Painting Everyday Moments - Watercolor Sketches
มุมมอง 3.6K7 หลายเดือนก่อน
Hi everyone! I wanted to share a few of my sketches from life. I started this project after working on the homes of tulsa because I liked working on those small arches paper blocks. It gave me more room to explore with watercolor and make quick sketches that only took between 20-30 minutes. (I’m not sure the exact time because I tend to lose track of time!) I thought someday it might be fun to ...
How I painted over 100 watercolor house portraits in Tulsa
มุมมอง 4.6K8 หลายเดือนก่อน
Let me take you on a journey from start to finish of the 133 watercolor houses I painted in the Tulsa area! Each portrait captures a wide range of the breadth and depth of Tulsas architecture. I learned a lot through this process including some wisdom about the necessity of third spaces. I guess I never put my official thesis in the end, but I took great pleasure in exploring the diversity of m...

Great work! I love all the diversity in the houses. I've seen many lovely homes in Tulsa, so these bring back memories. Before the pandemic I did a lot of house portraits and most of the people were very welcoming when I was sketching or taking photos, and some even commissioned portraits. I would find houses I wanted to paintand ask the owners if they would mind if I took pictures; never had anyone refuse. I think people are a lot more paranoid these days.
love the song! American beauty
you can come to harvard pointe and draw my house 🙂
So creative, so beautiful. Love it.
Girrrrrl I live in Tulsa, too! I feel like I recognized some of these :D They are fab. Turkey Mountain is my third space <3
What lovely neighbours.
I love all the different styles of homes in Tulsa too, so inspiring and beautiful! Thank you for sharing and capturing a small part of Tulsa!
I loved your little houses.
I love how the watercolor pictures of houses make Tulsa seem more whimsical and it makes me think again about the city. I know I've seen several of these houses. This is pretty awesome.
Interesting that you were on a public street (if the community isn't gated, it's public) and that people were suspicious of you sitting there. Maybe that's when a photo might help... I'm pretty fascinated by your watercolor renderings because they're very nicely done. I enjoy that type of artwork. What an interesting story!
I'm from Tulsa! This just randomly came up on my TH-cam. I'll give you a follow on IG.
These are fabulous.
Absolutely beautiful work… The houses are so unique and lovely… You could easily sell them for 50 bucks apiece!
This is amazing 🤩👏
Just watching you paint is amazing! As a beginner still learning which colors mix well and must test it first. One day maybe can just know (use this yellow w this blue) & become like muscle memory as love the different values you get & each layer shines through 😍.
Yeah right, as if a thief casing the joint would be so obvious!
I mean really, I would make a very bad thief 😂😂
Would love to see you do this with some deco architecture in Tulsa and make into postcards!
Love your work ! You make all the homes beautiful!
Great job
I notice a distinct lack of Lortondale houses. You should come over to our quirky little neighborhood!
@@gregthorne4292 alright but make sure you vouch for me when your neighbors start asking questions 😂
I'd only be concerned because where I live, there's been an active shooter (literally right in front of my house, luckily he was a shitty shot and didn't hit anyone), a couple fires, and a crazy person who abused our mailbox... but if I knew you were drawing, I would offer you a drink depending on the weather and be tempted tp break out my own set of pencils and draw with you. I have lived in the Tulsa area for only a decade now and before then it was Muskogee, which also has some great locations to draw, and I would sometimes walk about with my sketchpad and draw a few. Architecture was never my calling but some houses/structures are too beautiful to ignore. There's the Castle of Muskogee for instance and one year I drew a few patrons and workers before I ended up working there. But you're right in your rant about how we don't have a "third place" to be. It's either work or home. Sure, for some there's church but not everyone should be bound by that either, there's already enough controversy in that sector alone. But all other spaces are just temporary, whether it be the mall, the park, the library... all places that it's free to walk about and yet if we linger longer than an hour without it looking like we're busy we are intruding and need to leave. Not everyone has the funds to go to the zoo, to the theater, to even go buy supplies needed for a hike. We just need space to be, and as long as we're not hurting anyone, it shouldn't be a bother. But I do get the protective nature of some people in regard to their houses as well. So, it's not all that surprising you got that response. Can never be too careful these days, even when you're doing nothing.
@@carriemaxwell4695 I completely agree with you. I would like to live in an idealistic world where people aren’t afraid of each other, but I do understand legitimate safety concerns. I’m sorry you experienced an active shooter literally in front of your home! That’s terrifying! There have been some kind strangers who have offered me water and chatted for a bit. Much more than any negative experiences but as humans do we tend to focus on the negative.
So cool... enjoying another Tulsa artist!
I love your little paintings!
I recognize several houses, you picked some really good representations of several neighborhoods. It’s a lovely idea, and using Google street view is genius. I can’t tolerate the sun right now (lupus) so I might poke about until I’m inspired by something I stumble over.
@@MollyBowling Google street view is a lifesaver! I hope your staying cool Molly <3
Well can you blame them? The world has lots of sketchy people hurting others. Love the house thing. Nice Job 🥂
creep
*Great artwork* . You draw from real Life! *Brilliant* Excellent sketch work . Nice Green tea (hopefully not using boiling water as it burns the leaf And leaves a bitter taste) Good smoothie making hmmm Keep sharing.
I’m generally too impatient to wait but you’re so right the tea definitely gets bitter..
Love your art, your expression of what you see. Looking forward to more of your work. And you are right, 100%. Don't let fear hold you back- be brave- be bold!💖
Thank you Elizabeth! Easier said than done, but always I try to remind myself of that!
You make it look so easy! but it is not ! you do it so well. Need more tutorials on scaling <3
Scaling is hard! I even want to improve that as well! But I can try to make something about what i know!
Could you please tell me the brand/name of this sketchbook? I love the paper! TY
Woah. This is so pretty. Your so talented!!!
Thank you so much for the kind words ❤️❤️❤️
@@mwittart your so welcome!

one of my favorite songs of all time, nice art too
Thanks! One of my favorite songs too!
Congrats on feeling inspired again! And sharing it with us--yay! Loved this! Thanks so much!
Thanks! I gotta take the ebbs and flows as they come and try not to force it too much 🥰
"you're allowed to do what you want"! I didn't listen to the within reason part
you do you 😂
Very nice! Love all the shadows!
Very helpful to hear your thought process as you worked on this! Beautiful!
Yay!
My closed caption wouldn't say what you said, but I'm pretty sure I heard you right and I'm here for it! 😂❤ #WFGreens ❤❤❤
Bless you for getting my humor 😂😂❤️❤️❤️
So glad you came on my feed. I love your watercolor houses! Thank you for sharing.

Well done ! It can take a lot of willpower to get out there and paint plein air and you're doing great. Your work has charm. ( don't forget to date each sketch 😉)
I try and label the whole sketchbook for a general timeline, but going back through some I skipped around a bit so you might be on to something!
I LOVED this. the piece is lovely, but more than that, I loved hearing you talk about your process. It was so encouraging. I mostly sketch in pencil and it's easy to erase the parts that don't look right, but your words encourage me to sketch in pen instead and grow more confident and looser and play more. Thanks so much!
So surprising that the client wanted something backlit. Lovely painting, but I'm not sure it shows off the home in its best light. Your shadow work is so lovely, and other works are warmer. They didn't make the best use of your wonderful talents. Silly them. I like how you gave them the best outcome for what they requested.
Lovely! Move full videos, please. 😊
amazing 💜
How do you get the deckled edges in the water color paper? Do you just tear it? How do you do so in such a straight like when doing so?
Great question! I tear it with a ruler so you still get the deckled edge but it’s straight!
You have no idea how much cheer you brought us today - going through some tough times and this painting really got our mind off everything! Thank you
Thank you for sharing your work. I feel inspired.
Hi. Nice! Do you paint digitally?
I’ve fiddled around with procreate but I’m not very good (yet!)
