Lambretta Clutch and Kickstart issues on rebuilt engine
มุมมอง 8043 หลายเดือนก่อน
A bit of a double edged sword on this vlog, I was expecting the wrong Clutch pate would need to be replaced and didn`t bank on the kickstart shaft pushing out of its Circlip and needing to be reworked, All in all under 1 hour to complete the fix and another Lambretta engine ready to go back into the scooter.
Lambretta series 2 update
มุมมอง 4743 หลายเดือนก่อน
After taking the series 2 off the road over the winter , I used the time to do a few upgrades for this year, the legshields have been repainted along with the rear runners and the headset top. I have now put it together and apart from a nice period rear carrier I am very happy with it and it now should go and stop as needed and with the full wave DC 12 volt lighting and ignition systems complet...

Update on kickstart issues and a suprise when trying the engine , it kicked into life with one prod of the kickstarter, in fact I wasn`t expecting it to work with no setting up and the choke wide open, I had to put my finger over the top where the choke cable goes and it settled down , I am very sure this is going to run lovely and be a good engine now the issues with it have been sorted. watch...

    Having served an engineering apprenticeship and built so many engines and gearboxes for cars, motorcycles and trucks this video is so wrong in general workshop cleanliness, touching, putting stuff down on a dirty bench and using greases and not oil from grease to oil compatibility perspective. I wouldn’t be happy with this rebuild in my workshop.

    • @m1scooterlife259
      @m1scooterlife259 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      In a perfect world ,I would agree, using grease on bearings is the way Lambretta original Service books and films show you how to do it. Making vlogs in Lab conditions is not real world.Most people roll around on garage floors and don't live in Labs, thanks for your comments and if you got anything from the video that's great and my goal.

    Hi mate, recently found your channel and watching the engine rebuild at the moment. Easy to understand and will definitely be doing mine. I wanted to pick your brains, I have a series 3 li 125, I want to put a BGM 195 rt cylinder on it, what carb and exhaust would you recommend on that cylinder? And would it work with leaving gears ect.. as standard? Thanks in advance 👍

    • @m1scooterlife259
      @m1scooterlife259 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Daz, The BGM kit is a great kit , I would change your gearbox to any 150 one, or try different ratios of sprocket and crown wheel, carb upgrade and a BGM 42mm clubman would work well, I would recommend having a look on MB scooters Web site as this is Mark's kit , I know it works well with the Li150 gearing and 26mm Dellorto carb , you would also need an electronic kit ,if you haven't already got one, look at least to upgrade your clutch , even changing the springs can help avoid clutch slip, I have used the AF cassette clutch and setup correctly seems bullet proof. When you have had a look on the MB website feel free to ask any questions you have. Ps Don't forget to upgrade the crankshaft, Darrell Taylor is the best in my opinion and won't cost a leg . Good luck and thanks for taking the time🍺🍺

    Just starting out trying to learn to fix my scoot. Have fixed a couple of things so far, but on the weekend I lost drive when changing from 1st to 2nd. Engine runs no problem but no drive. Not a cable issue top end or bottom end that I can see. Gear selector at the crank case moves when shifting from 1st to 4th, so not a cable issue... so I'm thinking it's inside the case, and wondering your thoughts? It's like it's stuck in neutral? It's an S2 LI150. All the best! Thanks

    Impressed with the fact you can change the boss and reuse a flywheel instead of just throwing it away. I use a casatronic with metal fan. Lasted a few years and many miles before dying. On it's second stator plate but all the rest is fine. A difficult question but which ignition would you recommend?

    • @m1scooterlife259
      @m1scooterlife259 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I use SIL electronic sets, easy to fix and mod for full wave as on my series 2, Scootronics also are good, if you go for an expensive ignition then it's expensive to repair or replace. Some cheap Indian sil copies are very bad and can also not align. I've fitted sil kits since Scooter Restorations brought them in in the early 90's. The boss was £15 from scooter restorations and kept a good sil flywheel in perfect use.

      by the way if the barrel is tighter in the middle could be honing technique . as it spends more time at the end of the bore and less in the middle .... if thats any help

    The engines I've dismantled its often the case that someone has been inside but not replaced everything as it should be ... I just describe it as a bodge up

      I used to ,but you never know the full story , these days I look at it as a mystery and also a learning curve. I started doing my own rebuilds as I found it was the only way to guarantee the parts you bought were put into your engine.

    Before modern cleaners I often used petrol as an engine cleaner. Works great but stings like hell if you've any cuts! My budget never stretched to gloves. Informative vid.

      PPE is a must, you only live once, I do have a parts washer that gets used when there are a few parts to be cleaned.

    Hi mate. I've talked myself into rebuilding a silver special for a mate. I work in the refinishing game mainly.i have worked on lots of engines but for some reason this one has me licked. I'm looking forward to seeing the rest of this build.

      They are simple engines, the problem can be poor quality parts, the new fuel can rot a lot of plastics and seals, also crud up the carb
