Wet timing belt replaced on a 2017 Citroen Ds3 including oil pump pick up cleared of belt debris.
New auxiliary belt wasn't available at the time of filming so for demonstration purposes the old belt was refitted. A new belt was fitted before vehicle left the workshop. 😀

Here in Portugal, i've supported 60% of a new engine swap and i don't know if the new engine has solved the problem. And anyone know tell me it. Please don't buy this cars!
Great video thanks, but why didn't you chock the rear wheels and leave a raised jack under the cross member for extra safety? I would have flushed the engine before refilling with oil.
Much more complicated than changing a wheel.. I think I'll leave this to the experts
Whats the purpose of the red things that sit in the cam sprockets? Do they make any difference instead of just using the pins?
@@RaifRaif85 They are installing cups to help ease the belt onto the pulleys without scraping the oil proof coating on the belt.
Wie viel Zeit haben gebraucht um diese Arbeit zu erledigen?
Hi I have a 2013 vw blue motion golf and need to remove the passenger seat. Thee are 2 connectors which I’m able to disconnect the lager one but not the smalls one, can you help Thanks Dan
Excellent video, still cant believe someone thought it would be a great idea to put a rubber belt inside an engine splashed in hot oil 🤔
2.3??
2.0 Ecoblue 😁
@@bwautocare oh I have a 2020 and it’s a 2.3 turbo. But that’s all they offer here in the states. I bet that 2.0 is sick.
Mechanics let the side down with shoddy workmanship and high bills.
what mileage is this vehicle as looks like all servicing schedule has been overlooked - that serpentine belt should have been changed 10s of thousands of miles ago - looks like its done 90k, I always change mine at every cambelt scheduled service regardless. On my 2003 VW Sharan, service interval for dry belt was every 40k / 4 years which ever is sooner. Always had it changed at 40K with a new water pump and new serpentine belt and never caused me issue. Very good video - personally with this fantastic video I would change mine at 40k on this wet belt system / 4 years - whichever comes sooner myself as it looks like an easy job for most DIYers and once you have done it once, muscle memory will kick in so every subsequent change will become easier and easier - subscribed and liked
With this decision, Ford and other manufacturers pollute nature, as they often have to change belts, and sometimes due to belt rupture and engines. All this is garbage that pollutes nature... Let's all unite and sue Ford so that they come up with a more environmentally friendly solution. 😅🤣🤣🤣
how often do I need to do this procedure? What are the factory's mileage regulations before belt replacement and when do you actually need to carry out a timing belt replacement service?
WHAT A COMPLETE SHIT ENGINE
How many Miles/km run? Okay Not the best decision buyin such engine but somehow its halfway alright in the Diesel as theres nothing totally wrecked up on Engine itself i guess.
Looks like 3000 euro job
Why would you run an timing belt in oil chain yes belt no
Shit box's on wheels
wet belts are not an never will be a good idea... years ago had a belt been contaminated with oil you had to bin it whether new or old.
One of the worst design principles of the internal combustion engine ever. I know I'll build an engine that combines a material that we cannot guarantee the life expectancy when submerged in oil with such a varied temp range. I guess the accounting depth thought when the engine self destruction we can profit from the sale of a new engine or a new vehicle. Almost commercial suicide. I just hope whoever signed this crap off for manufacture left a note before his/her death jump.
At least the sump is easy to remove than on a Ford Ecoboost.
Wet belts are a stupid idea. Even if they actually lasted the 150k miles the replacement is loads more expensive than an external belt, but with no advantages.
Transhit engine
why can"t ford bring this to the US? many wants this diesel
Ужасно
Some company on here has a fleet of about 25 vans 7 are of the road with blown engines in the US they are recalled but not in the uk appalling design
New serp belt wasn't available at the time of filming so for demonstration purposes, the old belt was refitted. A new belt was fitted before vehicle left the workshop. 👍
when the speakers have them cracks this wont fix it because the water will still find its way down the speaker ....rather buy aluminium adapter rings and new speakers to fix it
Why did you put an old belt back on
Hii, is this timing belt with oil like ford 1,0 ecoboost
Yes!
I have the 2017 with 2.0 ecoblue wetbelt serviced by myself more regular than recomended with correct oil and filter, never noticed anything in the oil pan, ive done 58000miles with no other problems and this milage includes 2 none stop runs to spain 2000miles and same on return journey not missed a beat, ive just spoke to ford to trade it in for another he has one with 80,000 miles but said he would recomend changing belts every 60000 miles so he understood when i said i dont want it unless he takes £2000 of for the next belt change in 40000 miles i dont have that much in the van he said. I said to him your selling me something that states in the book that belts last 150000 miles so false advertising, nothing i can do he said. So i asked if the van has gone in for a recall then it shouldn’t happen again if you done some mods. Your asking the wrong person he said, i said no i’am asking the right person as your the one thats priced it and selling it to me with the promise it lasting all these miles between services. So all they can do is replace the belt on recall but thats not addressing the problem only extending it for another 60000 miles so its not really a recall its just an bloody service.its a con and i told him to fuck off i’ll get a transporter.
sorry i missed the mileage
How many hours work compared to a dry belt I wonder
Good video and explanation...thank you....
The wet belt engine & the electric vehicles will be the death of ford motors Remember the unbreakable ford banana engine Now we have a wet belt system that is shite & fords customer service is even shitter Thats a recipe for disaster in the kong term
Are these vans worth buying ,second hand ?
Une belle merde, la courroie qui beigne dans l’huile 🤢🤮🤮🤮
Amazing video, but what a pig of a procedure
Insanity
Great video but what advantages does a wet belt have over a standard set up or cam chain. Manufacturers seem to foist all these brilliant ideas on the unsuspecting public then run a mile when they go wrong.
Ford claims that wet belt reduces frictions compared to timing chain from Duratorq engines. I'm kinda curious what material that replaces rubber that can withstand hot temperature and doesn't go brittle at high speed and high temperatures...
A slight save in fuel less friction a few pounds saved but costs thousands in repairs
This is yet another example of why ford are absolute shite when looking for a replacement for my mk2 focus estate 1.6tdci i avoided all ford made engines and bought the 2.0tdci (hdi) dw10 engine built in france by peugeot citroen and shes a bute smooth as butter not a wet belt insite
Are these engines suitable for Ford?🧐
@@Sfgbvjffj what do you mean the peageot hdi 2.0 diesel its fitted to mondeos focus c max kuga etc also many citroens and peageots they are a very goid engine mine is 163bhp as my car is titanium x
Proof that yet again design engineers have no clue regarding maintenance/ repairs on most vehicles . Closest most get to getting their hands dirty is ink from a pen 😳. Excellent video 👍🏻😉👏👏👏👏
Obligar al que lo diseñó a hacer el trabajo, veríamos como se la ingenian para que sea mas fácil. Que ganas de empeorar lascosas.
Who ever designed this engine needs ****ed and oh lets put the oil filter on it's side. These strainers get blocked on all wet belt motors, Ford really must do better.
I did 40 years in the motor trade, to me, a rubber based drive belt partially submerged in oil does not bode well from the word go!
The Old 2.5 di Transit what's easily cover half a million miles and some on the original clutch I used to work on these vans 30 years ago if you are careful driver they would last forever unlike today's buckets of crap 2.5 di best Transit diesel engine ever😅😅😮😮😢😢😊😊😊
Ford what a joke my 22 plate 2 years old with only 35000 clutch failed now i am told it won’t be under warranty yet they fail to understand 3 year manufacture warranty is still in place
Only in the first year is everything covered, the first year is unlimited mileage, the second and third years have a mileage limit. That is why it won't be covered, the manufacturer takes into account reasonable wear and tear of components seen as consumables which can be adversely affected due to variations in driving styles. If the average clutch has a life of 100k yours would have a 1/3 less life than it did 2 years ago, assuming you drive normally and don't drive constantly slipping the clutch which neither of you can prove to the other. Fitting a new clutch to a 2 year old vehicle would therefore come under a betterment clause. It sucks and you've been unlucky, it is not the usual service life but best you can hope for is a good will contribution.
dont ride the clutch next time
Nissan unlimited 5 year warranty after which can be extended to 8 years with payment.
Same here! My Transit Custom is 2 years old and the pressure plate said goodbye to me..
Other than putting back the badly cracked serpentine belt it was a good instructional video
Highly recommend Ben for Wet Belt replacement, because he goes the extra mile ensuring the job is done properly including overnight curing of the seals before adding oil etc. Also fair value. Bearing in mind this is a once in 100,000 task I wanted it done properly. Thanks Ben.
Once every 100 000 ?? My mates van lost the motor at 57000 because the belt gave up I wouldn’t trust that belt past 40 000 ……
@@Aladinscavebosses van shit itself at 32k or something stupid like that 😂
These are very sensitive to oil type used. If you use an engine oil with high levels of detergent in it the belt will deteriorate faster. 2.0 TDCi is not consumer proof.
@@kularace7351 thanks good point which makes sense - any recommendations please of oil brand etc.? 🙏 😊
@@cotswoldmusings I am looking at options myself for my van. It is a trade off usually because a lower detergent oil needs more ofte to be changed and dpf might suffer, but they also usually have better shear and temperature protection. I'm looking at more expensive stuff like Royal Purple HPS. Have not decided.
Wet belts….simple question…WHY..????
Seems ford want these to fail, my focus 72reg was collected for its first service with 11,000 miles on clock, I put a mark on oil filter before hand and checked oil colour, it was returned with same filter and oil looked the same as before service, I took it back and confronted them about this, they tried to tell me it had been done so I produced photos of filter etc , they took it back in and changed them telling me the mechanic had forgotten to do the oil change,
Unfortunately this happens, one needs to do the oil and filter oneself, or as you did - leave tell-tales, but even then you have to go through the confrontation stage later if you are charged for work not done. It is just best to cut them out of the loop altogether if you have the know how. Happened to me in 1980 with a brand new motorcycle at it's first dealer service. I've been doing it myself ever since, God damn them.
Same with my golf, i think its come from under carpet/floor seal. I will try this solution. Many thanks
