Hello
Hello brownsugar, thanks for checking my channel out! I hope you are enjoying the content!
That is slow lol
It gets fast at the end once I show the mower after I fixed it, but yeah that bad pulley was causing so much belt slip that the mower was a turtle lol 😆😂
Just subbed cool content!
Thank you for subscribing! Glad you are enjoying the content! If you have any suggestions, please let me know!
Takes awhile to get the wire feeding just right to your speed. Looks fine. I didn't see alot of broken off wire from getting it stuck so good job. 😂you'll have to drag race it against your dune buggy you just fixed up lol. Hope the studies are going well for you. Paint job looks great, woulda had drips if it had been myself lol. Blessings
Howdy John, its nice to see you again as always! When it comes to the wire feed speed, I had to play around with it a lot to get something comfortable for the voltage I needed. Right now the go kart wouldn't stand a chance, but after I put the bigger engine on it the two machines may be able to compete pretty well against each other 😂. Thank you for asking about how my studies are going, got first semester done and am on break now until the middle of next month. I learned a lot about how to use a rattle can from my dad and my grandma (she used to paint a lot when she was younger). I hope you are doing well and that you have a good Christmas!
That’s what I’m talking about!
Thanks man! I'm working on a project with this engine on it right now! 👀
@ oh that’s sweet!!!
Might need a roll cage if little ones drive it. Looks fun. Great to see you again.
Good thing they won't then! It's a blast, and it's only gonna get faster with the 11 horsepower GX340 I'm going to be putting on it. It's so awesome for me to hear from you again as well and I really appreciate having listeners that still watch my stuff even when I am busy and can't post often. I'm really glad to hear from you John, and hope you are doing well!
This old man's hanging in there lol and still looks for your videos. Ok it's going to get insane fast so consider the roll Cafe for you. Hmm you need a couple of these so you can race someone lol. Yours can just have the little extra on it over the other 😂
Cage not Cafe 😂
@johninthespirit1941 Well, I really appreciate it, and I think it is awesome, and it makes me want to keep making more content because it makes people happy and they enjoy it. This cart has a wide wheel base and sits low to the ground, so I'm not worried about flipping it no matter the speed and power. I might have something lined up for a future episode that I am working on that may make that idea of another machine to race with a reality 👀. You're not wrong, I'll just take the faster one 😂
@@davidsrandr Looks like it drives fast for sure though you might want to have someone film you in the future. Overall pretty good for a home-video sorta video🙂
Rough mower, Great save. Keep up the strong work.!!
Thank you!
I work on them all the time and parts are getting to high to do much to them now 😢😢😮
I know! That's why I keep all the parts engines I can! I feel your pain
That is NOT a Briggs & Stratton mower, They make the engine only.
I always call the mower by the engine. No one cares who makes the deck it's the engine that actually matters. Technically, it's not a complete briggs mower down to every bolt, but it's still a briggs and stratton mower. Same thing as a husqvarna mower powered by a Honda engine. No one cares that it's a husqvarna, they care about the honda engine. Hope this helps! Thanks for the comment!
Great to see you David. Got a sponsor, that's awesome. Another saved from the junk pile. Great job. Enjoyed and thankyou
Thanks John! It's nice to hear from you again. Gotta save as many as I can. I hope to get more videos out soon since I have more time.
hi, please answer me, I'm about to build a gokart with 2 seats, with a vertically transformed Tecumseh engine, having a clutch with an 11 tooth pinion, which traction sprocket do you recommend?
How many teeth do you want for that sprocket? What kind of gear ratio are you hoping to achieve?
Generally I recommend gopowersports.com parts they are quality and have good customer service if anything happens. They are also based in the USA!
That is indeed, a sweet ride🔥🔥🔥 I’d like to build my brother something exactly like this. The design looks amazing and simple. I’d love to see how you did it, even when I’m late cause the video came out a while back 🫠
I wish I could post more often or else there would already be a video out on this... currently in my senior year of High School and taking college classes and track and cross country so I have no time anymore hardly which sucks. When I do have time however I'll try to shoot a video on this
Thanks for the comment!
And last but not least keep eye on the charging system on these bad boys too they too are prone to go out too. If the reading just sits at for example 12.4 volts ECT and not climbing then the charge system not working. Usually in the 13.0-14.0 volts results working. anything over that is over charge and boiling the battery
Yep 100 pecent true! 👍
Also to check see if both sides cylinder are working with out a spark tester is while running spray water from a spray bottle on each side of the exhaust tubes while engine is running.if both produces water steam then they both are working of only one then means you have a dead cylinder. Just another tip
That's a good tip but these cylinders have a combined muffler so probably the best way is to disconnect one of the plugs while it is running, reconnect it, and then disconnect the other one. If the engine dies you have a dead cylinder or a misfire on one of the cylinders. That's what I've always done.
The oppose twin cylinder engine you have on that are prone to ignition coil failure meaning won't start when it's hot. If this happens just replace the ignition coil
I haven't had a problem with this yet but I'll keep it in mind for the future!
Here's another tip brother. When installing inner tubes on the rims/wheels be sure to cover the inside of the rim with duct tape making a liner like a bicycle rim so the rough burs don't slice the tube when inflation. Also on the rim put a hose clamp ⅞" size on the valve stem on the tube to keep it from sucking in when tire gets slack of air
That's a really good idea especially with all the rust I'll be sure to try it out when and if I install inner tubes! The second tip is a really good one as well although I typically use vice grips and a rag 😂😂
The upper rear drive belt belt tensioner will prone to lock up too the sealed center bearing of the pulley will smoke that belt and make the two belts jump in the variable speed pulley and stall the engine. Just another heads up brother I am sure you get tired of hearing from me lol but every little helpful information helps 🤟
That is definitely something very important to note and keep track of, I will certainly keep my eye on it and make sure to properly lubricate that bearing. I don't get tired of your comments they are very helpful and make my job a little easier coming into this build originally blind. Thanks for the heads up and comment!
@@davidsrandrno prob brother 👌glad to be helping you out
@montgomeryward9952 Thank you for all your input and for watching my content I really appreciate it and it has really made my job a lot easier on some things!
When the outer part of the v on the belts wear out it makes it become slower and also the upper and lower needle bearings in that variable speed pulley wear out or become dry can cause issues too along with the rear upper drive belt belt tensioner.
Everything you said is 100 percent spot on I love you comments and tips they really have helped and even if I know something it's still awesome to hear from you I've learned a lot on this build from you and I really appreciate it. For me it was a bad belt and a sized variable speed pulley but it could have easily been any of those as well. Thanks for the comment!
This is pretty rad, i have a horizontal shaft Clinton from 1946-47. It rotates, but i have not gone through to see if it could start.
I agree, these engines are just so cool! Between the story of them, their age, and their rarity, it's really awesome to see and have one. That sounds like a gem you have found, I really hope you can get it running! I always wanted a little mini bike with a old engine, I don't know about you but that's just the first thing I thought of when I read your comment 😂. If you need any help getting or finding parts, or have questions about it you can email me my email is in the description and I'll try and help the best I can. Thanks for watching the video and commenting!
Horses have 15ish horsepower 😂
How does that make sense 😂. But you are most certainly correct. Why do people who make up things do this to us 😂. Thanks for the comment! My channel is small so I really appreciate it!
@@davidsrandr it's no problem thanks for the video bro
@@2sik_UK Your welcome! I hope you enjoy my content hope to have another video out soon!
Good luck with it I’m sure you’ll get it going
Thank you Phillip! Used it to till up an area in my grandmas yard that was full of pesky weeds and it works like a dream. It feels so good to save machines from rotting away in a scrapyard
Great job. Someone could have offered you a hundred bucks if you could fix it and both would have came out on top.
Thanks John! Nice to hear from you again! I know it's just to bad these machines get thrown out for scrap when people have problems with them instead of taking the time to fix what's wrong themselves or having someone else fix it. It's way cheaper to fix then buy new and your keeping more perfectly good things out of scrapyards! But as I've learned we have become a throw away society nowadays. Bet hey, at least I'm here to save as many as I can! Maybe I'll make a side hustle out of it!
Hay David I have the same engine on my David Bradly., two wheel tractor from the early fifties. t's a beautiful thing. I couldn't find a coil or anyone to rewind it. I think your secondary winding is fried. took a two post brigs coil reworked it to fit, runs great. let me know if you need more imfo. they really sound sweet when they are running properly. Good luck.
It does sound off still and I couldn't really dial it I'm when I was trying to adjust it. Runs good for about 15 minutes then not so well which supports your claim of the secondary being fried. I can't imagine having such an amazing tractor those are awesome machines! Hold on to them they are far and few between. There are multiple kinds of the two post coil, which did you use? You've got my curiosity about maybe getting this thing to run better!
I used a 2 leg brigs coil. cut the curved laminations level with the coil then i had to trim a little off each side so the coil slips into the horseshoe. so it will have a 90 degree cut out on each side making sure not to remove too much.a tight fit.. File 2 washers to make the fit into the opening put 2 bolts through the coil with washers and nuts on the rear to hold the coil flush , Its a real tight fit but it works,
That's really clever! I might have to try that soon if I have a spare coil lying around! Thanks for the details Bernie!
The rope pully stops the nut from coming loose,
The pulley has to fit over the nut to lock in and the nut has to be really tight or else the thin metal of the pulley can get behind the gap between the nut edge and the flywheel and knock everything loose. So in short the pulley stops the nut from coming loose IF the nut is tightened tight to begin with. Thanks for the comment Bernie!
Where do you find a frame
I always have an eye out for stuff I'm Interested in on Craigslist and Marketplace, and as you drive down the road or in towns keep your eyes out and if you see one in someone's yard just knock and ask if it's for sale. Although I don't do this often you can also have some good finds in junkyards. This one a relative found for me on Marketplace he knew I was looking for one. Hope this helps!
Got you shared on Gab tc and that was slick idea on getting fuel to her
I really appreciate you throwing my channel out there for more people to possibly find! I thought that fuel pump was slick as well I haven't seen anyone else do that anywhere before. If I added the proper fittings and ran better lines and a better pump I think it would be a really dependable system in the future. Thanks John!
Always great to see you. Great job. Keep on and you'll have enough built up to open a shop and start selling unless you already have been lol. Tc
It's nice to see you to John! I miss uploading and reading your comments. Now that it is summer I can have more time to upload now that school and track is done. I did the best I could with what I had but I think the engine turned out all right. I have a LOT of engines and mowers in storage, if I could find the time to meet people I would be selling right now but I don't so I'll just keep hanging on to them until the time is right. Kinda cool to see them all together and think of all the work I've done. God bless and take care John
@@davidsrandr something to be proud of for sure and something to hopefully share with a future son.
If the right lady comes along maybe haha.
What's the rim bearing size on those front rims?
@mitchellfay5725 Email me and I can send you a pdf of the whole parts diagram for the mower
Is there no oil filter??
No there is not an oil filter on these Briggs opposed twin engines. All of them were this way no matter the horsepower. They use a splash type oil lubrication system so no filter is required as there is no oil pump. These engines were introduced in the 70s and were manufactured until 1999 when the EPA cracked down on emissions standards, causing engines to be mandated to go OHV instead of flathead. Hope that answered your question!
@David's R&R it does NOT as I looked everywhere for it and could not find one. I picked mine up for 50 bucks today and it's in grate shape. Just need to clean out the carb and see why the taillights don't work. Thanks for the input
@@mitchellfay5725 SOME of them had oil filters and pumps, but they were pretty rare. 50 bucks is an outstanding price for one of these gems. Hope you get it running! If you have any other questions or wanna talk you can email me my email is in the description. I'm an open book willing to help as best I can so you can shoot me a question or ask for help anytime.
I completely restored this tractor in parts 3 & 4 if you wanna check that out!
Excellent video Sir, I am watching from England. The old mowers are really cool, we have different makes over here. I have a Hayter from the 60's with a 3.5 Briggs and Sratton and they are just a pleasure to use and listen too. Your mower sound really sweet. Old is Gold.
Probably haven't seen a Clinton over there! Thank you for watching and I'm glad you enjoyed the video! Those old Briggs and Stratton's can go forever! I have a few of them from the 50s. They sound different and it's amazing. I believe it's the manual points system that gets us that amazing thumping sound at idle. Thanks for your comment!
It's great to see you again. I had trouble hearing you but I'm old lol. I think that pinging might just be the muffler? That was a great find.
It's great to finally get some time to edit more video! I'm sorry about the audio quality all I have to record on is my phone and its not very good. I think that there is some junk in the muffler from years sitting outside causing the sound ad well. Funny thing about it is this engine was very close to getting thrown on a scrap truck! Clinton's were made in Iowa where I live and are becoming more rare so to have two of them now is amazing! Thanks for watching John!
Looks good brother!🤟👍👏👌

This is the exact type mower from the movie maximum overdrive. Made by Stephen king
That's crazy! These mowers weren't as common as others back in the day so it'd be really cool to see. I'll check that out. Good job putting the two together! I love my lawn boy two strokes never die I swear!
Yeah the mower used in the movie was a rare lawnmower and they had to strip the stickers off of it to keep from copyrighting. I know the mower is a 1985 lawnboy 8157 BBC. With the plastic carburetor.
Mine has the metal carb I believe but it's between an 85 and 89 I'm not sure I can't find a place to look up lawnboy numbers. I'm gonna nickname my lawnboy the "Mean Green Hungry Machine" 😂 I watched the scene your talking about and it's awesome!
The video with the mower it called, Deke runs from the machines( Maximum Overdrive - 1986) skip to 2:30
That's what I found! It's awesome with the bloody wheels and growl. Just saying that thing was way to quiet to be a lawnboy 😂
Start it up and rev it to the rev limiter
That engine has been replaced with a Predator 212! Look for the video coming soon! 👀👀
Thats awesome
Thanks! Part 2 is gonna drop soon with a even faster engine. Stay tuned for that!
@@davidsrandr sweet.
The next engine is gonna be a predator 212. I already rode it and it's scary fast. 🤘
Also that deck belt you have to use oem deck belt 754-0329a for the 38" the tractor supply ⅝" belts don't work that's why your pulleys are spinning when the blades are off position.the inner v of that belt is too wide.the mtd riders are funny on the belt sizes the oem belt has a narrow inner v of the belt.if you keep using it that way it will burn out the spindle break pads coming from under the foot plates on each side of the tractor.if the pads are wore you can remove the spindle brake pads and add few small washers to make em drop down a tad to push on the spindles to get them to stop.thats an alternative to a worn pads
Well you see that's the funny thing about it, this deck I put back on is a 42" so I had to cross reference the number off the belt that came with my parts tractor that had the bigger deck to get the belt I got. I prefer buying oem when I can afford it, sadly I can't afford a belt that costs over 50 or 60 bucks at least. I'm only 17, I'm not made of money 😂. Remember, this is a restoration on a TIGHT budget. Barely have enough cash from things I've fixed and sold to buy the starter, the final piece. Thank you so much for the information though I will certainly keep that in mind if the blades ever don't disengage. Do you know where you would buy an oem belt that may be more affordable? As I said before, I do prefer oem when it's affordable. Thank you for your comment and information!
Also, mine didn't come with spindle brakes, I mentioned adding them though in the video. Does your montgomery ward have them?
@@davidsrandr yes mine had them there is pairs of side by side square holes for the spindle brakes .they put different ones for different deck sizes like a 36" and a 38" and a 42" and some 44" the 46" deck has a a spindle the has a v shaped pad that spring loaded that goes in the pulley when the PTO is turned off.thats why there is square pivot pan with spring hooked to it that clamps on the metal bracket that comes down under the mounting bolts off the transmission.the circle pan cutout is for the 46" deck setup for it to fit over the duplex pulley when deck is lifted
@@davidsrandrthe OEM belt number for a 42" deck is 754-0371a
That's very interesting, I wish I could see some pictures of the system. Do you by any chance know the numbers off this stuff or what it's called? I want to research this more it's a very important thing. I'm so glad you brought it to my attention!
Just a heads up that parts tractor is another Montgomery ward rider but named signature 2000 I own two of them .they came with that burgundy hood for the single cylinder engines flathead and overhead valve and gray hood on the rare twin cylinder 18hp but they did a twin cylinder in the burgundy hood one but it's a 16hp twin cylinder flat head opposed
I noticed that when I bought it from the junkyard. Had a single cylinder flathead on it I pulled the guy I bought it off of wanted the engine. I'm just glad I could get that tractor as you can see I used a lot of parts off of it! Thank you so much for all your information and advice if you know a lot about these tractors I could certainly use some tips about mine! I know how to work on it, just want to make sure I get to know everything the best I can. Thanks! Also, if you wanna email me me email is in the description of the video!
@@davidsrandr no prob just hit me up and no worries 👍
Alrighty, thanks for everything!
@@davidsrandr welcome 👍
Shared you on gab. Great to see you again. Keep up the good work. That mower should give you years of work. Great job
Wow thats awesome thank you so much John! It makes me feel amazing that my work and videos are good enough for you to recommend them to others! It's really quiet an achievement for me! I work so much I can't record it all so the videos are a little more gapped I hope you don't mind. I certainly hope so, that's why I decided to restore it! That and it's just totally awesome! Thanks John!
@@davidsrandr your more than welcome. It's awesome to see a young man outside working not for money but because he enjoys it. I hope your an infection that catches so to say lol.
@John in the spirit I think you replied to what I said cause TH-cam shows there is a second comment, but I can't see the comment to read it. If so, could you please repeat what you said so I can read it? Thanks John your one of those guys that makes me wanna keep posting content.
I sharpened it but as you can see it still isn't that good 😂. I think a new bar and chain is a must. I mean they are 40 years old...
So neat to see something older be brought back to life!
I know right! They just don't make things like they used to. I love the look of this thing and plan on restoring it as best I can.
School first your right. Narrow angle when working seems best. Rocks might be from water in the fuel they was using ie water turned to minerals. I've seen one about like that and it's all that made any sense to me. Great job those Kohler carbs are the worst. Blessings
Thanks for letting me know about the camera angle! I never thought about minerals, that's a very interesting idea and I agree it makes sense. Kohler carburetors are definitely the worst! I heard a guy say if you buy a replacement Kohler carburetor and it surges, they often don't make the jets big enough and you'll have to drill them out! Hope your doing amazing John and thanks for watching the video. God bless you as well!
I heard the predator designer was a Honda head engineer that quit so he was free to design predator. They seem like good engines. Betting you'll be pleased with it
I've never heard about that it sounds really interesting! They are amazing engines for Go-Karts and Minibikes cause they got power right out of the box and they have plenty of mods available! I ama very pleased with it especially after seeing it has very little wear on it.
So what's the game plan for that bad boy
Get it up and going and maybe find another junk mower frame to put it on? Maybe a racing mower? Who knows the sky's the limit! If you have any other ideas, I'd love to hear em!
Once again no notice but I looked for it from your heads up. Good luck with that Kohler they can be tricky. Tc
I know they can I have another that was and still is a real pain. Gotta cross my fingers. Make sure you have clicked the bell on my channel so you get the notifications. If you have any tips on these kohlers, I'm all ears!
@@davidsrandr all bells are clicked it's just utube being utube. It's those carburetors mainly. Maybe if a guy could fit a different carburetor on it? But wouldn't know what type to suggest
I'm sorry about TH-cam behaving poorly. I'll think about that if this one doesn't work it's got one thing going for it and that is that it has an external fuel pump that isn't a pain to deal with like some kohlers
I didn't get notified about this one, found it perusing. Got me a new Branson 25 horse tractor, first I've ever owned. I'm over 60 and it's something I've always wanted. Someone really taught you well you know your stuff. Great to see you. Tc
That's odd I'm sorry you didn't get notified. That's awesome you finally got that Branson you wanted all these years! Thank you I have learned a lot over the 3 or 4 years I've been doing this. I watch hundreds of hours of videos on TH-cam and read countless articles and manuals along with my dad giving me the ability to aquire all I need to do what I do. I really appreciate the compliment! Great to see you to John I really enjoy having you as a subscriber your a great guy.
@@davidsrandr thankyou
Your welcome John! Hope you enjoy the short Coming in 10 minutes!
@@davidsrandr I'll keep an eye out
Alrighty! Have a good day John! I hope to hear again from you soon.
Thank you bro, I just got a frame and a motor (the same size) for a project for summer to keep me busy
Your welcome! There's still two more episodes of this to come I'll be putting some big engines on the kart! That's awesome that you got a Kart they are really fun! If you need any help, email me I'm happy to answer questions
Is that a homelite or a craftsman
It's a Homelite XL Chainsaw. Probably the smallest chainsaw Homelite made.
@@davidsrandr had to ask had a craftsman an also a homelite that looked the same there good saws tho
@@isaiahbohannon4950 They really are! There just a little sensitive to older gas so you gotta keep it fresh but besides that they are perfect saws
@@davidsrandr just future reference see about putting a skip tooth chain on the saw thats what the cabin is really.meant for smaller saws like that less drag on the engine as well but keep up the good work kid people are proud of u
@@isaiahbohannon4950 I didn't know that I'll look into it! Thank you so much I always try to work for the proudness of others! When someone else is proud of you, you know your doin something right
