You are correct I left yugioh after 2019 due to meta state and other games coming out But I'm slowly coming back I love blue eyes But it was exosister and adventure archetypes that i saw and was curious I tend to like mid tier or rouge decks Sad appo got banned for those mid and lower tier decks Understand it being a problem at high tier play but its just petty good at lower tiers

Competitive YGO is fine; it’s the unlikeable meta at the moment that sucks. The lack of an anime series is also hurting its ability to bring in newcomers. They dubbed the Rush Duel anime but didn’t even bring the game over here lol. Odd decisions are being made around the game.

Such a great video yo! I think its sooo easy for most to see the negatives of the games because they re not getting what THEY want themselves. But it doesn't take away from how dope and fun the game can still be. The negatives are just always louder to people, which is unfortunate. But I LOVE this game

I do want to add a bit of two sense in here, but only because I've had plenty of experience in getting into, out of, back into, and even understanding the meta while still playing casual. This may be long but I hope it adds some insight to the struggles most people feel and why nobody really wants to play. A while back I took up yugioh in school and one of the things I did with a lot of my friends was play yugioh with a deck I would scrap together from a tin and a few old cards I bought. It was enough to make them actually struggle with me as the terror of mirror force was ever present and had them working to try to play around it while I tried to find unique ways to bring out monsters my deck wasn't built for in legit and crazy ways. I actually ended up getting out a bloom diva in a deck that ran slifer, mirror forces, millenium shield, etc., and one aria. It was always amazing to find new ways to use the deck and have fun, turn based duels with my friends while figuring out strategies against one another across multiple duels. It was when my friend said that he wanted to start running competetive that things began taking a turn for the worse. It was a constructed red-eyes deck vs my mashed together jumble of cards. Even with him going first, it would still be an otk as he managed to burn me to death before I even got a chance to take my turn. What turned from a fun back and forth across multiple duels turned into an absolute washout with against the only deck I had and could build. There was no playing around it, no figuring it out, just about every duel was an ftk, and if not, I didn't even get to have a monster on the field by the time I got burned out of the duel. That moment there is why I said I'd never come back to yugioh and figured that it simply wasn't worth my time anymore. What fun could I have if I couldn't even compete with the only deck I had, let alone the only one I could even afford. I kept that promise for the longest time, but eventually was forced back in as health complications started to, and currently, keep me from doing too many strenuous activities and leave me just about unable to hardly work. It took literally being bedridden before I decided to come back, and when I did, I start hearing people complain about issues I was already familiar with. "Yeah, that happens. Nothing new, sometimes you don't even get a turn" I was prepared for what to expect and mostly stayed away from competetive. As I began building decks, I ran them in master duel to test and understand them more, eventually liking them and making them my mainstay decks irl. There's another on the way, but basically I have the decks built to just have fun. No 18 of the same cards across each deck, no more than 1 handtrap across each really, and plenty of generic traps, spells, and outside monsters to keep it interesting while still fitting with the theme of the deck. Here's the issue though. Being bedridden, I have no one to play with. These decks work great against one another and provide a fun experience, but I can only duel myself. If I want to duel other people, I need to expect competetive players, turns in which I go out immediately, and a meta that is out of control and is still being complained about even by the top players of the game, all the while I'm just looking for someone to duel. If that wasn't enough, price to compete in such an environment is insanely high, and because of my current state, I can't afford to compete in an environment where competetive rules and fun is case aside for decks that are zombies of their archetypes, often times running only 7 or 8 cards from said archetype while the others are handtraps, generic searches, generic draws, and an extra deck that resembles just about every other deck's, aside from maybe the 5 cards they pull out that additionally match the archetype. I'm not unfamiliar with creating zombie decks (mishmached pieces of an archetype that doesn't belong, not actual zombie) but even now, I can't even afford to make a deck that is able to compete with the competetive scene in any way. You notice I'm using afford a lot, and that's one of my main issues. It's not price of entry that's the issue, but the price to interract that is a problem. If you want an affordable handtrap to put in your deck, gamble on overpriced packs. If you need three and can't seem to pull them, spend a good hundred to get them, but that doesn't include the other 12 you need you counteract the negates to the handtrap you just dropped nearly a paycheck's worth on. Then finally, as you start to get the deck together after such a long time of saving and testing, cry on the floor as the deck you planned to run ended up getting hit by the ban list and costed you a good several hundred dollars. (Of course it's best to save to get all at once, but you see what I'm getting at here). The issue is that yugioh is more focused on those who can actually afford to compete while casual is a bit of a rare find. Even now, casual is a vastly different term to modern players as it still involves a deck at least somewhat meta to be played, whether it be meta in a previous era or a modern deck with cards from said meta added in just to hold up and guarantee a win. There is no solid casual definition to yugioh. Casual to people that compete in tournaments could mean edison format. Casual to people that are just joining after a while could mean build a board with fun monsters and a unique gimmick to see how your opponent runs around it. Casual for those who are starting to get into competetive play could be summoning dark magician without tribute. It's difficult to find someone who matches your idea of a fun duel, and as well as that, be able to afford a deck that matches suit. I actually have a melodious deck that I got because of my past experience with my old deck. I loved it when I found a way to get out bloom diva and decided to actually make said deck. I only did it because it was fun and it didn't even have the firepower to match up to any meta deck. Now it's semi-pro related and instead of being worth the $40 I spent for it, it is now at least $90 due to three cards alone. If I waited any longer, I wouldn't have been able to afford, let alone play, one of my favorite decks. I think the reason we see a lot of youtubers getting into yugioh is because they can actually afford it while having plenty of people willing to duel with them in a way they prefer, then to top it off, with yugioh trending, they get more money off the interraction to afford even more and provide more content while yugioh continues to evolve. For joe schmoe, unfortunately, that tends to be lacking and finding both of said things can be vastly more difficult. I don't think yugioh is in a really good spot for new players coming into the scene mainly because of the price for interraction, the constantly evolving scene, and the overly competetive playerbase with no concrete definition for casual. Towards the end of this here, I feel as though I'm rambling and not making much sense, and I'm sure there's so much more I can talk about that makes yugioh so hard to actually enjoy and be apart of. Honestly, I feel that this is too long already and I may have made my point somewhere down the line. TLDR; Card game bad because too expensive and no friends. :(

I want to prefice this by saying that in no way shape or form this message is hate, but somethings have to be said. 1) The ocg and the tcg are separate things. If the tcg stops making a profit the ocg can pull support from the tcg, the fact that the ocg is doing well doesnt actually gurantee anything for the tcg. 2) The Shadow Duelist community event was a master duel event, and while there is a tcg Master duel overlap, again its a different thing. Not only that the shadow duelist event was blasted by a lot of people because quite honestly it was very out of touch. 3) the competitive scene isnt everything about ygo, yes, but its a MASSIVE part of the game, there are thousands and thousand of players that want to play competitively, the same way comp isnt everything casual isnt everything. 4) Attendance in events is going down, which is a sign of a game having a rough patch. Multiple events were having 200-300 players under what was expected before the banlist, and thats a problem. 5) Also saying the tcg doesnt really care about the competitive scene is WILD, considering that every year megatins reprint the best competitive staples, and Rarity Collection 1 and 2 do as well, they clearly know we exist, whether they do a good job of catering to competitive players is a different matter entirely. Again this message is in no way hate, but ygo is having a rough patch rn no matter how you look at it, the competitive scene affects the casual scene just as much as th3 casual scene affects the competitive one, and while i dont really think its gonna die, if the game continues down this path its gonna be in danger to die.

I think what hurts the game the most is Konami doesnt even support formats where playing mlre casually is warranted or the main thing. Look at master duel not mstter what mode you play you run into people using meta decks. I had a simple red eyes ritual deck and bump into a kashtira player in casual mode.

There's a reason why the OCG is separate from the TCG. When people say that YGO is dying, they're referring to the TCG. Kids here in Japan, are still learning to play YGO because of the Rush format. Whilst in the TCG, you barely see young ones play the game. Sure the the TCG wont die anytime soon, but the player base is definitely struggling to get bigger, hence the westerner's belief of it dying.

The problem in Yugioh for me is that you have to be with your circle of friends to find any fun. Moreover, Yugioh does not support alternative formats for casuals and ONLY supports competitive makes it hard to find random people to play with. That is why MTG's Commander format is great.

100% agree, Konami does not care about Competitive play. Honestly, I don't even think it makes a lot of money for them if you just see the marketing. It's soooo focused on children, nostalgic adults, whatever kind of person who'd get suckered by a blister pack on the way out of Walmart. Hell, 7/11s in Japan stock YGO. You don't become a billion dollar game off the back of competitive play. Look to MtG's sudden shift to Universes Beyond to suck people in with -Brand You Recognize-, mostly geared at their casual format. That's what made them worth a billion. For Comp YGO, it's weird. YGO is unkillable by sheer market volume, so even if it vanishes locally, chances are good it'll return because you basically HAVE to stock the Big 3 at your LGS. But the game is definitely fragile. We're down to 1 shop really hosting events in a very large TCG scene. With the current attitude from Konami, I don't think there's really chance it'll come back to the other shops any time soon.

My only local OTS has just announced yesterday that there will be less yugioh locals due to not having enough players. A year ago it was 3 a week. Was 2 a week for a while now and will only be 1 from now on. Meaning in that 1 event every week, everyone will bring their meta decks, which is totally fine of course, but it will result in even less player attendance, because some people just wanna play their rouge decks, which is not fun when you go into a tournament where 6 out of 8 players play snake eyes. My guess is that in a few months they will stop playing yugioh there for good. Might be a local phenomenon, that is only happening in my region, but somehow I believe the same or similar stuff happens at many smaller ots-locations atm.

You can play new games that finally look like they won't croak in a year between flesh and blood, Lorcana, SWU, one piece, grand archive, which ever stuck in your local area. As unique as Yu-Gi-Oh is, it's definitely the one people are most likely to jump ship from out of the big 3. Consistently the lowest satisfaction as a product or meta across the 25 years and now there's ways out and still be in a TCG

"The competitive scene doesn't necessarily reflect how most people play the game" & "I'm not thinking 'Oh Yugioh sucks' I'm thinking 'Fuck this guy for playing like a jackass'" YES!!! THANK YOU!!! You get it!!!! Anecdotal evidence of my own but as someone who first got into the game not too long ago, it really feels like the vocal Yugioh community on Twitter and Reddit (if there is any other Yugioh community out there, especially if it's not like what I'm about to describe, please let me know) is completely focused on the tournament meta and just generally making/playing decks for their W/L ratio only. And then complaining about how unfair said meta optimized decks are to play against. But also complaining about people who play rogue decks or old archetypes the still like, because they're weirdos for not playing the meta and why are they upset at losing all the time it's their fault for not playing the meta. (My experience: I made a post asking for deckbuilding advice for an older rouge deck I find fun on a subreddit meant for newbies, said in my post I was just playing for fun with friends and wasn't really interested in competitive/tournaments that much, and I knew my deck wasn't meta but I didn't care... and the only responses I got were "That deck isn't meta anymore. There are like 2 ED cards that are kinda okay but are still outclassed now and everything else sucks. You should probably play something else buuuut if you reallllly don't care about losing here's my tips" like... lmao???) Okay. So. The Community TM has decided our only two options for this game are "play unfun and/or unfair broken decks" or "put a 'kick me' sign on your back if you're dumb enough to play something else." And then they blame Konami for the game sucking, when it's them who are making it a miserable experience for everyone to play, including themselves. Uh huh. The call is coming from inside the house on this one imo. Anyway rant over, great video and love your channel!! Adore that you mentioned the Olympic guy, hearing about him made my week haha :)

I’ve seen an fb post ranking the most difficult card games and Yugioh is at number 1 with 6 stars while pokemon tcg has like only 1 star and is at the bottom of the list. Well, there are people that will have a hard time learning the game while some learns fast, but still, not a lot of people can easily learn the game. Though there are decks that are easy to play like Dragonmaids. But it’s not just the difficulty, but also the cards themselves since there are a lot of toxic decks that prevents people from playing like a lockdown Kashtira, burn, stun, and all of the other meta decks. I have played yugioh for like 5 years already, but have been playing online for 4 years. I’ve seen toxic players playing the most toxic decks that I could ever imagine. I get angry because it’s also not just how toxic their deck is but because I love the game and it just frustrates and disappoints me to see it in this kind of state. I am not a casual nor a competitive player. I am just in between. I only play decks that aren’t meta and will not go that path unless I am forced to by the game’s state. I only play rouge decks like Earth Machines yet it can still keep up with most meta decks. Though even with such good decks, there will still be these other decks that would either not let you play or forces you to watch someone play solitare then not let you play. I guess if I am forced to move to another card game, maybe I’ll completely move to pokemon tcg since it is more fun and solitaire isn’t a thing there.

It's still early days for the channel, so I don't think a pivot is unreasonable at this stage. I'd watch stuff outside of YGO for sure.

As a Yugioh long-time-duelist that still love the game through all their thick and thin: I think It's better for you to talk about multiple topics outside and stay away from dedicated topics for ONLY Yugioh. It's the Casual Side of Yugioh that makes them amazing, when we're too into the depth, the toxicity, the negativeness by the principle of the game and Community Konami's direction will Always putting you off... even after a few years of enjoying them maybe.. I would Recommend to "Casually" talk about Yugioh when you have the topic, when you want to compare other hobby in life to it, not as dedicated topics for it 🎉 That's when its gold for the game: "When we Truly play Yugioh in our own playground way regardless of the rules... likes we used to as a kid"

I know you don’t what to make 2 channels but it might be a good idea to keep posting Yugioh on this channel and making an experimental channel. It sounds like a lot of work but I’m my experience it’s the best way to go about it. I have 2 channels focused on two different things. One channel about gaining and a commentary channel. My second channel grew even faster than my first because I had a sold idea. Both grew at the same rate. Both are now at 1.2k subs and I don’t think that would have happened if I merged the two ideas into one channel. Honestly our channels are realy realy small so the work is your oyster right now.

Well, I think variety is nice. I feel like the most important thing is for you yourself to have fun, especially when you're still new to content creation. If nothing else, it can at least help you test the waters.

Found you because of the yugioh stuff but I love the chill down-to-earth vibes you've got going on. As a person who struggles to find the time/energy to do ANYTHING creative anymore, I'd definitely advise doing whatever you're most interested in. Make content you want to make, and if people like it they'll stick around, and if they don't then you still got to do something you liked and were proud of :)

I think something important to remember here is that the most fulfilling path is often what most inspires you creatively. As a result, when you follow that path and make the highest possible quality content you can given that the perceived effort required is likely much less as a result, people tend to follow you for you and your content, and not the specific topic that content revolves around. Sure, there's something to be said about "most of my audience is here for X, so I'll get less views if I do Y", but that concept also ignores the fact that a lot of views also come from random people who find you via ~The Algorithm~. So if you make a video about Y, then ~The Algorithm~ will likely serve your video to people who also like Y. And the portion of your audience who is here for you as a creator, not YuGiOh specifically, will make up the rest. This concept is especially true if you build your brand on variety content early, with you at the center. If you make yourself your brand as opposed to the topics in your videos, there will be no "X" for you to be trapped by since your channel covers the entire alphabet. Of course, this might be more difficult as you're no longer riding on "many people like this thing, so this thing will get me views", but I'd imagine the end result of figuring out how to put this philosophy into practice is more rewarding than the alternative. Alright, that's my last brain cell for the week, time to go watch anime now. Hopefully that helped give u some food for thought tho (:

Dude, you can do it. You can make more videos about other stuff, especially digimon. i would love for you to talk about other stuff. Also, can you try to make the streams like longer because when i find them, they've already ended
