      Invasion is not justifiable. You must respect each healthy ecosystem as they are present, and even heal or control other ecosystems if necessary. The earth is in rough shape with all this land being poisoned by 2 billion metric tons of garbage. The Native Americans, my people, would not have let this happen.

    This is circular reasoning you're presenting. “Invasive species” is a colonial social-economic construct. The concept that a species “doesn’t belong” or is “unnatural” or “outcompeting” isn’t based in ecological rationale so much as social judgements. That it depends on a species being “non native” (also a bullshjt term) adds to the flimsiness of it all. One can easily make a case that many species which have been in an area since before the magical threshold of 1491 “outcompete” others - solidago and pinus strobus to name but two in this region. It’s time we move beyond this tired rhetoric and judgement about who is good and bad in an ecosystem and toward a place of recognizing the sovereignty of all species and their role as responses to conditions. Invasion biology comes into existence because we see ecosystems resource-centrically. When relating to our ecosystems without resource value judgements the concept of invasiveness ceases to exist.

      Thankyou; I started working at a Native plant center ; and we had to pull invasive weeds; I’m actually was learning permaculture before this and thought about how we saw “weeds” or plants who are considered nonnative ; we humans often do invasive things ourselves to disturbed and affect ecosystems so I found it hypocritical to completely label nonnatives “ invasive” or dangerous without understanding.

      I mean they were clovers were example and I thought what makes one invasive? It it being no native or what they do?

    • @speedos
      @speedos 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Why should we relate to our ecosystems without resource value judgements? I agree that "native" and "non native" is a nonsensical dichotomy, but I believe species that rapidly take over habitat but provide almost no value to anyone are invasive, and that such a thing can be objectively judged, why not? i have a bunch of weeds in my garden. they wrap around other plants, quickly take over entire growing spots and suck all the nutrients out the soil, bugs don't benefit from them, animals don't eat them. why should i not call these invasive, pull them out, and throw them into my compost? Where did you get the idea that "invasive species" is a colonial construct? - Colonialists are literally invasive.

    • @wholesystems
      @wholesystems 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@speedos I am not saying we should not value resources in ecosystems, I certainly do. But the current zeal for the native/invasive binary rides alone on that, usually without even bringing it up and saying it’s actually ecologically-based.

    • @wholesystems
      @wholesystems 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@speedos nothing sucks all the nutrients out of soil but a bulldozer or over irrigating. Nothing is not eaten by other species except perhaps some synthetic materials for a period of time. This is nativist zeal only to even suggest such extreme ideas.

    Nonexistent is what they are, it is just humans projecting their xenophobia onto animals and plants, even though they would be invasive species by their own logic because they did not stay in africa. even when animals are introduced and not migrate due to old habitat becoming uninhabitable i fail to see how it is the animals' fault

    • @Dasple
      @Dasple 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That's literally what invasive species stand for It's a man-made problem and it's our fault that these animals is an invasive species That's just not true Yes human originate from Africa but we already migrated into Asia and Europe about 50 thousand years ago and into the American about 13 thousand years ago through a land bridge if you said that human is an invasive species when human is first arrived at these place I can understand that but we already exist here long ago, the animal around us already know the existence of us, some if them even see human as food Not to mention that human move into those place themselves, they did not get transport into north America or Australia by alien or some other species so even if we ignore everything I have said human is still not an invasive species It's not the animal fault, no one ever said that it's their fault, it's the stupid "Animal lover" that keep releasing pets into the wild fault, they're just trying to survive, no one want to die but if we keep letting them survive the whole ecosystem might collapse
