BattleTech has been released in multiple languages over the years. Everyone probably knows about the various German translations, but some of the languages might surprise you. Some products were even released in Finnish, and we’ll take a brief look at those today.

Oh. And I’d assume it’s also a good method of approaching the enemy the fastest way possible. As you don’t need to rotate as much.
How did you get that mech? Salvage!
I, too, came to settle on Clan Hell's Horses as a main faction. I guess it's a good thing I grew up in the muscle car era and painting flames is second nature. Well met, Trothkin.
Wow thanks.!❤ . Mathematically correct. If you think about it you just squish the hexes more straight or in line to the target. Two lines intersect is clear cut. Plus you get to choose which way to count so avoid the clutter along one way. More tips please!
Played my first round of Alpha Strike on Hex Map when the Clan Kickstarter was delivered... It was a eye opener. Fast, fun, big and challenging. I love it! :-)
I'm also a big DCMS fan. And it's fun to put together thematically coherent units and figuring out how they work. My first showing with a Kurita unit loaded up with C3 was... not great. But there were some standout moments.
people play alpha strike without the hex matt? who are these people?!
This oddly enough one favorite lance next to the command lances and strikers lance.

I fucking love the third set of rules. It just feels better. You don't lose all your damage if you miss, and you don't have to roll per hit.
In my experience, introtech mediums also take too long to kill each other due to heat limitations of introtech and poor damage output. Plinking at each other with 7 average damage per turn while either of you have ~150 armor can easily get tedious.
As a Statistics guy appreciate your doing looking at the numbers for us. Fascinating that you did it using Monte Carlo rather than doing the math. In either case I have to say after using the alternate die roll method last weekend in a convention game, even though the crits were more frequent, you are right it does fell more like BattleTech in granularity and at the same time felt it really sped up the game and kept up the pacing and excitement. Loved Classic BT,but, especially with Hvy and Aslt mechs felt like I was just chopping wood. Loving Alpha Strike and the alternate dice. I am going to try the Pilot Die method this weekend. I like rolling fewer dice and not having to search around to match up the colored dice.
I'm an Inner Sphere guy at heart, but when I got my hands on some Clan Mechs, I started looking around. I ended up with the Ghost Bears and fell into a deeeeeep rabbit hole researching their typical Mechs ^^ Luckily, their machines were some of my personal favourites (things like the Kodiak, Mad Dog and the Executioner), so that coupled with the interesting lore made for a great combination. Of course, since then I have begun to do the same for any faction I am interested in playing, so I've started to separate my collection into different boxes to become different forces, mainly based on the lore. Which also lead tome buying more Mechs. So... there's a bit of a risk right there ^^
You're missing out with not playing a Thug. The thug is a more powerful and durable Warhammer. Ugly or not, it's a good mech. Also, don't forget Proxys. You can use just about any mech as a proxy.
I enjoy ugly mechs but the Thug is, unfortunately, the wrong kind of ugly to me. I guess I’m most of all a ”hahaha what were they thinking” kind of guy
I am happy to have found your channel. I too have found 3d terrain pretty and makes the battle more immersive but does make finding lines of sight confusing and have been having to remove the 3d terrain to see the hexes underneath to confirm. Overall, great video and a lot of good wisdom in each battle.
Your ralli English was absolutely peak. Perfect. Obligatory torille!
@@derekburge5294 haha, I tried. Thanks!
Got my friend Jani to find me a copy post haste and he actually managed to find one in what looks like pristine condition. Thanks for sharing this video! Also, they did the same with all the Map Packs in our German releases, skipping the first one and going straight to the second (and onward from there).
One trick we use in my group is to put the record sheet inside a page protector and then use a dry erase marker to track your stats. When you’re done just wipe it off and you can use the sheet over again. Very useful in a campaign setting.
Awesome! I love this!

Hey, thank you soooo much! I'm really happy that you enjoy my apps. Some additional info: When you click on the "more" button at the bottom of the Recog Trainer screen, you can enable "Ace Spotter" mode (hard mode) and also set up a Time Attack game. Clicking on the "?" in the GATOR Trainer, lets you configure some stuff like dice colors. All of the apps were made for a mobile phone's vertical screen layout, which is why they look a little strange on a large computer screen 😅 And last but not least, on my website you can also find a free player aid PDF for classic Battletech, solo practice rules and a travel version of the game. Again, thank you for playing with the apps and creating Battletech content!
Great vid.

Thank you very much ☺️ I feel really lucky that there is this amazing local Battletech community where I live.
Neat
Horse's are cool, if you like the Clans. But choosing an Inner Sphere faction is the best choice. While im no fan of House Kurita, the really do have some of the coolest mechs! My Factions are Comstar and im juuuuussssttt starting a Clan force. Haven't settled on one yet though i like Hell's Horses, Snow Raven, Ghost Bears (won't be the Bears though as that's my son's faction), and maybe Ice Hellions. Probably settle on Hell's Horses though gh, as combined arms are my play style. Plus the red and yellow and mohawks are effing cool! The Ballius is ugly AF thoygh so ill skip that haha😂
Factions are only important for your color scheme. What you field is what you wanna field.
It is a fun way to pass time. For example, if you are on a long commute to work.
@@onerosarmakat4456 I just did 100 mechs on the RECOG trainer on my way to work today :)
Awesome! This is exactly why I made the apps. I also commute a lot and can't always play the tabletop game, so I thought I'd create something for my phone to stay connected to the game.
This is FANTASTIC!!! I absolutely love it. I feel like I'm going to have find some way to use this. Great find! I definitely missed a few playing along with you, lol.
The reason rolling once has the same odds as MAR is because 2d6 has the same probability curve as 2d6. If you roll 100 times and compare it to rolling 300 times, you'll get about the same percentage of 7 or better. The only difference is in gameplay when the result of a single attack matters more than what the average is. Because 0 *or* 5 damage is more swingy for one roll than 0 *to* 5 damage. But they MUST have the same average because they're both 2d6 vs the same target number. The same with the Pilot Die, it is a D6, and you're adding it to another D6. MDR is the only one with different output, and only a bit really. That one surprised me, I'd missed the implications of the minimum damage 1 when reading the book.
RIP the article you reference is gone.
@@cargo_vroom9729 damn, that’s a shame.
Monthly Battletech in Helsinki, you say... Would there, perhaps, be a discord group or facebook or what-have-you?
@@derekburge5294 certainly, I think this Discord code should work: KvC8DbAe
We've got this thing we do where we play a sort of 'limited' format game with blind boxes where you pick some blind boxes and play with one of the mechs inside for prizes. Over time it's turned into a not just an event for the game store but a trade event where folks bring their piles of grey to trade, so even if you end up opening mechs you don't like you can usually find something you will!
I imagine this is a must in Europe, since CGL goes out of its' way to make it hard for overseas customers to obtain their products at a reasonable price
Nice and concise!

Love the video, subbed! For your Kuritan mechs, what paints and colors did you use? Also basing material? I’m looking to do a first themed unit and love the colors I also ended up picking up the support lance for the same reason you did, Kuritan force but went in the direction of Sword of Light scheme
@@MAKAK47 thanks! The Kuritan mechs are an exercise in lazin-AHEM, efficiency. The base coat is a mix of 2:1 Ghillie Dew and Camo Cloak speedpaints (Ghillie Dew by itself was a bit too bright for my tastes). Then stripes with Camo Cloak. It’s camo so blotchiness doesn’t matter. The weapons are Polished Silver and a wash of Strong Tone, plus some touchups after. Basing: 1. Brown paint + rocks 2. GF9 Dirt Foundation 3. GF9 Spring Undergrowth 3. That weird spongy Summer Undergrowth stuff by Army Painter (is it… actual lichen?) 4. Grass tufts for an even lusher effect I also like to paint the front hex with bone white and add Roman numerals to the sides if I have multiples of the same chassis in the same colors.
@@almostgoodvariant Thanks a lot for the info! I live and die by speedpaints, I'm not going to spend the time to paint one mech that it takes me to do an entire lance, star or even level 2, speed paints are excellent tools

The box set is a "Kurita" force - The Cyclops and Thug are "Comstar" Lend Lease mechs to the DCMS, Post 4th Succession war.
since the games inception, ALL units are available to ALL factions. there are some units that are more likely to be used by a particular faction. but unit limitations are only by era - not by faction.
@@bruced648 True that the game does not restrict you on the mech type you want to play, Lore wise however it is different. Depending on the faction some mechs may not be available. So if you are trying to build faction accurate forces you will have to adhere to said list.
@sep0319 40 years of playing this game has shown me that there is a lot of player misconceptions about the lore. if your version of the lore, has restrictions and limitations, I'm glad it works for you. but from the published sourcebooks, those limitations are minimal to non- existant.
@@bruced648 The beauty of this game is that it's lore rules are non-binding as for faction mech composition since you have been playing for as long as I have you know there is a "Table" for that. :D
@sep0319 I'm sure there is a table for this conversation, if not a rule and a 2D6 roll we need to make.
You videos are great, I particularly enjoy the videos about the often confused rules and how to speed up the game. Keep it up!
@@theledzep thanks!
Totally agree with this, and the added bonus is that it leads to your minis having stories behind them. I have three mechs that a friend from my hometown gave me when I was back visiting (a Griffin, a Bushwacker, and a Crockett) because he didn't particularly want them, so I used them as a test for a generic green scheme that worked out pretty well. They are now permanent residents of my BattleTech travel case and some of my favorite models to run.
@@matthewbro3 exactly. BattleTech is all about stories and how you acquired a mech can totally be a part of it.

this is a very good and reasonably comprehensive video. Within the scope of the video the only thing that I would have added would be examples of partial cover/woods for mechs against vehicles/infantry that are on 1 level higher than the elevation the mech is standing on. The mech would still get partial cover because while the vehicle/infantry is on ground 1 level higher it is still at "head" height of the mech therefore partial cover or woods still apply. A video about LOS near or on the edge of terrain would be a good companion piece to this one.
the book that comes with, a game of armored combat, has a page showing examples of LoS, and asks you to figure them out, but fails to give you the answers, so you just have to assume you are correct so this video was very helpful
Excellent video!
