I have a 2018 WRX that had a squeak around the seatbelt buckle area for a couple of years. I learned about the wave washer technician bulletin a couple of weeks ago and ordered the redesigned wave washer that goes between the post and the seatbelt buckle arm. I was pretty skeptical because the squeak sounded bigger than just one little washer. After removing the seat and the seatbelt buckle arm I found that it already had the new washer 🙄. However, it didn’t have any lubricant and it was pretty obvious where it was squeaking because the washer was burnished in a couple of spots. I bought it used so I don’t know who did the replacement. So I don’t know if the grease wore away or if it never had any. I installed a new wave washer and applied a generous amount of lithium grease everywhere except for the threads on post. So far it seems to have done the trick. 🤞🏼

I used to have the same problem. I ended up putting a LTE filter/5G and an FM trap. It helps solve my problem.

Same issue with a Subaru XV from 2019, nearly 80.000 km . Any clue where to apply WD40 or similar ?

Had the same issue two years after purchasing it brand new, replaced IW after pushing a lot dealer and Subaru subsidiary in Spain, and, two years after, same issue again (OOW, currently expecting quotation from service company). Unit sold in Spain (not SOA). Havent seen it reported in EU forums tho. I guess components are the same as the units assembled in Japan factory. It starts as a crack and some weeks later it becomes a squeak as in the video, but at first it sounds more like a loose welding.

It is a battery voltage issue. For a temporary solution either drive it around for five minutes (will keep beeping but will ultimately stop and reset) or disconnect the battery and reconnect it. For a permanent solution, replace the battery.

Ran into the same issue with my fiances 22 outback. Resetting didn't work, would NOT unlatch at all. Took it to the dealership, and they replaced the power tail gate motor (DTC B2507 PRG motor circuit open). The car only has 6k miles, and rarely driven. I hope I do not have to replaced this in a few years.

You ever figure out the issue @matthew? I have the SAME issue with my car @ 6k. lol. What a POS this car is. Taking it to the dealership in two days.

My 2018 outback 3.6 squeaks the same. Anytime I hit a bump it's the "same-old-song". 😅😢

My 2017 forester does this squeak too. I think it has to do with the driver side seat belt buckle. I feel it kind of rubs the Center console for some reason and makes the squeaking noise.

I’m also having the same issue. Mine began 1st month of purchase… were you able to fix it?

Mine was lemon lawed because of it. I loved it other than that.

Have you tried opening it manually from the inside? And I mean literally you climbing to the trunk and removing the plastic cap covering the mechanism of the actuator and pulling the knob to the right so it will completely release the partial lock.

What was the end result here? I'm having almost exact same similar issues, except my wouldn't close all the way and so the car was registering the tailgate as open and draining the battery. I played around with the latch (by holding down the bottom on the back for +5sec). That seemed to trick the computer into thinking the back gate was closed, but its not latching and locking. Also looked at a bunch of forums. Everyone said unplug battery. Tried that before missing with the latch. I guess now I should??? Fuckin Subaru

2020 OB premium. Purchased with 80 miles. now has 5800 and I had a rear noise so got the right pillar B replaced. Now I have the seat squeaking noise 3-2 times a week from the rear right side. Heading to the dealer tomorrow TBD.

I had almost the exact same problem. I brought my 2018 Outback in to have the bottom seat frame replaced 8 months after purchasing the car. Today, Nov 12, 2020 I had to repeat the process The dealer told me it is a known design defect. So why hasn't Subaru fixed this design defect?
