    Post WWII the 2 most popular cars to race on the streets (pre drags) the 40 Ford Coupe V8 and the 40 Plymouth flathead six. The six had serious torque thanks to its long rods. Advancing the timing and mixing in Av Gas made for an unbeatable combo. Too advanced and the engine was trying to compress an already expanding mixture. The heat was insane, heating the rods to bending. "Hot rod" was a put down term. But like all put downs it became "cool".

    Was around some of these early hot rod mods in the 60’s. Rajo and Frontinac were early T head designs for performance also adapting a Model A Crankshaft to the T block was popular. One of these built by Christen J Reimuller Won the Shell Hill Climb.

    Some great footage there. I’ve heard many talk about how crude the A engine was - would run on bio diesel, had such loose tolerances, etc, etc. when researching for doing my own line boring, etc, the engine blueprints spec some datum tolerances(two main cap holes in the block) to within .0005”. That’s pretty tight tolerances for manual machining. The rest are mostly +/- .001-.002. Maintenance in the depression was sus’ but these were NOT crudely built machines. Please keep these videos coming!

    Did your research turn up any convincing evidence regarding whether the red heads shipped from the factory with the Winfield branding painted a different color? I've seen repainted units with the name painted yellow, white, and unpainted (red like the rest of the head). I haven't seen any copies that are clearly the original paint.

    • @alexiskai
      @alexiskai ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BangersModified What I meant is, you had that photo of the yellow and red heads, and you could see that, on the yellow head, the name Winfield was highlighted in red. But on the red head, any highlight paint on the name had worn off, and it just looked like the rest of the head. So my question was, what color did the Winfield factory use to highlight the Winfield script on the red head, if any?
