The acknowledgement of country was not necessary and if you were as fussy about pronunciation as you claim you'd know thatthe nautical pronunciation of coxswain is not phonetic but said as "cox'n". It is also widely known that place names in New South Wales do not contain apostrophes. The suburbs of St Marys, Milsons Point and St Peters are prime examples.

"This is a country that only got around to legalizing same sex marriage in 2017" What the hell has that got to do with the history of a bloody cottage? I was out of here at this brilliant and totally useless observation! Give this one a miss folks!

Right out of the box, you started with a racist, factually incorrect, bald faced lie- and things went downhill from there. Let’s start with a bit of truth telling, shall we? There was no Stone Age utopia here before the first fleet. Captain Arthur Phillip had explicit orders from the King that natives were to be treated as British subjects with all legal rights and protection, and every practical kindness- and he did his level best to carry out his orders to the letter. Aborigines frequently fought amongst themselves in their own clans, and carried out genocidal warfare against other tribes, particularly in times of droughts. Furthermore had Britain not committed to being here, Admiral LaPerouse, whose fleet arrived in Botany Bay not long after the first fleet arrived, had orders to lay claim, and the French would have colonized the eastern seaboard of Australia. Given what happened in other French colonies in this time period, and later ,it is doubtful that people of Aboriginal heritage would have survived into the 20th century . Today, if you are of Aboriginal descent and are still living in disadvantage, it is a direct result of decisions and actions of your parents and your self- because the rest of Australia has been bending over backwards to help you to help yourself for a very long time. We devote billions to giving a leg up every year to a tiny fraction of the population with the only desire being to see people step up, stand on their own feet, and own responsibility for their own lives, that we ideally want to be long, healthy and happy. If Europeans really invaded Australia in the 18th century, then the war is long over- and Aborigines lost. The people who lived in the Sydney area prior to 1788 are long dead . Their distant and only fractionally related descendants today , provably by DNA testing, are only entitled to the same fair go that every other Australian citizen is entitled to. I think we are long overdue to start living the dream of the late Dr Martin Luther King- to treat people by contents of their hearts, character and conduct, and not by their race, creed, or colour of their Skins .

Interesting historic tid-bit. I found it interesting that you would acknowledge the indigenous owners but didn't acknowledge the 60,000 young Australian's who died and 160,000 soldiers who were captured or injured in the Great War, my Grandfather being one of them. After all, they were fighting to protect the country and the traditional owners. When I was a little boy at Central Station with my grandfather, he pointed out the chip in the marble. It was one of only a few times he ever spoke about the war. He told me that some of his mates were involved in the incidents, they all died in the war. It's sad that these young men were remembered as hooligans when in fact they were only demanding better conditions. None of the young soldiers were under the impression that there was signing up for a holiday cruise or something glamorous. The horrors of the war in Europe were well known. It's sad that there isn't a small plaque to honour the young men who were only demanding better conditions, rather, history has forgotten them.

The NSW Geographical Names Board has been renaming places, especially roads and bridges by removing the apostrophe and the s from possessive names. Maybe they thought there would be uproar if they changed the name here to Cadman Cottage.

In my time as Readers Ticket holder at the library of NSW i stumbled over a directive to John Cadman and his duties from the government. And one of them was not indeed to worry too much about any sort of small boat, but to gather up any sets of oars or any large piece of cloth that could be used as a sail and 'Hold them in a secure place overnight'. It seems the extension to the back building was used for this purpose.

As the owner of this channel I hope you don't mind the following link. There's no money my way involved. Mind you, I'm not sure whether YT allows it but here's my complimentary take on Cadmans Cottage. They are kind of rare. As for the lack of apostrophe, I can tell you that it's part of the Geographical Names Board of NSW. Who'd have thought there's rules about grammar in Sydney? Surely not. th-cam.com/video/DJBashPy6s4/w-d-xo.htmlsi=c7OYvI0YH9DthEO9
