I am currently waiting for my youngest daughter to finish what we call college (she is due to be 18 in February) and then she will probably go on to University. My marriage of 22 years has been toxic for a long time, I stayed to make sure the kids had a stable home. My wife can be normal at times but for the most part the smallest things send her into a frenzy, screaming and shouting like the house is on fire normally ensues. Generally I am used as a verbal punch bag and told quite often that I am useless, live in my own world and don't drive the family forward (even though she takes over in a controlling manner what you might be doing). There's a general lack of respect towards me or ideas that I have, but the same ideas are respected from male family members. I have decided once my daughter has finished college in about 5 months that I am going to end the marriage. I am currently looking into my legal rights in the UK.

Good news is, I will never, ever marry again..! Learned the VERY hard lesson the first time around. Was not worth all the GREAT effort, it just was not...

i remember when mom and dad divorced, mom was hellbent on slandering dad and trying to keep us from seeing him because “yOuR fAtHeRs fUlL oF sAtaN”, she also dragged us to court on multiple occasions and would isolate and interrogate me when i didn’t say the things she wanted to the judge. shes better now that shes had consequences to think about her actions but ill never forget.

the 2 reasons i would divorce are in the bible, cheating and abandonment. for cheating regardless if its salvageable or not i don’t think i could live with myself and in the name of upholding standards i would divorce because if i can do anything about it i don’t want a world where my kids or their kids would have to deal with this. for abandonment while thats open to interpretation i see both physical and emotional abandonment as valid, physical is self explanatory, but emotional to me means unwilling to work on the marriage, emotionally checked out, abusive or manipulative behavior, i wouldn’t divorce until i feel i did the best i could, or if i determine shes a danger to me, the kids, or herself.

I went through something very similar to the example he gave. If a man isnt able to afford a lawyer for 10k ish, the woman will get everything, along with kids. Its been proven shes been in several affairs, but none of that matters. Only thing that matters is the man must pay up. Strange how a woman doesnt need to pay or even have a lawyer present, but collects the win every time.

Why does a man need to pay and prove that he is invoved with his children..? This situation is almost exact to what my brother went through. Paid over 5k for a lawyer, had to gather up info/proof from everyone he knew that he was involved in his childs life. In the end he still has to pay child support, only has 49%custody/not priary, and typically can only see his sin when she says its ok. Hes filed 5 complaints on her for withholding him from seeing his son, but since shes a woman its ok and child support office does nothing. I know of only one man that has primary care of his children, only because the mother is "unfit" only after many many calls of abuse and neglect. It amazes me how a mother can put a child through so much and nothing is said or dine, but a child can get ripped away from the father so easily.

As a divorced man with all these signs and more while married in the army the marriage broke down no matter what I did or suggested to make it work and work on it!
