The works building no longer exists, although I understand it was moved to Herstmonceux and survived until about 2013. A track diagram is included at about 9 minutes into the 1964 video.

Fantastic memories. It is difficult to understand how Claude and Alan, no doubt with help, managed to build new trams and move a whole tramway to a new location in Devon. I wish Seaton would restore Tram No. 8 to the Eastbourne livery instead of that dull navy colour.

At HKTram, when one track separates into two tracks, there is a VECOM radio-controlled point machine and an Czech Elektroline overhead frog. The radio system identifies the tram about 2 metres before the switch. But when two tracks merge into one track, a spring point machine and a spring frog is used. They don't need to be operated, trams just go pass them directly. (There are still some manual point machines and overhead frogs in depots)

They came from Hendon tram depot in North London. Claude and Allan went there just after it closed, looking to obtain a range of spares and equipment, and managed to obtain two pairs of gates, both of which are now in use at Riverside.

There's something so intensely human about these sun-bleached, slightly ramshackle coastal places which just doesn't exist anymore- shorts and pullovers, ice cream cones and a salt breeze, dad in a tweed jacket, and the family Austin parked nearby. Now everything, the shacks, the shingle and the big sky have been removed, and the developers townscape could be anywhere in Britain. "The shoddy splendours of the new civility."

Like so many others I expect, I rode on the Eastbourne tramway sometime in the 60's, my family lived at the time in Hastings. Having always had a love of all types of railway this was a day out during the holidays. I now live in Dorset an hour away from Seaton and have a ride on the tram when time allows. Excellent video showing the route, unbelievable how much the area has changed, although the route itself is still largely unused.
