Common issues with 700r4 not shifting out of first also make sure to check fluid level.
Could a bad governor also cause the 700r to not shift into overdrive/4th gear ? Shifts like butter all thru 1 2 &3 and oil level is good any suggestions would help thanks

You know your missing the plastic drive gear off the Governor eh?? lol it won’t shift without that…
I'm trying to figure out why mine is jumping out of 1st. It's a manual 3 speed. Try and put into gear you think it's in gear you press the gas and it grinds then jumps into gear. Then you're ready to go as long as you hold with all your force in 1st cause it will pop back out.
i have a 2004r on a tri five chevy. i have my vac switch on ported with the dist vac advance. on long stretches lock up helps a lot with cooling.

Sounds like my car , my car only downshifts to 1 st gear if I go fast or downhill .
Where is the plastic Governor Gear that. goes on the end of the Shaft???
You mean the one for the speedometer that’s on the output shaft? You take the tail shaft housing off it’s like 4 bolts and you’ll see it
I’m gonna have to look at the governor on mine. It won’t shift out if first till 4,000 rpms unless I accelerate and let off and it will shift

In this video you said If your Valves aren't opening... are there more than 1...my valve at the end opens and closes... I don't see any others opening or closing.

My 92 454 SS overdrive acting up but on regular drive works good what could it be ?
When you say acting up what do you mean? Because overdrive and drive are different. Perhaps your talking about your torque converter lockup?
Any ideas on why it wouldn't shift out of first until I put it in park turn off truck and restart it? Only happens maybe twice a week other than that drives fine. Thanks for any input
Why is your governor gear missing from the governor valve? Did you remove it or did it break off inside the transmission?
There is no gear that goes on the governor
Um are you sure... I think there is. If not its broke off and that's why it wont shift. If you take the tail stalk off you'll find the gear
@@mean_sbc8653 You ARE absolutely missing a plastic gear on your governor. (i can see the pinion hole to attach the plastic gear, pinion is missing too, someone forgot to rebuild it and put the gear on it)..what is driving it if not for the missing gear? Cannot be the fluid pressure that swing the governor out.
My transmission takes awhile for it to work...if I park it for more than 2 days it takes time for it to move I have to give it gas until it eventually works,any ideas to why it does it???
Line pressure, hookup a gauge and try it in the different gears that’s what it sounds like to me
UPDATE: kind of a late update but the reason the transmission was having problems was because of low line pressure, when installing the torque converter I bottomed it out into the pump and it started cutting away at it causing a leak internally which made it take awhile to go into drive and reverse... eBay transmissions are ok as long as you install them right!
Hi there, just got a corvette c4 w/fresh carb swap on it from previous owner who apparently hasn't adjusted the tv cable properly from previous TPI setting (cable feels not tight enough and needs correct bracker adapter kit). Unlikely he was driving it around yet, I just bought it home and wasn't really shifting until it was warm, then shifted to 2nd and remained there, wasn't pushing it at all to avoid even more damage. Reverse also works properly. Not driven any longer, was like a 10 min drive. If correct bracket+tv cable adjustment will not make it shift, what would you recommend checking in the trans to determine the damage? Governor unit/gear as you did? Open-up seal pan and filter? Trans oil is bright red, noticed it was low and added a quarter but haven't tried it anymore. Any input on how to best approach this is really appreciated, especially cause I will need a mechanic doing this ($$), worried trans may be burned already given what everybody says on these trans...thanks
Matt C if you ask me I think the correct TV bracket/cable should fix it. The governor and the TV are what control up shifts and downshifts in automatic transmission and if you know for sure those are both good and your fluid is good I’d check line pressure next
Aren’t you supposed to bottom out the torque converter either way? Usually two clunks when installing it on a trans
the one on your passenger side is the tipin switch, it electronically retards your dist under heavy acceleration to prevent detonation, but it uses the egr valve, the esc system (the big 4pin connector on your hei dist) and the knock sensor, if youve eliminated any of that, then that switch probably isnt doing anything, the other one, the actual tcc switch, at least for me, mounts on the driver side near the brake booster
My Tipin switch is also hooked together to the tcc switch with a vacuum line.
Mine just started today 71 monte carlo i took it for a drive after a year of rebuild... CRASHED... and was shifting hard tv cable is a lil loose gonna tighten tomorrow

Mine 700r4 only drives on gear one, I can do donuts with gear one but it wont shift up. Maybe it could be this problem only?
Mine is having trouble after a fluid and filter change. Worked fine until the filter change. It goes from park to reverse and park to drive fine, just doesn’t want to shifter after that unless the motor is revved up high. Any ideas?
I’m not an expert by any means but I’d guess torque converter or low line pressure

I just put a new to me 700r4 in my truck and i don’t think it’s shifting to 4th and the tv cable is set right
DougL it probably is but the valve the cable is attached too in the trans is probably sticking so while driving and make sure it’s in “overdrive” not just “drive” stomp on the pedal a few times and see what it does. For some reason mine sticks till the trans warms up a bit

mean_sbc86 I replaced the gouverner with one that I know worked and did stomp on it in overdrive a bunch still doesn’t try to go into 4th.
I've put a 700r4 in my 82 k10. My plug has 3 wires, purple, black, brown. Purple is power, what are the other 2 wires for and how do I wire them up. Any help would be much appreciated. TY in advance

@@mean_sbc8653 I figured it out. The truck came with a 200r trans. When I got truck it had a th350 and fuel mileage was killing me. 3800rpm at 65moh. With the 700r4 at 65mph it's pulling 2400rpm major difference in fuel mileage. TY
My 81 has a six cylinder with the 350C trans,. It’s junk. I’m about to swap a Gen 2 5.7 & 700 R4. I’m going to plug the harness in. My switch is on fire wall inside of the wiper motor . Great Video.
I hope this ( ONE OF THESE) is the problem with a 1993 k1500 I'm thinking of buying,, if it fixes it, ill let you know !!!!!!!!!!!!! just sayin

Mine started that problem today, was shifting out ok at first. Would always get 3 shifts. Gonna change fluid and strainer, and check out the governor on the side, the cable is working fine.
