Everlast Lightning MTS 275 MIG Wire Feed Issues?

Fabricating some firewood log holders and suffered a wire feed issue. The wire feed motor seemed to stop, skip and stutter as I pulled the trigger on the MIG gun. Talked to Everlast and followed their testing advice. Here's what happened.

My son designed this desk and asked me to build it. I took most of the video in the wrong format, but decided to stick with it through the end. The frame is steel. The top and shelves are Black Walnut. This video documents the process of the build. If you are interested in any of the products, or have a question about what I did, drop a comment and I'll answer!
Everlast Lightning MTS 275 What's In the Box
มุมมอง 6K4 ปีที่แล้ว
I recently purchased a new Everlast Lightning MTS 275. I had some questions about what came with the welder, water cooler and cart and what did not. This short video will walk you through what you get and do not get from Everlast. I made three purchases to complete the initial build, the welder, water cooler and welding cart. I did not mention stick electrodes in this video. Maybe next time. I ...

how do you like the welder? thinking about getting this for my first welder ever. i was gonna get a primeweld tig225x before i chose this one and the price difference is crazy but at the same time this has all the functions that i’d wanna do such as HF tig and mig and stick whenever i’ll need to do it. i didn’t wanna be limited to just tig since idk how to weld at all and i’d wanna be able to do different types of welding for different projects. but i read on their website this comes with a water cooled tig torch. is that true? and is it worth it to get the extra water cooler instead of running an air cooled torch?

If you'll be TIG more than 200 Amps, then you need the water cooled, otherwise you don't. Just get an air cooled torch with your order or like $100 extra. Then you have two options. You won't have to buy the water cooler initially.

I have a everlast tig that had a similiar problem also diagnosed over the phone with everlast support. Fix was to disconnect a electrical wire then re-connect the wire. This was the fix. Apparently wire connectors can sometimes need to be re-seated. I am very happy with my everlast as this was the only problem I ever had and it was when the machine was new.

Thanks for posting this video! I have had the MTS 225 for just over a year and it's having the same problem with the trigger but I'm also having other issues with the welder. I bought a $140.00 gas-less mig welder from Harbor Freight that works really well. Makes me wonder if I should have bought budget Mig, Tig and Stick welders in the first place. I see that you are a guitar player, Me too. do you have any video's on youtube?

had a similar problem on my 251mts, the motor would stop intermittently for like a millisecond only while welding and I finally found the 2 contact pins on the qwik-connect coupling were covered in dust from an old roll of hardwire I ran through the machine.

Hey great job troubleshooting the mig not feeding. I was wondering if you'd recommend the lighting mts 275. I ask as I am looking to buy a welder to use at home, and to hopefully start up a small shop at home with. I keep going between the mts225 and the mts275, and I'm not sure which rout to go. I figure if I go with the mts275 I won't have to upgrade later and I can always add cooler later as well if I land bigger jobs. What's your opinion is the 275 worth the extra $4-500CAD? Any help would be appreciated. I'm a welder fabricator building aluminum boats so the AC Tig feature really appeals to me! Thanks!

Good that you figured it out. Bad contacts happen. Shouldn't, but does happen. To have a spare mig torch isn't a bad idea. Swapping the torch rules out the 50% of the problem. They aren't very expensive 😉

@@coveredjmstudio2306 It looks like a case of contact wetting or a poor switch design. I guess I'm not suppressed they are asking their customers to debug their machines. Microsoft has been doing this for years :). Switch design is not simple or obvious but buying switches without understanding how its going to be used will increase the probability of reliability issues. As I'm in the market for a welder update, I need to consider reliability as well as capability as well as the biz model. Everlast is one of the few factory direct companies so they do not need to support the "channel". Miller does hence there cost is higher all things being equal.

If it is the same torch as in the video, I think you need the cooler. If I read the instructions correctly, you could damage the tig torch even at very low amps running it without the cooling water. Double check the torch. Someone else commented that the kit now comes with an air cooled torch.

@@chris18228 Definitely check all information before you buy any high tech product these days, especially from small and/or startup vendors--they tend to make lots of adjustments (not always a bad thing). Also, most of the discussion here was 2 years ago. The Everlast site has a fair number of typographical and grammatical errors, even factual ones (they got the prices wrong on their competitors' products in a comparison chart, lower than they really are, which hurts EL). Some of the text appears to have been written by someone who does not know English as their first language. I do like their very direct style of communicating, especially in the owner manual. I'm in the process of comparing the 275 against the Miller 220 and the Lincoln MIG/TIG pair (both brands have rebates now, but, especially the Miller, are pricier than the EL. I like the DIY attitude of EL, being just fine with working to diagnose and swap parts if needed. Don't ask ESAB to do that with you; Right to Repair is a dirty word to some vendors....

Thanks for the video. Just a couple comments for constructive criticism - your audio level is very low. It would help to use a lapel/lavalier style mic. The picture being the narrow vertical bar is also really bad. It would be a lot better to shoot video with a camera that can fill the whole screen. Good info in the video, just the gear to make it could be a whole lot better for a better viewing experience.
