Risen (PC/Steam): Any% Speedrun in 40:08
This is an any% speedrun of the steam release of Risen done in 40:08. Timing starts from waking up on the beach and ends upon the final cutscene starting.
Finally got a run without any major mistakes. There are still a lot of sloppy time losses throughout. Getting sub 40 shouldn't be too hard with current strats.
There are some new strats since my last pb. These strats combined probably save around a minute.
I found that there is a levitation orb above the farm on the way to harbour city. You can get to it by abusing the air standing glitch that happens when the game is running at high framerates (90-100+ fps). Using this orb to fly to harbour city saves at least 15s compared to walking straight there.
It turns out that some more flights are faster when done from the temple than when done from volcano keep. Makes sense since gaining height is generally faster than falling. These flight changes save at least 40s combined. The greaves and hammer flights are now done from the temple; and the 2nd flight to the swamp is also faster when done immediately after finishing the disk dupes.
It turns out there is a beast transformation scroll in a chest in the cave above Eldric's hut. This is actually about 7 seconds slower to get than buying the beast scroll from Illumar. I decided to get this beast scroll over buying Illumar's because I struggle to consistently get his scroll fast enough to be worth it.
Up until now my runs were done with the game capped at 60 fps (using v-sync). This run doesn't have the game's framerate restricted at all (this is how the game is by default) and this saves a lot of time in terms of real time for various reasons. Here are some differences I observed between playing with capped and uncapped framerates.
1) Load times are greatly dependent on the game's framerate. For example when loading quick saves, my last pb capped at 60 fps gets around 15.5s load times while this run gets around 9 second load times. There are no other differences that would influence load times.
2) Air standing glitch happens when framerates exceed 90-100.
3) Dialog feels like it goes by faster in general when skipping it by holding escape. Dialog glitch also feels harder to get in general.
4) Levitation glitch feels like it accelerates faster.
5) Soft-lock resulting from climbing ledges. This doesn't effect the run but it can still happen in certain areas or certain ledges (it always happens for me in the very first cave for example).
Overall, it is faster to run the game without restricting its' framerate.

Turns out you can actually defeat Infinite before he goes into the background on phase 2. I had to rebind my jump button because, I find it very hard to quickly do drill inputs while holding jump. This could be improved a bit, I don't see sub 13 happening though.

This level is stupid to ring attack. It isn't too hard but, getting the rings while avoiding/shooting the spike balls is pretty annoying. Probably could get more of the super rings by using a different (and harder) route at the end.

That's insane, the amount if time it must have taken you. This game is one of my all time favorites, played it before any other RPG. grew up playing the original on CD.

There was a Dungeon editor for this game that allowed you to choose your stats, and choose any armor and weapon in the game. Also, add items in your inventory. Like adding a moonstone so you could teleport place to place for example.

I tried lowering resolution but some levels still lagged, and beta testing makes the game too glitchy Update: My spoiled ass got a Steam Deck and now I can play the game at a smooth 60FPS!
