I used only an iPhone 11 on trail (can't afford a drone too) with a tiny 50mm cheap tripod, so apologies - edited with FCPX. About 20 seconds of the video was by others to make a couple of points more relevant, map at the beginning, weighing scales and the log fire scene.
I’ve previously felt that narrating on-the-go was the best way, as post production just felt a little too contrived, doing it live just felt more “real”. There was far too much wind for this to happen, so - see how it goes.

    I may be mistaken, but I think I read (on reddit) that you stuck to your keto diet on this trip. I've been on a keto diet for 1 year now, and I'm assuming I would have to stop while being on a longer trek. How did you manage on the Kungsleden food-wise?

    • @_javelin
      @_javelin หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi, managed largely to stick to it, although the middle section proved more difficult. Thankfully the boat man, Bjorn, managed to get the hut at Kvikkjokk to sell me some cheese as well as a fellow hiker. Honestly, I've never felt so good on trail as this hike. Other trails I go on are much much longer and I no longer follow keto because of the difficulties on trail. You want to look at this channel th-cam.com/play/PLEu_UfyDKJALXcpeEtToxO9NEpwJKTKX_.html He doesn't specifically suggest keto, but in effect that what his advise suggest with regards nutritional efficiency.

    Nice vid J Hey you started solo i think ? Did you hook up with a little crew about Idlewild and stay with them for the whole trail ? Did that work best for you, rather then solo ? Also just wondered, those nasty feet gashes, did you just tape them and press on, then eventually they self heal ? Cheers man

      I unintentionally met someone I knew from the CDT at the border, he had the same 100 day aspiration as I, we kept together all the way except from mile 1325-1700 where he got off trail to see friends. We’re both independent, and we mainly kept within a couple of miles of each other and got to the same camp most of the time. For me, that’s far better than it being a totally solo hike, I was just lucky that he was such a great dude to be with, doing a sub 100 day hike inevitably makes having a larger trail family unlikely, nor having a social hiking experience like the majority. But it worked for me. My feet problems were caused thru trying some Inov8 shoes in the desert, they didn’t work well so I switched to my usual Lone Peaks. Taping them didn’t last longer than a few miles due to the heat and sweat, so just had to man up for a few more days. Will be ditching the Altras for Topos for my next hike lighterpack.com/r/e5hd9x

      @Andy-ku3jy 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Oh interesting. Yeah tis tricky I’m not so interested in the Tramily thing. But not being solo all the time would be good too. Hopefully I can find someone who matches my speed roughly - 18 ish miles a day. Ultra Lone Peaks seem v dependable for so many.

      Really appreciate that, there’s loads of PCT videos around now, mainly it’s from people filming it as their first Thru hike, they do a superb job describing their journey and how their eyes are opened to a whole new world. Once that’s over, and you’ve completed a few trails, you can’t “compete” with such a compelling storyline, so I can just show the everyday “monotony” of beauty. Besides that, I’m crap at narration. Thanks

    • @_javelin
      @_javelin ปีที่แล้ว

      The normal suggestion is within 30 feet of your tent, naturally bears are frightened of humans, so this is close enough to deter them. In relation to the PCT, obviously follow local notices about specific areas with concern, use bear boxes if available at any fixed campground. But the main advice I would give is try to avoid camping alone if you are worried, personally, I wasn’t ever concerned and slept with my can just inside my vestibule.

The distant one will always be so special because things will never ever be the same again. Enjoy.

I remember some of the conversations about electrical theory with you. Im still in contact with some close friends from the trail but I havent been on social media. I got married recently and we have been working on building a house for a couple years now. She wants to go on a thru hike as much as I do so its just a matter of time now, but everythings so expensive now I wish we had met earlier and had a place already but hopeful that when we get there it will help open up the door to more time spent travelling.
