Zenichi Works is where I will be uploading videos of my various projects.
The Playa Crawler Construction
This video shows the design and build process of The Playa Crawler as well as a few set backs and redesigns that were needed to get it to a working state.
The Playa Crawler is what's considered a "mutant vehicle" or "art car" and is a piece of kinetic art. I made it to be used as my own personal vehicle to get around at Burning Man and i wanted something interesting and unique so I created a chair that walks with the legs. the leg linkage was invented by Theo Jansen, a Dutch artist who creates this massive walking sculptures called Strandbeest that walk along the beach being pushed by the wind. I designed the Playa Crawler with the Dieselpunk aesthetic in mind which is why the body has lightening holes much like you'd see on the interior of an airplane wing.
To be clear this isn't any form of wheelchair alternative as wheels are, in fact, pretty hard to beat in terms of efficiency and flexibility on differing terrain.
Make sure to turn on captions to read descriptions of the clips and photos you're seeing.

Can it go uphill or downhill?
That thing definitely weights a ton.
Just need to make it auto gps pop in some boomers, with bottle whiskey, cooler of beer, and fold the chair back, let a 2 hour trip down street to the grocery store begin. 😅
8:28 *The Fremen will go after him, he's stealing the Spice*
Gud for the museum
''Fron the moment i realized the weakness of my flesh..."
If this didn't get you laid at burning man..........I guess bring drugs and the creepy crawler chair. Guaranteed.
5 thousand hours working on the chair. 0 minutes working on a costume.
lf l ever get into wheelchair, l'll get this one.
I don't believe for a second you designed this in SketchUp say sike right now
Wow! What an opportunity for construction! Especially in handicap bathroom stalls! The electricians will be busy too upgrading the cross walk signs! This would be a perfect meat grinder!
Hey, a strandbeest , call Theo Jansen !! ,
it would be cool if you could make it 30 inches wide of less
Best satisfying flex
Crossout type shit
You could integrate springs into the legs that push the legs down. this would decrease the peak stress on both the legs and the motors and should increase performance.
Why? Isn't the whole point of this mechanism is that the legs are moving in a straight line. I.e. not pushing up. So adding springs would not do much?
I need it ...

You know every good idea seems like a good idea until you get into where in tear of what’s really going on I love to see this kind of stuff but not ready yet bro
The guy on it looks like an idiot loser 😂
Lemmie just put some jizz on this drill real quick
you sir are a fucking genius
is this going to be an commercial product, and if so how much would it cost?
Leg movement reminds me a deers leg movement seen those animals all the time
like a crab kinda - you know what i mean
The only issue I see is the seat more be to far back. Would love to see how it does on inclines.
bro built a contraption
Very cool! Thanks for sharing this with us.
beautiful design
I find you Theo copycat. what Americans are!
Hi! I try to make sure I always let people know that I was inspired by Theo and his Strandbeest creations. I actually met him once and showed him the initial designs before i even made it and he gave me some advice for how to make my own Strandbeest type creation. I also got his blessing when i sent him images and video of when i completed it. Hope that puts your mind at ease!
Pregunto: y ese carromato para que sirve? Uf que cosa mas inutil.
Cadogan West?)
Es lo más inútil que ví.. pero está bueno..
Perfect for the waiting line at the DMV!
excellent work
What sort of gradient can it handle?
Not sure how much but it can go uphill so long as the grade increase is smooth and gradual. There are wheels at the tips of each foot but they don't spin very freely and are just there to make sure the legs don't catch and scrape on the ground.
This reminds me a bit of the 1960s American TV show called, "The Wild, Wild West".
Same works here 10 years earlier, inspired by dutch artist Theo Jansen, very impressive ! th-cam.com/video/JqEasWKcJYY/w-d-xo.html
Yup! I credit him in the description. I love Theo Jansens work
This man is preparing for war
He made a wheelchair for palps
Its called a strandbeest mechanism amd its basically just simple shapes that have a complex movement. Theirs multiple variations which is why he's able to turn it around instead of it going one way
I think it's generally called the Jansen Linkage but otherwise you're right :)
*steampunk intensifies*
I need to find someone who can help me make cool stuff.
I can't tell you how cool that is.
Great work
This man went to the renaissance era, and gave them a crankshaft out of what was left of the engine of his dad's beat up Jeep and said,"This is one of many parts of a machine that we have in the future. This machine is used for travel and can turn around 360 degrees, climb and go around rough terrain and do so in a way that keeps the driver up steadily to keep them comfortable even when they reach a violent gap in the path ahead. Although it contains many moving mechanical parts that work together and perfectly timed to do all of these things. This is the part that times everything by spinning constantly moving the parts that make it move and keeps them synced up perfectly so they keep the machine's weight balanced, preventing it from shaking." and then Da Vinci responded,"like this?" and then this man, was like,"yeah... spot on."
Am I the only one thinking that what if your hands get caught inside 👀
This will be magic for crippled from farming family In India.
Thank you
Can you make a battlebot out of it.
