Can you please make video on pros and cons of resection versus station setup?
How much salaries there for land surveyor
Suppose youre given a Control point, how do you setup your TS orient and back sight on it to start with picking up features for your topographic map
@@arnoldtsikwa3915 hi. I can discuss that on a new video. Thanks for the idea.
Yep need base and rover for civil stuff. VRS (ntrip) is still too unreliable vertically for earthworks etc. 18i has been a game changer. Use a foot on my pole so no sink into dirt . At least here in south west Western Australia where mobile phone reception is always dodgy. VRS is still INBEATABLE for reckon of control and boundaries in new sites though.
Get the compass out, and calculate the difference in declination from the date the Portion was surveyed.
'Monument is greater than Measurement'.
Hi there. Yes I don’t think I could see the very corner of the cladding - the blue angle because of where I was setup. The corrugated metal blocked my view. But yes I agree I would normally measure directly to the corner and tape back.
How far out from that metal corner would you go to try get a square shot? Ive used my clipboard before but was being lazy 😂
Just wondering why you dont ping the cladded corner and tape back?
Good Day Sir, will you hire a surveyor/engineer from overseas?
Hey mate, do you still use this total station? Just wondering if worth purchasing one these days. Some of the new cheap Emlid dgps can now get a fix in canopy so not sure if to go that way or with the total station
Hi. No. This total station sits on the shelf with my other collections. This total station came out in the mid 1990's so getting very old. If affordable, the Leica TS16 is the latest but next step down is TS15. Still just as good. If you want to capture data, yes the Emlid would do the trick but GPS is not really accurate enough to position building corners etc. Any other features, trees, services, natural surface - The Emlid would suffice. Depends on what you are needing to map? The GPS is a 1 person operation. If you were to buy a Total Station you'd want to make sure you get the robotic features + controller so you can work by yourself.

Thanks for watching!
Watching from Canberra. Not a surveyor but I use a TS16 to site measure and set out for steel fabrication projects. I was hoping this video was going to be an accuracy comparison from the old systems to today. I’d love to see how the old theodolite stacks up against modern tech.
Hi there. Just a side by side comparison and testing for future live streams. The TS16 is an amazing machine and using the robotic and tilt pole, I can survey quite quickly. Thanks for watching. Your comment will be added to my list of future video ideas. Cheers.
Hi. I'm a surveyor from Malaysia. I love your stuff but the way. Have you found any "unique" survey marks?

Thanks for being a loyal supporter of the channel! Merry Xmas to you!
Really enjoy watching your videos. Brings back memories of my surveying years. Lots of high tech now, when I started in the seventies we were still using a steel band to measure and dug BIG holes to find GIP's. Computers were not a thing back then so I often found myself sitting under a tree doing manual calculations with my HP25C calculator!!
Thanks for your comment. Yes I can't imagine the surveying experience without the technology we have today! Although when I started in the 1990's my old boss still used a Wild T1 with geodometer on top and we occasionally used a steel chain. I still use a 41cx. See my latest short. th-cam.com/users/shortsRfpPgO0bf9I
Good
Thanks for watching!
I live in the upper midwest and as a kid, I found around 20 of the old 1940's USGS survey reference point markers over the years. We had 3-wheelers plus bailed township and county section line roadways every summer) What was interesting is once that I figured out the grid pattern I noticed many more were missing either due to removal or possibly having been silted under over the years.
That is a really interesting observation - thanks for sharing! Thanks for following the channel.
What is the total height of this building and what is the serving work done?
Spire height, 172.5 m (570 ft) -- I think its always been added to. Who knows when it will be finished.
Good morning sir I'm a surveyor technician from pakistan . Now I'm working in Saudi Arabia . Can you send me your WhatsApp number please.
Hi. You can send me a message through the channel if you have any questions.
@globalsurveyor. You've got potential!
Thanks! I'm just trying to show the awesome profession of surveying to the world. Beneficial for us all going forward!
Imagine no GPS !!!!!
Yes I know. I don't wish to stop using the total station. but the GPS does save so much time!
@@globalsurveyor one day, discuss how the heck they did this without electronics. I cannot imagine the time and effort they had to have spent!
Hey 👋, how do you charge for a job like that ??
Hi. Not very easy to do unfortunately and when you quote sometimes the clients cannot understand why the fees are so high. I guess making these videos may provide some insight into the difficulties surveyors face and why extra time is required to undertake surveys like this. Some days you find marks, other days you don't and some times you need to return to have another look. A Surveyors we must keep looking until we can be certain the mark has disappeared. In this instance, no chance of the mark going as it was on rock, but it was covered in a lot of debris so hard work to uncover. Glad I found it.
What amazing adventurous lives surveyors lead. Finding that Mark, made more century ago, must have been wonderful
Yes I was very excited and needed that mark to complete my survey measurements.
Impressive
Thanks for the videos, I really like them and thanks for doing this one in landscape mode so it fits a TV screen better. It’s a lot more pleasing to watch that way. Im a geomatics student in Alaska and it’s great to see a different part of the world and pick up some tips from a great surveyor, cheers!
Thanks @dennisjones7942 - My pleasure. 2025 will bring some better videos in landscape mode with Xmas - bringing some better camera gear. I too prefer the landscape mode. I have a few videos in Landscape mode - check them out. Thanks for watching all the way from Alaska - that's so awesome!
How difficult it must have been before modern equipment. How hard to get the pyramid ground work just right😂
Yes today we have it so much easier. Thanks for your comment and thanks so much for watching!
Excelent equipment.
Hey mate, was just wondering if you think it’s a good idea to do a year of tafe and go from there. As in if I like it a fair bit I’ll probably try go to uni?
Hi. TAFE will definitely give you some credits towards the uni course. Not sure how much but I'd say possibly most of 1st year. I studied at USQ by correspondence and worked and studied part time. Takes a little longer but if you are working you get $$ also. I can send you a contact at USQ if you like.
Out in the serenity of the aussie bush, love it. Excited for my transition into surveying from the full time office.
That's awesome. You'll love it! Keep me posted!
Why was it super exciting? I don't get it.

Heya global surveyor! Thanks for all the work you put in, really loving these surveying vids. I've been trying to learn surveying and sorta wrapped my head around how a surveyor would set control through traversing and occupying stations, but I see surveyors on construction sites coordinating reflective targets and can't figure it out. What's the process behind that?
@@blinkin7641 Hi. The reflective targets / stickers work just like a prism on a tripod. You can measure to them. And so they can be used to position yourself on a construction site or anywhere provided you can see say a min of 3. The best thing about the targets is that they can be placed anywhere but you need to measure to them and have them coordinated with your site first.
Best way is to go learn it at a college, understand how bearing and distances translates back to easting and northing coordinates. Then after, work with a surveyor/firm to learn this via being an assistant at the early stages.
