Roubo Folding Bookstand - One Piece of Wood
The first time I watched Roy Underhill build one of these Roubo folding book stands, I knew I had to try it. The whole stand is made from one piece of wood. The hinges are carved and then the board is cut straight down the middle to split it open. I've lost count of the number of these book stands I've made over the years, but it's more than 20. I usually make them out of walnut, but for this one I gave Jatoba a try. It was much tougher on my chisels, but the results were gorgeous.

Wow, true craftsmanship! Thanks for sharing
This was so satisfying to watch

Excellent 👌
Mui bonito 👏
Omg... I want one. 😁
instant sub, appreciate the hand tool work. quick question, how critical is the use of the band saw for the rip? I don't have such a machine and would stumble at this part.. a handsaw would involve too much clean up?
j4ck888 I’ve made several of these without a bandsaw. A good rip saw is all you need. It does take some skill to keep the saw on track though. I usually want a thicker board if I’m cutting by hand.
@@ajonestx Thanks, luckily I have a few 30-40mm air dried oak boards. I will give it a try this fall, cheers.
Keep up the good work. Hope to see more in the future, also love the hand work on your Moxon vice.
Austin, I too just watched your I'gram post...about the cherry table you made and that drawer pic. Looked super man! Here I saw how you manage to hold and use your work on your bench. Admirable and different from what I've normally seen - I like it! You do some good work...and I'm a tolls lover too, esp. planes and chisels.
Hi Austin, thanks for sharing. Also loved the choice of music and that is was at a nice level.
Same thing here! I saw that episode years ago, and had a goal of making one of those! On my last day of highschool woodshop, I built a small one - just to have the magical experience of that one piece of wood, folding in half. Such a cool project.
The suprising thing to me is it's not super difficult to do. If you're good at hand work it's a half day project.
Awesome video, seeing your instagram page inspired me to go all hand tools. Being 16 and very new to woodworking your videos have taught me alot. Keep up the good work!
Thanks for watching!
