Domingo always sings an E one third above middle C as Puccini wrote it, rather than go up to a high C as most tenors do. I wish more tenors would do the same and respect Puccini's original. He know what he was doing!

Dislike Domingo in this. His German is unidiomatic and the role does not require latin/italiante anything. What it requires is a legitimate Heldentenor with a great voice and well versed in stylistic German opera singing including fluency in the language, without accent.

Genau das ist riesen Problem der abendländische Musikkultur geworden: ein genialer Sänger möchte Dirigent werden, hat aber keine Ahnung wie das Ding funktioniert. Jeder Student in 2. Semester der Dirigierstudium macht das x mal besser, bekommt aber eher nie so eine Chance. So eine Schande!

Maybe the only Carmen's final scene perfectly directed, thanks to Franco Zeffirelli's unique genius for understandig opera. Great singers like Domingo or Meier give their best when they are directed with intelligence on stage. Bravi!!!
