Sage Grouse Photography Adventure Part 1. My new photography method, why didn't I do this sooner!?
มุมมอง 1.3K28 วันที่ผ่านมา
If there's one thing I've learned over the years as a wildlife and bird photographer, it's that you need to continue to try new things to improve. I've photographed Greater Sage Grouse for years now. It's a species that I'm extremely familiar with, in fact, I've probably spent more time with these magnificent birds than I have most other animals. Each spring, male Sage Grouse put on an incredib...

In this week's video I'm back at it again photographing the Short Eared Owls and Sharp-tailed Grouse. This is an unlikely combination of animals, but a duo that I've found really work well photographing together in...

Wildlife photography has many challenges, and is in my opinion, can be the most difficult type of photography. But it doesn't have to be! So, how do you get closer to wildlife? How do you stay hidden from wildlife? These are some questions that we've touched on before here on this channel and this is a topic that I'm completely obsessed with. This week I'm going show you what gear really works ...

Great footage of the American Avocets. Maybe the Stilts seen hunters in blind before!
They’re so cool! Thanks for sharing this great footage!
This series was so lovely! Really enjoy your Alaska trips!
This Spring I had the opportunity to photograph Great Horned owls and Short eared owls. The Short eared owls were fun to photograph. The horned would fly away while the short eared owls would fly to me. Caught some images of a harrier trying to take a vole from the short eared owl. One image shows a triangle shape with the owl up top and then harrier to the lower left (looking back like a villain) and the vole falling to the lower right. The harrier got the vole in the end. I only had a hand full of days with better lighting because of all the rainy days. When the seo's face is sunny on one side and shadowed on the other, it makes their pupils different sizes in images. I also like to photograph Great Gray owls but seo's are my favorite right now.
Very much enjoyed your Sage grouse series, Jimmy. Thanks so much for making and sharing these. Have a great week now.
Majestic 🤩🤩
❤
This IS Amazing footage . . . Thx 4 sharing !!❤❤
Awesome so lovely vidoe
Owls are magical mysterious creatures. You capture that alchemy in your film.
BEAUTIFUL PHOTOGRAPHY 📸.
Very wise owl 🦉.
❤
Precioso❤❤
🦉✅ i love you owl❤
What amazing footage you got Jimmy, I loved it so much, and your photos are always so beautiful. It's always a joy following your adventures in nature. Take care, my friend.
wow amazing 😍
Absolutely gorgeous!! Owl
Very good Jimmy, It is almost time to start photographing our nesting Kestrals.
You've made the workshop environment quite amazing
Awesome footage. I was able to photograph some short eared owls in Idaho, but nothing as close as this. Also, Hollow Coves, great taste in music as always. Cheers!
Jimmy, I enjoyed both videos in the series. I really need to find a way to get out for grouse season someday. You got some real stunners of the sage grouse display with the backlit breath! I like how you added all the other natural history info about badgers and other critters too. It helps us understand the whole ecosystem a little better. Were the meadowlarks singing at sunset? I always thought that was a morning thing, but I don't spend much time with them being in a more forested area. Really cool to see you are using the full camp setup for the grouse workshop offerings too! Hope spring is treating you well!
a great video Jimmy
Thanks for watching 😊
awesome video
Thank you!
Muy buen video
Thanks so much, I appreciate you watching!
Another excellent video and the footage of the Sage Grouse is outstanding. It was nice to get a tour of your camp setup for your workshops, one day I hope to be able to join you on a workshop. Thanks for sharing and have a great week and I hope your Sage Grouse workshop goes very well for you.
Thank you so much, Keith! I hope you can join me in the future as well. I've still got some others that I'm currently working on, so there will be plenty of opportunities 😁 I always appreciate your support, I hope you're doing well!
я из России , занимаюсь Съемкой тоже птиц !! Спасибо Вам за вдохновение!!!
Thanks so much for watching, I always appreciate it!
Great video! I'm an aviation photographer (sometimes Navy documentary), My friend told me to use case 2 And to keep both of the sliders on locked on, is it good? I got Canon R5 with Sigma 60-600mm. Thanks!
Stunning images and video. Those breath shots maybe the best I have ever seen
Thank you so much Richard! The conditions were absolutely perfect for breath shots, I've never had them so good before!
Namesakes of my boyscout troop, love em
Very nice 😁
Superb images and video of the grouse. Great idea - grouse won't care of smells.
Thank you Ott, I'm so glad the plan worked out! I hope you're doing well and getting out with the camera!
That would work for me but I'd have to leave the blind before the birds got there to void my bladder
Haha 😂, that's what the empty bottle inside is for 😆
Thanks Jimmy. Another of my favorites. Used to see quite a few Sages around Leadore, Idaho. Not so many anymore. Look forward to your next episode.
Thank you very much, Terry! It's sad how much the various populations seem to be declining. Many of the leks I used to observe are now completely silent each spring.
Thanks...still on my bucket list.
Thanks so much for watching! I've got dates for next year listed on my website if you're still interested 😁
Great idea, I'm surprised you haven't done that all along!
I know right, what was I thinking 🤦🏼♂️
Muy profesional
Thanks so much!
Great idea Jimmy. Now you just need to set it up on a floating platform and you can sleep with the ducks. Might need a little anchor for that. An old Canon body might do the trick.😂
😂😂 you know the best part, I've actually considered doing that, minis the old Canon body 😆
Great video Jimmy, your new method is very successful and looks like a lot of fun. Some great footage of a really beautiful bird. You have also become quite a seamstress, great job on the blind. Have a good week and I am looking forward to part 2.
Thanks a bunch Keith! Who knows, maybe I should drop the photography and start a career as a tailor or something 😂 Thanks for the support!
Very well done! These birds are just awesome and one of favs
They really are outstanding, already counting down the months until next year!
Well done. Appreciate your ingenuity.
Thank you very much, sure appreciate it!
Beautiful
Thank you!
Omg a bear saved a fish from drowning! That is amazing 🥲
🤣 They're such caring animals, I saw him save quite a few fish that day!
@@JimmyBreitenstein Really?! That’s amazing!
Woah good footage
Thanks so much!
Ive been watching 3 great horned owlettes too. Theyve all fledged so im going to have to look around 2 find them. Amazing raptors arent they?
That's awesome, good for you! They are magnificent, I hope you can find them again.
I love kit foxes so muchhh 😭 they’re adorable 🥰
I can't get enough of them!
@@JimmyBreitenstein really? I couldn’t tell 😭
Nice! After a tip on spoonbills I spent several weeks chasing them here in AR last summer. I finally got pictures of them two different times in late summer. They’re beautiful birds for sure! Thanks for sharing!!
That's awesome, I'm glad you got some! They really are neat birds, I'm excited to get back out with them!
❤
This is awesome! I have a Western Screech in a tree cavity video showing how it's camouflage doing the same thing. Greg
That's awesome! I've always been so impressed with how well Owls are able to blend in with their surroundings. It really makes me wonder how many I pass right by without noticing.
Beautifull owl!
They sure are!
Glad you explained the purple background on the short eared shot being flowers. They are only winter birds here so its usually the sandy brown of marshes or winter fields, unless I get some place with dark mountains in the background. I personally like the way you go about most of your videos these days, taking us along on the adventure giving a sense of place and some tidbits on the different species and your thinking behind your photography. Keep it up and hope you can make time to get back out to this spot.
Thanks a lot John, always appreciate your support. I spent so much time trying to get the Owls with that purple background, so I was thrilled when it actually happened!
