This is kinda a bad faith take. Your whole argument (about the mod being bad, not about it costing money) was structured around the progression being rebalanced and ancient cities being rarer. Rebalancing isnt a bad thing. I dont know why minecraft youtubers are so obsessed with keeping the base games balance intact. The base game travel progression isnt intuitive either. Minecarts before horses?? In the real world its the other way around, and while minecraft isnt the real world, when arguing how intuitive something is you must use the real world for reference. Landing in water to reduce fall damage is intuitive, for example, because in the real world it does the same (to an extent.) Also, you claim that in base minecraft minecarts come before horses, but that simply isnt true. Making a minecart network takes way more time and resource gathering than taking one saddle does. You pretty much always get a horse, and never even make a minecart network in the base game, and if you do its after the horse. The changes to minecarts made in the mod make sense because copper can actually be gathered at a reasonable rate, and iron can make minecarts actually viable as a post horse option. Second, “nerfing minecraft” isnt neccesarily a bad thing. RL craft, one of the most popular modpacks ever, completely nerfs progression and rebalances the game. If you dont want to play with the balance changes, then just dont install the mod. Its your opinion that the mod is bad, but honestly sharing your opinion doesnt benefit anyone here other than yourself. Its just an attempt for clicks. The mod should not cost money, we can all agree on that, but your argument as why the mod is “bad” is very nit-picky and seems structured in a way to make the viewer angry at jet-starfish instead of thinking rationally

A lot of people dislike modern minecraft for sometimes silly reasons, and youtubers see that as an opportunity to clickbait. Edit: I feel like he completely misunderstood the point of going to an Ancient City. The reward for finding an Ancient City is the Skulk itself. A block that revolutionized redstone by adding Wireless Sensors and the ability to store EXP in a Block? But he added an entirely different item that stores EXP, completely taking away the original purpose of the Skulk? I feel like this is a major problem with the Minecraft community as a whole. If the mechanic isn't tied to a specific item, then players don't really think about it. This EXP storing mechanic is already used in the form if the Skulk Blocks, it didn't need to be an item. Minecraft isn't Terraria, it's allowed to have mechanics outside of just finding a cool item to use in combat.

TBH having watched the full video. Trying to have a speedrunner, someone who doesnt interact with the entire game, decern if they have a mod marketed as vanilla+ installed is really stupid.

Minecarts being more expensive than a horse but supposed to be a slower thus "eariler" mode or transportation is a really stupid thing that was in the game for years. Plus minecarts have been griped about for YEARS since they are not useful for transportation. sure an SMP might use them, but when would an average player have the time to build a giant rail system?

carts are not really part of exploration as you have to place the rails first before you can ride it. So I don't mind them buffing it a lot as you are anyway going to a place you've already been. Also the fact it uses a lot of resources should be rewarded well.

Even if this was an honest take on Minecraft Exploration, it's still an outright scam to sell it for real money.

it's called "better exploration", not "better speedrunning", nor "better ender dragon fight" for a reason. Why would he notice the changes in ore distribution, crops growth, or elytra, when he was focused on just beating the game, and not explorating

We all as a society need to stop saying violating TOS and EULA is a crime, it isn’t and saying it is gives more power to corporations. Not defending selling mods, I think it’s scummy no matter if your mojang, Bethesda, or a TH-camr.

I think the mod is bad. But speedrunning isn’t exploring. I think the mod is meant for pol that just go around in their world, hoping to find cool structures

Im gonna be real, I kind of liked the faster rails concept. It gave copper another use, didn't remove any recipes, and made minecarts faster (w/o having to put in a command) while not inharrently disrupting Redstone. I think it could be an intresting way to transport yourself, others, and/or large quantities of materials to/from mines/storage sites/building locations in so long as you already have the infrastructure set up. Next is the reason to do so in the first place. Sometimes, minecraft feels oddly decentralized and collectivized at the same time. 1 moment you are traveling thousands of blocks just to get like 5 different block choices, the next you are back at spawn, with EVERYTHING you would ever need, and no reason to go that far again. Would I call this an issue with minecraft, not inharrently, no. For me personally, I sometimes dream of making minecraft more like other open world games in how you do have to explore to get what you want, and then keep heading back to restock, but also I my self can't understate the convince of having EVERYTHING sitting in a chest somewhere within 100 meters of your bed. What I'm trying to get at, is that I think it would be nice to get a middle ground between the 2 as a "loose" base, that you can then mold into whatever system you want. So if you want to have everything within 100 meters of your bed, you can, and if you want to have everything sourced from where it's found, hundreds of meters away or greater, you can, and if you want something somewhere inbetween those 2, you can, all because you decided to play that way, with this hypothetical mod simply giving you the choice to do so. And to link it back to the powered rails bit at the start, I think they would fit nicely into such for obvious reasons. In a sence, you arnt trying to make the minecart compete with the elytra, or reinvent the wheel with the horse, but rather carving out nitches for these items to fulfill in accordance with those who wish to use them.

I like some of the features of the mod but not the others. I like the horse armor, the rails, the villager balancing (being easier to get some enchantments in some biomes but it being a bit harder in others)

Tbf you were speedrunning, this adds alot of features for like a longer playtime session

I think the mod isint good but this really wassent the best showcase of playing minecraft. Speedrunners skip alot of stuff in the game so the mod also dosent go to full effect. Trying to beat the dragon as the only goal leaves alot of stuff not used. If you played it more casualy you would use the features more

This mod straight up doesnt really do anything for exploration at all, horses were the best form of transport for exploring, no one makes nether highways to explore, its for mobility to pre determined destinations, so nerfing both is honestly ridiculous, and changing structure values and only adding a single item is just so not worth even adding the mod, a mod that adds a single new biome holds much more value then all of these changes, ESPECIALLY because a biome mod wouldnt make things like highways impossible

5:47 This was something another TH-camr brought up but by making something less common in all other biomes biomes instead of making it biome exclusive is you end up with a more players wasting time by recycling trades then exploring. For instance if you make mending 66% less common in all biomes other than swamps you cause players to waste 3 times the amount of time, because who would bother looking for a biome they haven't found yet or setting up a breeder in a biome thousands of blocks away when you can just keep prying for mending (aka gambling) Mojangs solution while not great at least makes you spend time doing something other than just brainless librarian recycling. but it wont affect anybody who isn't a chronic gambler so at least there's that.

im uh gonna have to hard disagree on the vanilla transportation situation ice boats working is fine and neat, maybe just nerf their speed a bit and have ice melt in the nether minecarts should be linkable with chains, leave powered rails as they are so as to not break redstone contraptions, and make furnace minecarts useful by making them very, very fast elytra shouldn't entirely negate any other mode of transportation. flight is great and fun and easily the safest way to travel (thanks mojang for not making the creature of the night sky a direct counter to the elytra). but it also requires no infrastructure like the other modes of transport. Aileron (a mod) does a pretty good job changing this, though i do think making it just a little stronger and reworking phantoms to counter the elytra would solve the elytra problem entirely and horses... they deserve some serious love. their top speed should be higher and it shouldn't be a game of luck to get them to be faster/jump higher. they're the one mode of transport that shouldn't need infrastructure because they're one of the easiest to get early on (especially if saddles are made craftable)

This is a great video, but one of the things Jet missed I think is that a large portion of minecraft players never even defeat the ender dragon in their normal survival games, and of the people that do a very small percentage of them are speedrunners. So while a normal player may notice the changes in the mod more than a speedrunner would, I don't think the changes are an overall positive for the casual player experience in my opinion.

In the transport section; from the perspective of a new player, minecarts absolutely _should_ be better than boats and horses, given how much harder it is to set up a rail network comparatively. Boats _not going faster_ when on ice compared to water is also a logical conclusion to make. As it is, in Vanilla, minecarts are literally useless as transportation given the resource costs to make it viable. It makes sense that boats are the worst option given how easy they are to obtain. It makes sense that horses would be a step up, given that you need a saddle, which requires more effort to obtain then just some wood. _It makes sense_ that Minecrarts should be worth all the effort and resources put in to set up the network as a form of transportation. Now, what transport has to do with exploring is a completely different fight.

To be fair about the progression of technology, horses are way easier to get than a full minecart track

I feel like this mod isn't really made for speedrunning. When it comes to testing, I feel as though this mod is more for casual, long-term worldbuilding, not speedrunners, as unless you are doing some sort of 100% run, typically, most things like Woodland Mansions, and certain other underground things are ignored. Of course, you might be able to notice the ores... eventually, but aside from that, a Speedrunner is likely going to not be using most of these features, outside of maybe a horse, but then again, being a speedrunner, they might if they knew certain features of the mod did in fact exist. (I know this was just for fun, and not a point to be made, but I still wanted to point this out, just to make a complete thought.) However, I do believe that this mod does have cool features, even when it comes to certain things becoming more rare, like Deep Dark Structures, as if you are doing a long-term world, making you have to find more would be nice, however one of the things the mod seems to neglect in some cases, is that even though stuff like transportation is buffed in some ways, and are now more progressive to encourage the making of them, one huge issue is that you can only really explore so far before it becomes less worth it, as you likely will only expand so many chunks in a world. One thing that could make it more worth it, is taking some inspiration from other exploration games... Ways that allow for easy fast-travel. Certain mods used in Modpacks for this, are mods like the Waystones Mod, which allows you to travel between different places, with the use of experience. A cooler way to do this, leaning into the magical side of Minecraft, could literally be books in which allows "writing" a location, and using it in certain things to activate them and travel, or ways to craft new travelling methods, as well as adding to the lack of explorable places, because sure, there are quite a few structures in the game, but I wouldn't say there is enough to make travel be exciting, because eventually, you are going to see everything, and quite quickly at that. What we need, is not to just be shuffling around exploration progression, but adding between them. I do agree with some things changed, like moving the Recovery Compass, though I still feel it should be more rare than that. Minecraft seems to need more things that are not only exciting to explore, but we also need more rare things, outside of stuff like the Woodland Mansions... Because honestly, more items, and structures, that don't appear often, would definitely add more to the game as a whole, since it would add a sense of uniqueness to some worlds as well, and allow for people to have more places to go. As cool as the ideas are, it seems that the mod misses the bigger picture in terms of how progression really affects a player, as Minecraft, even with these changes, is still a pretty short experience nowadays, given we know pretty much everything about it. If we want Minecraft to be like it once was, it needs to rework itself in some ways, or add in-between barriers, and new rarities that allow for people to have a way, and need, to discover new things that you don't usually see in pretty much every run of Minecraft... I could say more, but I don't want to rant on for TOO long. It's just my thoughts though. Overall, it was a fun video, though. It did end up making me think, though. I can't wait to see more!
