This is an old one, made in 2020. It was the first tune I made in SuperCollider that I liked. Fully synthesized. All elements synthesized from scratch. No idea why anyone would do this. (It took 2 1/2 hours to throw this together in SC and would probably take 15 minutes in a DAW.) Source code at www.patreon.com/synthdef nathan.ho.name/ nathanho.bandcamp.com/

Inspired by Microsoft Music Producer. Unlike MMP, all sounds are synthesized. It's mainly a test of a new cymbal algorithm I've been working on. (There isn't any actual MIDI here) Source: www.patreon.com/synthdef nathan.ho.name/ nathanho.bandcamp.com/

This was awesome. Glad it happened while i was around!
Beautiful
Awesome video ! These sound great. Trying to make a kick that is made from only self resonating filters like RLPF or RHPF as its seems the classic 808 kick was done like this but...no dice. new get that slight ring out :/ b
I managed to do it a long time ago, but one barrier is that RLPF's behavior under modulation of filter coefficients isn't very "analog." It's not impossible but I find the 909 formula easier to control.
@@synth_def Ok this is good news and bad. Good that Im not in fact crazy as Ive be trying with crap results for awhile now and bad because yea it would be awesome if it responded in a " analog " way... sad news
a suggestion to simply var sig = SinOsc.ar(56, 0.1).tanh; * env very very close but not 100% "analog" yet close enough or me*)
Fuck yes to Qebrus. Good to see u carrying on the legacy of absolutely batshit insane tunes. Excited for the new tunes. Your set in santa cruz last weekend was bonkers
Thanks so much!
Can you make a tutorial on cool FM synthesis sounds, please?
you're total insane

Is there anything this guy can't Supercollide?
hahahahaha
can I have the source code please? btw I have infinite health and can regenerate my physical body inifite times so feel free to kill me bich
nice jam
what's up braindance - excellent work
you may not be a mother but you always deliver
Hi Nathan, I came here to check why my snares sound 'meh' the first evaluation and then when I evaluate the snare again it gets the punchy attack (only when it is in the tail of the previous snare). I see in this is the same in your video.. The actual first snare sound is not that hard, but quickly evaluating it a couple of times gives it a nice 'tack'-sound. I can imagine the tail of the previous synth maybe adds something that it clips. But I am wondering if you can give more insight on why this happens, why you evaluate the snare in rapid succession and how do I get this 'tack'-sound immediately at first evaluation. Thanks in advance for your reply
If it sounds better when it's clipping, just boost it and run it intentionally through .clip2, best to put that after any percussive envelopes.
@@synth_def Ah thanks that definitely helped spicing up my sounds :D
so satisfying!
damn there's a minion pfp user in the comments asking a supercollider TH-camr to make botanica. what a day
one of my colleagues is an electroacoustic/acousmatic wizard and she is obsessed with all things minions lol
Woww🎉 nice one like always! Did u use sidechain techniques?
Yes. I used manual triggers rather than envelope detection, but the effect is the same.
@@synth_def What UGens are involved in doing something like this?
@@daniellouis1444 Just Env for volume automation and a trigger input with triggers manually sent from sclang, nothing fancy.
@@synth_def Thanks for the reply! So if I understand correctly, the trigger is embedded in the same Routine/Pattern that is sequencing the Drums, and sending this signal to trigger the Env that ducks the pad?
@@daniellouis1444 Correct
try making botanica in supercollider, would be cool to see, and challenge to you
polytwister is difficult.. not-twisted shape is duocylinder?
Polytwisters are Boolean operations on cycloplanes, which are the Cartesian product of a disk and a plane. I'm slowly working on a paper that will hopefully clarify everything.
love where this one developed
zero crossing ring mod sounds amazing!
This is liquid gold man
Wooooow ! this is huge ! Any code repo out there ?

you're starting to out-richard devine richard devine
Thank you, very flattered by this! To fully get there I just need to buy all the products in his videos.
@@synth_def Lol, yeah the marketing has become a bit much. Plunging everyone into a financial abyss while there's a free Supercollider out there
You hit the ceiling at sound design, congratulations

whoa, so good
wow
This is what I imagine Jim O'Rourke does when he tries to challenge Kayn. Fantastic patch.
Wow! Sounds crazy!
40:07 LFGGGG!
Would be interesting to add some FM synthesis in the loop! UPD: okay, probably you try it a bit around the start of the video
wow, very inspiring. I've read your post from 2023. Do you feel like this could be a stochastich method of synthesis & composition aswell?
awesome 👍
I hope you come back to this.. To me you've gotten a pretty good feeling of storytelling, or some kind of conversational back and forth.. The sounds not just interesting as sounds, but seeming to carry some semantic content.. maybe even a conversation that was lightly adversarial.
3 patches in a row? so you've been cooking...
man you have an unbelievable range
lovelyyyyyy
I rediscovered NHHall recently and i love it!!!
Are those SynthDef's source code available open sourcely?
