Water temp was no more than 35 degrees. I was trying out the evolve pole spear with a three prong. I was definitely surprised how well it performed with bigger fish. Sorry for the bad camera angle. I will be going back to get more footage before too long.

Only bagged one fish but it was a great time. We dove for a quick 30 min. We could have dove longer if the air temp wasn't below freezing (20-25 F). The water was 35 F. It definitely was deceiving with the clear sky. Freedive , Spear , Fishing , Spearfishing , Fishing , Survival , Outdoors , Cold Water , Utah , Electric Lake , Fish , Cutthroat Trout .

This was a great time getting out with family and friends and enjoying one of the most underrated natural resources that Utah has to offer. Catching these little guys was not only a blast but a delicious meal as well. I definitely recommend giving it a try.

Electric lake is a Great Place to start freshwater spearfishing. The trout can be spotted from the surface and gives an idea of the challenge behind hunting in the water. Its located up in the mountains and is beautiful in and out of the water. With loads of bait fish to swim with and tasty trout to hunt. Hope you guys enjoy and adventure there yourself.

Went on a spontaneous family fishing day and ended up with some delicious trout and great memories. I dont use rod and reel often and when I do I usually dont bag many fish. Thanks for watching and stay tuned for upcoming videos.

2022 Spearfishing Nationals was held at lake Powell. The lake is extremely low but is still great fishing. The water was clear and fish were in abundance. although I didn't bag any stripers there were a lot shot by other competitors. After competing in this tournament I am determined to improve. They diverted Provo river since this video. I think the fishing would be extremely poor now.
Nice video and good shot’s!! It’s just crazy that they throw away all that tasty carp’s. In Europe carp is considered a very good eating fish. And that’s not all, in east Germany and some parts of east Europe there is the tradition to eat carp for Christmas. So for you Americans it would be like filling dumpster with turkeys.
Thanks for the comment and the great analogy. I have tried carp a couple times and honestly I didn’t like it. Maybe it’s something in the water that makes them taste different. 🤷♂️😁😅

Yeah, they usually donate the fish to be made into fertilizer or animal food. I don’t think that was the case this time around.
Is that a Gatku polespear? What made you switch from the slip tip to the flopper tip? How does the hybrid front end compare to the full aluminum front end?
Yeah it’s a Gatku. The line attaching the slip tip to the pole ended up snapping and the carp swam away with the tip 😅. I feel like the flexible end of the spear makes it shoot faster and helps prevent the fish from tearing off when I’m not using a slip tip.
That isn't good to shoot a helpless duck.😮

What time of year is this? I have been thinking about spear fishing this area for a while, but the water is not usually this clear.
Spring, when the water is about 45F. They diverted the river and changed some things this year though. I do t think it would be as good anymore.

Yeah kinda. It’s in Provo river just before the state park/marina.
Awesome videos dude! I just started doing some freediving locally and couldn't be more excited about it. I saw that you recommended a cheapo Amazon pole spear and I'm going to pick one up. Let me know if you ever go out and need someone to go with.

Thanks! This was along the road that leads to midway. It gets murkier the closer you get to the river.

The spot in this video is currently all messed up. The state has diverted the river and other things that have made it hard to spear. I’m hoping it’s fixed by next spring. I haven’t been out much this year but maybe we can make something happen.
Fantastic video man! We just went out a bit ago spear fishing carp, except we were wading and hitting them in the shallows in clear water. Got 76 big ones among 6 guys in just a bit over an hour!

Thanks! I haven’t. In fact I haven’t had the chance to spear in the weeds for a few years. The water rarely get high enough.
If a duck is that friendly with humans, it's probably a domestic that was released there Which means legally, you can take it.

Nice video, the carp are put into the bins to be collected and donated to local towns for various purposes. The world tournament is at Lake Powell this year (2023).

I'm starting spearing this year in Canada, and I'm glad I finally found someone with winter spearing footage and utilizing a polespear. Thank you for all your work.

@@Hero_Spearo Same regulations and limits as angling, just got to have a dive flag and line to your spear. Don't have a camera but might pick one up mid season so that I can get some footage. Cheers
Do you generally see many walleye in the Provo river?
I have only seen a few and I have dove it probably ten times.
I had no idea there was that many pike in the river
They were spawning at the time of this video. It should be in the next couple weeks though.
I understand there were a ton of fish, but people could not keep them?
They are considered trash fish and have the reputation of tasting bad. They also have a bunch of bones making them hard to eat.
You don't need permission to catch and kill pike they don't belong in Utah lake.
Can I ask what time of year you We're able to get water clarity like that?
That was last year in April.

Oh I wish. I have tried a couple of times but the water is so murky I couldn’t see my hand a foot away from my face. Yuba is one of the few places it’s legal to spear game fish but you can’t see anything. Otherwise there would be a state record for pike.😁👍

@@diversifishfra2645 I live 12 hours from the nearest cost. Fresh water is all I have locally. Where I live carp are a huge problem and considered an invasive species that effect our native fish. The state even pays people to net them.
Dig the edit man ! What kind of mask do you use ? I have a beard similar to yours and when I dive in cold water the silicone hardens enough to let the water in cause of the stash lol
I recently got a hammer head with the mirrored lenses. I also shave the top 1/8” of my stash. You can barely notice it’s shaved but it’s just enough for a seal.
