders in hospital, until you call APS.

    I know this is old but had to comment having worked in OR and L&D (with some ER in there). It really all depends on your personal interests. For me OR was incredibly redundant and boring.. I worked at a level 1 trauma hospital which was huge, so we were all assigned to specific specialties; I was stuck in general surgery/urology (with occasional trauma if I was on-call) and I had to do everything to keep myself occupied (especially during a Davinci case). I also had the worst needle-stick/exposure (HIV/Hep C + patient) due to careless disregard for sharps precaution/zoning. I was pissed and HATED it lol. I quit that job with quickness. After that, I did L&D for 7 years and loved every minute of it. I'm now a "low stress" CM for HR OB ;) No shade at all, it's all what you are into! Glad you found your niche. EDIT* Forgot super important fact; After PEP meds and a year of testing, I never seroconverted from HIV or hep C... thank god!

    Thank you for this video! I’m graduating in 6 months and highly considering OR because I’ve been most interested in it after observing in clinicals. I’m just worried that I’ll lose all my skills taught in school and it might be harder to transition over to different units should I ever want a change. So much to consider!

    You seem like an honest and caring person, thank you for sharing you knowledge. A few quick questions for you, if you can give me some advice please. So I worked as an LPN for 2 years, in long term care and corrections. Long term care was easily the most stressful job I ever done in my life. I literally had panic attacks even on my days off, ended up depressed and qutting. I thought once I finished lpn school my life would get much better and that nursing was for me. Being an introverted person, the very demanding social aspect of nursing drained me very quickly, before quitting nursing I decided to go back to nursing school to get my RN. I just graduated May 2024 and I am waiting to take the NCLEX. I am seriously considering the OR. Do you have to deal with family members? Do you spend alot of time talking on the phone with doctors, families? Just having to make a phone call or answering the phone I get massive anxiety :/. I also thought of working in the ICU night shift but, I don't want to deal with family members at all!

    post partum is easy af BUT the nurses i knew were complaining because they kept getting called off and barely got any hours, unless you're in a hospital where babies are born alll the time. Also being an educator is stressful, most of the professors in my school seemed veryyyy burned out and have horrible attitudes.

    Money is the worst reason to become a nurse. It is a very hard job to be a good nurse actually caring for the patient! Believe me I know this as a 40 year nurse and a patient.

    • @21Pogon
      @21Pogon 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Perhaps. I like what I do and care about the patients, but money was the first and main reason why I went in and why I do it. I used to make 4-6K a month before nursing working less hard but more hours, with nursing I can make far more than I did for those hours I put in. Each to their own, but I am fine with the job (it is like any other out there) but getting paid well is a priority.

    I was a school nurse and loved the job! Pay is on the lower end, great benefits….only downside was government politics, no support from your supervisor and principals who want to tell you how to do your job! I had one during Covid who wanted me risk my medically compromised students health to have them in the same room with someone waiting on the results of a Covid test. Needless to say they were not happy when I said NO and made things very difficult. I chose to go elsewhere😢 I really loved my 👧👦🏽

    hi! I'm a sophmore planning to be BSN-RN one day. How many years does it take to be RN? I'm kinda scared about going to college. To be honest, i have no clue how to get in to college. I've been researching about community colleges here in California but i'm confused🥲 one more thing, how do you apply in hospitals after you become RN?

      depends! if you do your ASN (associates in science in nursing) then you can become a registered nurse in 2 years. If you go for BSN (bachelor in science in nursing) then it requires 4 years. Im currently studying in a university to get my BSN so that I can go for a higher specialty. it all depends on what route you wanna go for :)

    I work in the OR, great video and all true. The biggest thing is you don’t have “nursing” skills. So idk if it’s just my OR but I’m feeling very unfulfilled because there’s no direct patient care, I’m a new grad and we weren’t trained in doing IVs or foleys…it’s starting to become a major concern for me because like you said I miss actually being a nurse. Rather than just finding supplies and plugging stuff in. Again maybe it’s just my hospital but the lack of critical thinking and no skills esp as a new grad is concerning to me ..planning my next moves like you did!

    I started scrubbing and I love it so far. It’s mostly been shadowing a surgical tech and doing things here and there but I like it a lot. I also got to assist today and it was pretty cool.

      I have a question it would be great if you could help me , Can both surgical techs and RNs assist surgeons in surgery? So What is the difference? If RNs want to become scrub , Do they need to certification or sth?

      Hi! So to answer your question, both jobs do assist surgeons during surgery. If you become an OR nurse you do not need a certificate to scrub, this will be part of your training. Circulators can circulate and scrub. Scrub techs are only allowed to scrub. Major difference is compensation and education.
