    Mine is setup about the same. If doing it again, I'd probably go 3.0 gallon and get a Giant Loop fuel bladder for an additional gallon of range when the ride warranted it. Still on stock suspension and rims.

    Ha ha great review, you convinced me to buy another one. Put over 20,000 ks on one from 2012 - 2018. Currently have a T7. Love the bike for what's its designed for, especially in the dry. (Which is a thing of the past.) But yeah, miss the WR for exploration and gnarlier tracks. Was looking at CRF300 Rally but can't get them, and suspension sucks on them standard. WR is full package. Im light weight, so the clickers were enough to sort the suspension good enough. Was fully moded when I bought it and had heaps of low down in the bush. So I can't really see any point in the Honda now.

    Picking mine up tomorrow. I'm coming from a ktm 1190eds but I also ride a 150cc scooter so I'm well aware that power isn't everything. Can't wait to hit some of those tracks that scared the crap out of me on my 1190. like you Im going to use it more like an enduro by sticking it on the back of the ute to get to the trails. That way I'll have more energy for riding... Maybe down the track I'll look at a 250f but I think duel sports are the way to go for most of us big adv riders.

      The servo is for back pressure and noise on the stock exhaust. Yamaha’s generally don’t have any issues with failures like some of the other brands I have seen. You can get a delete module if needed.

    Great review. I'm considering purchasing a 2008 that's been pretty well set-up by the prior owner, including the IMS 18L tank. That bare fleshy tank is super functional but horrible looking... I *really* want to put some kind of sticker or covering on it like you have. I saw in an earlier comment that you got yours from DMK Designs, who do custom (I just want something simple in blue with the Yamaha logo, not sure if they have any pre-made "default" designs? I'll maybe reach out to them to ask). My question: I hear that these IMS tanks are permeable to gas vapor. With that in mind, how have your tank stickers held up over time? Have they stayed on well, bubbled a lot, etc.?

    • @Lincolnridesmotos
      @Lincolnridesmotos 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The bare tank does look horrible! DMK can do whatever you like. If you want something basic just tell him that. All I told him when getting my graphics was the couple of brand logos and similar WR design to the current model at the time. His graphics have slits in them to stop them from falling off from the fuel. I would recommend fitting the stickers to a tank that has been empty for a few days and let the stickers set for a week or so before filling with fuel again. The only spots I have had issues with the stickers is from where the knee braces rub, a little trim and all is ok.

    Gday, great review. I've ridden road bikes for years, but have recently been gifted a WR250F as a first dirt bike, but really want to learn my dirt skills starting in adventure riding, and easy single track. Seems like the WRR is much more suited and am thinking about trying to swap. Do you think the F can be suitable at all for adventure riding with a few mods? cheers

    • @Lincolnridesmotos
      @Lincolnridesmotos 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Evan Field the F is perfect for learning single track! The F can be used for adv riding but it’s takes some work as the service intervals are a lot closer together and they are not as smooth and suited for the constant speeds. It’s well worth giving it a shot and it’s a good bike to work out if you will like the adv type or the single track harder stuff before you try and make the swap.

Yep, an oil change after every big day will be a chore, but ill probably cope until it gets too annoying :) I've read some conflicting info that the F is at risk of engine and drive train dramas if you do too much road riding, (an hour or so ride to the trail, or a big adventure ride) but i havent actually found any one with it happening.

    • @Lincolnridesmotos
      @Lincolnridesmotos 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Booki I have a 300 I use for single track and enduro. So good question! For general single track it is pretty good. When you want to push hard the weight will hold you back. The biggest thing I find holding me back on this bike compared to my enduro bike is the ground clearance and travel. 70mm less ground clearance and 30mm less travel on the 250r vs a real enduro bike. Your skid plate and foot pegs take a real beating! This is why I have an enduro bike to go with my 250r. The 250r can and will do all the trails but it is more enjoyable on the full enduro bike when the going gets really tough.

    Mate you are 100% correct with the WR benefits, I bought a WR over a DRZ because the WR IS a better bike out of the showroom, I use mine mainly for 53 year old ADV riding, fitted with Barret pannier racks, Screen for bikes, screen and a low Seat Concepts seat, Safari tank and changed the chain and sprockets. My mates laughed at me on it's first outing, I blew them away on fire trails, and even on down hill sections on the bitumen roads. Overtaking trucks need to be planned into next week as the little bike just does not have the acceleration at highway speeds the DRZ is better at overtaking trucks than the WR. The WR loves to rev all the way to the limiter....hard to get used to for a while after riding the Triumph XCA 800 all week to work. My mates have now gone to smaller bikes......I wonder why? The WR is very forgiving when things go bad off road unlike a big CC ADV bike if you are an average rider. Even loaded with two Andy-Strapz pannier bags, and a dry bag, the bike is so light to pick up when it has a little rest. It is to be noted that the WR-R has a steel sub frame which will accept soft pannier racks, the WR-F is an alloy sub frame.

      Rob Pinter one of the best things about this bike is it’s point and shoot characteristics. Just point it where you want to go and worry about how when you get there. You are spot on with the trucks. It’s one time you really have to plan it out. Have you had your suspension done yet?

Any further advice you have on why the WR is superior over the DRZ? I’d be riding about 50/50 on and off road. The only thing still appealing to me about the DRZ is the extra power since I’d be on road a good bit. Would I really miss the power that much on the WR?

      The fuel injection on the wr makes it a lot more user friendly over the drz. I see loads of problems with jetting and eve just bad fuel causing issues in the drz. The drz is just very basic compared to the wr and then engines don’t last anywhere near as long.

Once you work out what riding you want to really focus on you will soon find out if you enjoy the harder more F terrain and riding or the R type riding.
