FDCJ Division Street Arrival 10-31-22
At 1357 on 10/31/22, the FDCJ and Engine 94 were dispatched to a reported porch fire at a vacant home at 509 Lavelle Street. Jeannette Police arrived to find a working fire on the front porch and knocked a good bit of it down with the extinguisher from their cruiser. The Squad arrived at approximately 1400 and firefighters then used a water-can to extinguish the remaining hot spots.
At 1404, Firefighter Steiner was in his personal vehicle on the way to the porch fire when he reported a large fire involving three houses on the 300 block of Division Street (about a block east of the Lavelle Street fire).
A water can was left with a Jeannette EMS supervisor to monitor the first fire for any flare ups and the Squad immediately went enroute to Division Street and was on scene in two minutes from the time of call. This video shows the conditions before the Squad arrived at this now second fire in just 7 minutes. Firefighter Steiner and city police officers can be seen evacuating unaware residents from the houses prior to the Squad getting on scene. The Squad was able to secure a water supply on the way in from the east side of the scene and so was Penn Engine 94 as they arrived from the west side of side of the scene. Fortunately our firefighters with the assistance of several of our mutual aid partners were able to prevent the fire from spreading beyond the three buildings that were involved in the fire upon arrival and no civilian or firefighter injuries resulted from either of these fires.
Anyone who may have information on either fire are asked to contact Jeannette Police or the PA State Police Fire Marshal.

Did that door flying out at the end mean that 1) the volume of flammable gas was increasing and 2) the trailing 'heel' of flammable gas had propagated backward from the source fire (away from the firefighter entrance) and melted the gas lines behind the utility door?

Glad you made a BS profile to stir the pot. First off, my department was chartered as "Fire Department City of Jeannette" long before any of our time (1915 to be exact, when they formed the paid municipal department to replace the volunteer companies that had been in operation since 1889) so it's not about trying to be someone else. As far as the waist straps, there's something you and I agree on and since I was appointed chief a few years back, I've been issuing disciplinary actions for anyone seen not wearing the SCBA safely. Thank you and have a great day!

Then your going to stay in the jump seat. When it comes time for you to start making your own decisions and size ups on the fireground, you can’t do that with a mask on. If all your doing is doing what your told, and that’s it, yeah mask up. But there comes a time when you need to evaluate the conditions. And make your own decisions. Mask up at the door
